[QUOTE="rykaziel"][QUOTE="ithilgore2006"][QUOTE="rykaziel"]I dont get why the video is in HD. The game isn't even in HD, so why should it matter whether the video is HD or not. Im confuzzled.
EDIT: Are Sheep serious? I know it is Mario, but I'm not really sure what Mario's appeal is anymore. Like with the Zelda franchise, Nintendo can't really seem to get out of it's own way and start taking their franchises more seriously. The first few minutes of Zelda have you herding goats, and the first few minutes of SMG has you chasing around rabbits, then molesting them (seriously, watch Mario's arm and the rabbit's reaction). To be honest, SMG looks like a poor platformer, and Portal seems to be much better and much more fun.

HD is the quality and size of the video in GT's terms. Not the output. Right, what would taking things "seriously" mean? I don't recall any other Zelda game with you herding goats at the start, nor any Mario game with your catching the rabbits during the tutorial. Does having animals at the start of a game mean the developer isn't taking it seriously? And what are you basing the "poor" platformer assumption on?
It's more along the line of old heroes doing mundane tasks. It's like having an elite commando, who has proven himself capable of amazing feats of heroism, relegated to things like babysitting a poodle. It's stupid and doesn't have a point in the overall scheme of the game.
And I'm basing the poor platforming assumption on what I've seen so far of videos and what I have read. You just jump around. Haven't seen how the Wiimote makes the gameplay any better either. IMO, Portal looks remarkably fresh and innovative, as does LBP. Mario's gameplay looks dated. And "gravity" as a complex and amazing gameplay mechanism is a joke.
TP made sense, a lot of sense. At the beginning of that, Link was a farmboy, I'm sure such mundane tasks as herding goats would have been a regular task in his schedule. And Mario, well, the rabbit catching is likely a throwbaack to to SM64. As for it not looking like good platforming, well I can't argue that, it's your opinion, I think it looks to be a superb game. Portal, yes that's certainly looking great too. I don't think LBP is nearly as innovative as some people claim, not that I think it'll be bad, I think it looks like great fun, but it's a standard enough level editor, but with a huge amount of options. More of an evolution I would call it ten an innovation. Real innovation is just about impossible to find thes days, on any console.
I see your point, and in the end, it's really a matter of choice. My tastes in games have changed. I'll always remember my times with Mario and Co, and I thank and credit Nintendo for getting me into gaming in the first place, but my tastes have changed. Mario, Zelda, those old characters, they really just don't appeal to me anymore. I know people will love this game, but nostalgia can only take me so far these days.
