Thats one company and Sony does BD only so it is mute! BD has more hollywood support and china backs linux and windows ain't dead.

Unholy_Smite

We'll see what happens with Blu-Ray but China doesn't back Linux, they more used the threat of it as a bargaining chip. Oh well, at least more OEMs are going Linux and ATI cards are getting good Linux drivers (finally).

I think that pretty much means HD-DVD wins by default. Which is funny because i thought the PS3 meant blu-ray would win by default.

Go China.

history buff are we? China is moving away at rapid pace from that.

Unholy_Smite

No it isn't. in 1979 China opened up to foreign investment but the government still has an iron grip on the country. 70 million people work for the Chinese government, thats 1 in 20 people of the entire country.

i followed your *cough* to a playstation 3 wikipedia page. thanks, but last timei checked the system wars rules blu ray has nothing to do with who wins.

Corvin

Not true, PS3 would have been vastly cheaper if they hadn't thrown in Blu-ray and might be nipping at the heals of 360 sales by now. Actually, come to think of it, if it weren't for Blu-ray, PS3 would have shipped much sooner as was originally intended, and 360 would have been pretty much DOA.

would stomp the 360 without blueray. Buts that boring i like the race how it is right now. I like to see the ps3 struggle and fight for the thrown.

PS3 is fine and this won't effect them at all. The PS3 isn't even sold in China I think.

Learn the difference between fascism and communism?

Bad terms with world consumers? China is the only thing holding back inflation in the states.

China is also the 4th biggest economy in the world and the fastest growing one. It is also the most populated country in the world. Its economy doubles in size every 8 years, China makes a big difference.

In all other countries blu-ray and HD-DVD will be on fair terms but in China HD-DVD has won already and it will tip the balance.

This is dumb. Blu Ray outsells HD DVD in every region in the world by double or more and people think that a Country whose movies are mostly bootlegs are gonna help HD DVD win. LOL please. Here are some good examples of blu ray domination and Paramount and Universals lack of influence...

"New data from Home Media Research shows that Blu-ray is continuing to lead in high definition media sales. As of August 5th, the top 10 best selling high definition movies are all available on Blu-ray, and half of those exclusive to the format. Warner Brother's '300' leads the pack, followed by 'The Departed', 'Casino Royale', 'Planet Earth', and 'Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest'.
Noticeably absent from the list is Universal who did not have a title which sold enough copies to break into the top 20. Paramount made it to 17th with their release of 'Babel', but if there wasn't a Blu-ray version of the title, it would have fallen short making the list"

http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=459

"Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced that Blu-ray disc sales from the company have eclipsed 250,000 units in Europe and are nearing the 1,000,000 mark in the US. In Europe, similar to the US, Blu-ray is outselling HD DVD by a rate of 2:1 and continues to be the dominate high definition format."

http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=455

So lets see Blu ray outsells HD DVD all over the world and HD DVD has a cousin, CH-DVD in China and people think this is gonna save HD DVD how???

im pretty sure you were just saying that they are getting away from that at a "rapid pace". anyway, fascism and communism dont really mix; ala the soviet unions coalition against the nazi-party, and the nazi party's anti-communist movements.

1. WTF man? Hes right, China is a communist government, not fascist.

2. We are far too dependent upon chinese manufacturing, don't know whether hes accurate or not.

3. You have a point, but the more important thing is manufacturing here, China has it.

4. Where did that they lie come from? Although there has been some speculation that China will cease growing as rapidly (it will have to happen eventually) it hasn't happened yet.

china is the largest exporter in the world, to think they all poor is ignorance

namafela

But the US imports more from Canada actually than it does China (#2). Two thirds of the country is still rural and if you think wealth allocation is poor in the US take a look at China sometime.

You have no idea what the difference between fascism and communism is do you? Fascism is an authoritarian political ideology (generally tied to a mass movement) that considers individual and other societal interests subordinate to the needs of the state, and seeks to forge a type of national unity, usually based on, but not limited to, ethnic, cultural, or racial attributes. Various scholars attribute different characteristics to fascism, but the following elements are usually seen as its integral parts: nationalism, authoritarianism, statism, militarism, totalitarianism,

anti-communism

, collectivism, corporatism, populism, and opposition to economic and political liberalism. Second, China is an up and coming economic power. There are quite a few well off people there, especially in Hong Kong. But somehow I doubt there's a point arguing with you as you already have decided you're right no matter what the facts may be.

Wrong, CH-DVD won in China and also China is the leading supplier of Bootleg movies. They do not buy copyrighted products but bootleg it which is why the U.S. is cracking down on all the bootlegs they are bringing to the U.S.

Blu ray and HD DVD are not on fair terms all over the world, blu ray is outselling it by double and in China they have their own version for the very few that actually to buy bootlegs.

