OK. Let's get a little game going. Posters (anybody who wants to contribute) will post what they consider a flawless game and the other posters will find flaws about it. That way we will see which game seems to have the least flaws by consensus. At some point, perhaps when the thread has reached maybe ten pages or so (or maybe longer, depends on the thread activity), I will tally up the results and crown the FLAWLESS GAME.

Please keep the criticism valid. Stupid criticisms will only serve to make the tallying process murky. Also, if you see a flaw that you agree or disagree with it, please make it known. It would also help to clearly indicate which game you are referring to. Otherwise things can getting confusing.

I'll start. The most flawless game I can think of is The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

Have at it. 8)

The only game that I can truly say I think is close to being flawless in my opinion.

Some bosses are too easy, including the last one.

I found Half-Life 2 to be brilliant, but the shooting action itself is a bit underwelming at times.

Of course I will need to get consensus on this before I actually count it as a flaw.

That's really tough because all of my favorite games have flaws. But the games that when I first played that I really felt the next big leap in gaming happened are Super Mario Bros. 3, Donkey Kong Country, Super Mario 64, Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Goldeneye 007, Half-Life, Halo: Combat Evolved, Metroid Prime, Super Smash Bros. Melee, and Call of Duty 4.

Cool. You've given me alot to work with. I know you said they all have flaws, but I'll point out the ones I see for the sake of the game.

I said earlier that Zelda was the only flawless game I could think of, but you've reminded me of alot more. With Super Mario Bros 3, Super Mario 64, Donkey Kong Country and Goldeneye I think you've found some pontential winners.

But Metroid Prime had too much backtracking despite being totally brilliant.

Halo has tons of flaws. Copy/paste environments, repetition, etc.

Call of Duty 4 kicks major ass, but it's too short. It needed a little more meat.

I'm not sure about Super Smash Bros Melee. I didn't spend enough time with it, but it doesn't have any immediate glaring flaws.

as far as tactical espionage games go I would have to say MGS1 was the best thing around it's time.

MGS1 was revolutionary for many genres IMO, but I think it has very distinct flaws that are actually easier to see in its less revolutionary sequels.

The control-scheme is one of them, it's complicated and counter-intuitive.

The over saturation of nano machine messages is another.

Pongbearbones

Well, Pong sort of jacked its premise from an earlier game (you can find out about this in the Is Pong or Wii more innovative? thread), so make of that what you will.

Screen

Exile 3: Ruined World

Its an old game, a really old game. I doubt many people here have even heard of it. For its time though, it was the best turn based strategy/hybrid RPG game I've ever played. Very ingenious concept, complex yet simple. I lost so many hours to this and its amazing how a small group of developers created a game that trumped mainstream titles with huge budgets.

Diablo: Horrible clickfest combat. Randomly generated dungeons. Crappy AI for allies. Generic environments.

Super Mario 64: Some levels had confusing layouts. Mario's movement actually feels like that of a fat plumber. Jam-packed with glitches that allow it to be completed in 16 minutes, however, that might just be because the game is so well-loved, and if people loved any game as much as SM64, they would find glitches and beat it in 16 minutes.

Half-Life 2: The ending was poop. The beginning was too slow. The Black Mesa East bit was too slow. The gravity gun was difficult to use effectively in combat. The jump-across-the-sand-avoid-the-antlions section was annoying. Some of the AI characters' lines were ridiculous, especially "Reload, Dr. Freeman!"

Ocarina of Time: Now this is a hard one, but I think I can do it. *pause, think* The final boss was way too easy. His first form was pretty tough, but his final final form was a joke, especially if you made use of the three extra fairies hidden around the arena. The arbitrary stealth sections were lame. Epona was too hard to find and too useless once you got her. Princess Ruto was creepy.

I think I'm pretty good at this. Now to offer my own target for your flaw-finding:

OKAMI.

Actually, Thief: the Dark Project was released at the same time as MGS1, and Thief had far better stealth mechanics.

Perfection.

II-FBIsniper-II

The powerups were terrible, the whole 'getting hit and Mario floats away' thing was far too annoying, and the worlds were repetitive and boring. :P

Oh yeah, um...Super Metroid.

Repetitive gameplay.

(Can't that be said about every single game Pre N64?)
