I know this is VERY interesting but it really did happen and the way is on once agin just when you thought the Blu ray had the win. And Dreamworks/Paramount dropped Blu ray i woould be afraid be VERY afraid.

I personally do not care who wins, I just want it over with (and im just many of you agree with that logic.), then again I own a Ps3, and not a 360 hd attachment so to Blu ray! (things NEVER seem to go my way L)

Its System Wars, and Sony made Blu-ray relevant to System Wars when they dumped it in the PS3. At least thats the way I see it. PS3 games ship on Blu-ray after all.

Not true, PS3 would have been vastly cheaper if they hadn't thrown in Blu-ray and might be nipping at the heals of 360 sales by now. Actually, come to think of it, if it weren't for Blu-ray, PS3 would have shipped much sooner as was originally intended, and 360 would have been pretty much DOA.

correction this is a sysemts war, and blu-ray/hd-dvd is part of the 360 and ps3 also the pc, so it can be in here. tho if they weren't part of thos eplatforms...this would belong in format wars.

It is real, Blu-Ray is officially dead in the largest, growing economy on the planet.

http://www.cnw.ca/fr/releases/archive/September2007/07/c6367.html

http://www.vnunet.com/vnunet/news/2198290/china-develops-definition-dvd

http://www.videobusiness.com/article/CA6476766.html

If you don't read the articles, basically China made their own codec, CH-DVD that is based off HD-DVD and is fully compatible both ways. China just does their own thing because they don't want to be 100% under the influence of Western Standards.

On a side note, HD-DVD also released a standard for a 51 Gb HD-DVD, so Blu-Ray also lost its "storage" edge all of the cows have been raving about. The only thing I haven't researched is if this new disc is fully compatible with all HD players. We shall see.

today announced CH-DVD (China High Definition DVD)(a), a
new generation high definition DVD format developed in collaboration with
research institutes and manufacturing enterprises at home and abroad. The
physical format of CH-DVD includes Chinese-owned intellectual property, and is
based on HD DVD

Not HD DVD but based on it, what a bad idea. And since when can the government pick which format the country uses? RIGHT! Moving on!

It's not HD-DVD, it's CH-DVD.

Dubbed CH-DVD (China High Definition DVD), the new high-def DVD has been developed by the Optical Memory National Engineering Research Center (OMNERC), a laboratory inside the Tsinghua University, in collaboration with other research institutes and manufacturing enterprises at home and abroad.

The relationship between Toshiba's HD DVD and the CH-DVD is very close, since the latter is designed based on the HD DVD specifications, but also includes Chinese intellectual property. CHDA will play a leadership role in the promotion of CH-DVD, and will make a big push to launch CH-DVD player into the Chinese market in 2008.

The CH-DVD boasts with advanced copy-protection features (piracy being one of China's greatest plagues), which should effectively prevent the spreading of pirated discs.

HD DVD and CH DVD are compatible, which means HD DVD players (with additional software) can read CH DVD, and vice versa.

Older HD-DVD players are not guarantee to play there new 51GB discs, so CH-DVD are not guaranteed to play in HD-DVD players.

Aim foot...

I'm more interested on what blurray means for gaming rather than movies. Swapping discs is not annoying for the player in any significant way, but I think it's limiting for devs. It's up to sony to prove it, or maybe a close friend of sony's like square-enix.

You don't know what PAL means or what it effects. PAL is a TV resolution format, it has sqwat to do with DVD or Blu Ray. And FYI, France doesn't go with PAL.

Not even finished. Now stop flamebaiting people ok? And this hasn't nothing to do with hermits but PS3 owners so..LATER DUDE!

No one is flamebaiting but you, as you are the one coming up with the unbacked up comments. What I was saying is the larger HD DVD really will have no impact on gaming in my opinion. You are just showing your wanton post aggresion here against anyone who disagrees slightly.

That thing isn't finished yet and blu ray has an effect as it's used in gaming and HD DVD isn't so your 51 gig thing means nothing and Blu Ray as a gaming format is fine. I suspect Blu Ray will be in Sony comps soon! And that post and your sexual fanatsy comment was flamebait.

Haha, I would be saddened in all of humanity if this was actually the truth.

Thats one company and Sony does BD only so it is mute! BD has more hollywood support and china backs linux and windows ain't dead.

today announced CH-DVD (China High Definition DVD)(a), a
new generation high definition DVD format developed in collaboration with
research institutes and manufacturing enterprises at home and abroad. The
physical format of CH-DVD includes Chinese-owned intellectual property, and is
based on HD DVD

Not HD DVD but based on it, what a bad idea. And since when can the government pick which format the country uses? RIGHT! Moving on!

since it is a communist dictatorship......

I think that pretty much means HD-DVD wins by default. Which is funny because i thought the PS3 meant blu-ray would win by default.

Go China.