Guarantee you right now that won't work, it never does and never will unless (and this is a maybe) they figure out some kind of on-the-fly PGP encryption scheme. The more important aspect here is manufacturing resources.

1. Can't beat you there? You called China fascist when it is not, it is communist. And you continue as if there are no differences between the two ideologies.

2. You are obviously ignorant to economics. With the big debt the USA has right now, thanks to the Iraq war, cheap Chinese imports are the only thing holding back prices. I guarentee 90% of the stuff around you right now was made in China.

3. China has a growing middle-class.

4. China is far from poor, its the 4th richest country on the planet.

1. Check it's policies, it is fascist.

2. LMAO! Only my TV remote was made in China, the rest is either India or Japan. FAIL!

3. Point?

4. Its GDP per capita is under 8k....I don't see anything that would claim they are richer than Canada or France. Size isn't the sole indicator of how rich a nation is.

Yea yet DVD is still alive and strong which means any movie on CH-DVD can be bought for like 75 cents on bootleg DVD. So tell me, how are they gonna convince a country who makes a living off of selling cheap Bootlegs to go with this format. They are not, China can't even crack down and stop the current booblegging.

I think that pretty much means HD-DVD wins by default. Which is funny because i thought the PS3 meant blu-ray would win by default.

Go China.

Unholy_Smite

They win because 1 poor country with a facsit government on bad terms with world consumers backs it? RIIIIIIGHT!

1. You can't beat me there so don't argue.

2. Wow...just wow. Not much to say there but

3. Size means nothing dude! Of course it's lage with 1.3 billion people, income is more important.

4. China is still poor and who knows how long it will sustain growth. It is suspected they lie anyway.

Size isn't the sole indicator of how rich a nation is.

rofl what is the name of the political party in the PRC?

hmmmm?

hmmm???

hmmmmmmmm??????????????

THE COMMUNIST PARTY OF CHINA!!!!!!1!1!!!1one

First off, did you really just call a communist government fascist? Just.....wow. Second, China has over 1 billion people. That's a heck of a market there and is why this is such a big deal.

Did you just claim it isn't? Just wow, just wow.

1 billion poor people, doesn't mean much.

And the facts support me. China is very Fascist nation in it's policies. Communism at best is a economic policy. I highlighted some things that china is, instead of going based on wiki definitions look at what China is really doing. Then you will see your epic fail.

My last point and bottom line...

Blu Ray outells HD DVD in every country that offers both and is available in more contries

Blu Ray has more movie releases

China is a bootleg capital, not a country that will influence any copyrighted format to success

You can ignore these facts all you want but overall nothing is gonna kill Blu Ray until HD DVD can beat its sales in Continents like NA and Europe where they buy copyrighted movies and not China that floods ebay with bootleg boxsets of Smallville (yea I got burned once) movies.

1. It is communist, this is universally accepted fact.

2. regardless of anecdotal evidence China is the largest exporter to the USA. In 2004 there was a trade balance of 175 billion dollars in favour of China between the USA and China.

3. My point is there are a growing number of Chinese citizens who have the income you put so much importance on.

4. Just under 8k times 1.3 billion. China is richer than Canada and France. It goes like this: 1. USA, 2. Japan, 3. Germany, 4. China

You can always get a dual-format player. They are becoming more and more popular, and that also means lower prices.

When they hit $299 they will be a really good option.

how so? ppl in china only buy pirated movies, how can any company profit with both BD or HD-DVD there?

If you read the artical you would know that is the whole point of the codec, its supposed to prevent piracy.

You are thinking too short term if you ask me. Right now yeah the average Chinese person doesn't much care about DVD let alone any high def format.

I think this is being enforced now so that those who can afford HD won't be able to buy bootlegs, it may be slightly optimistic but if the codec does have good copy protection then the amount of bootlegs should decrease dramatically. Of course this only applies to HD and not SD but when prices come down and income goes up the average citizen will want HD and shouldn't be able to get bootlegs.

Simply being nationalistic and authoritarian isn't enough to define it as fascist, as communism is both of those as well. I'm not going to take the time to explain the two systems of government for you but needless to say the Chinese government calls itself communist and the rest of the world doesnt see fit to argue with it.

Yes only to the USA, it has a negative trade balance with the rest of the world but because it makes so much money off the USA it doesnt matter.

You told me the average income. Just under 8k GDP... unless you're telling me you didn't know what GDP was when you posted that stat

*sigh* Here you go http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_GDP_%28nominal%29

You are right, size does not make them rich but the combination of their size and average wealth makes them the 4th richest country in the world.

Yes that is quite epic self ownage on your part. Especially when you go screaming self ownage.

I am fully aware GPD per capita is the GDP for each individual person. Which is exactly why I told you that you had already given me the answer for their average income. Why ask their average income when you have already told me the GDP per capita? Seems a bit foolish to me ;).
