The Fifth Element to be re-released in HD!

Finally!  Maybe now The Fifth Element can take back the crown of best picture quality it once had on DVD.  Thank you HD-DVD =)

Oh wells,  i thought it was bigger news that a Sony movie that was heralded as the best transfer on DVD is now coming to HD-DVD.

Bluray and MPEG2 couldn't cut it i guess.

That's weird. The fifth elment was made by Columbia which was owned by Sony..Frozen_In_Ice

THE FIFTH ELEMENT was a negative pickup by Sony Pictures for U.S./Canada distribution...they did not produce the film (Luc Besson's production company raised the financing). So in different territories, you'll see different distributors. That's why region-free HD DVD has a global advantage over region-coded BD content. HD DVD owners can import product from anywhere and play it.

 It was a bad transfer,  the original print was dirty, and thats why it looks like ass on bluray.  It's not Blurays fault i know,  but at least they wont be using that same dirty print for the HD-DVD version.

And another thing,  not that it will make that big of a difference,  but the BD version used MPEG2,  the HD-DVD version will use VC1
