Witcher 3 for everything and for shooter, gotta go with Halo.

I expected to see Witcher 3, Fallout 4, Metal Gear Solid 5, and Bloodborne to be up there for GOTY awards nominees, but seeing Mario Maker was unexpected and it's not going to win, it all comes down to Witcher 3 or Fallout 4 for me. Not much else to say but I do hope this awards isn't 3 hours long like last year and I nearly fell asleep while commenting here on SW.

It shows how low gamers' standards are the for VA work, and narration is. Though, lets be honest, Master Chief has an amazing voice actor, while the Geralt's voice is monotonous and can only exhibit one emotion, boredom.

No Xbox exclusive nominees for goty. Greatest line of all time, huh?

Xbox One get's nothing but Halo 5 for best shooter and MP nominee. PS4 exclusive is just Bloodborne only. Oh and Nintendo get's there one exclusive game up there as well.

Well to be fair another year of no PC exclusive GOTY. Nice to see current gen 8 console leader PS4 get the nod with it's AAAE Editors Choice award winning Bloodborne.

Wii U also had Splatoon, Mario Party 10, Yoshi's Woolly World, and Kirby and the Rainbow Curse that released this year. So more than one exclusive :P

Ori and Rocket League deserve to be in that GOTY discussion, over Mario Maker, I'd probably argue over Fallout 4, but I didn't play that game, nor plan to anytime soon. Otherwise go Metal Gear or Bloodborne out of that 5.

For indie, the lack of Crypt of the Necrodancer, Galak-Z, Sunless Sea, Soma, and Infinifactory is a little disappointing considering they lost a spot to poor man's Super Metroid and Her Story, and I think Her Story is kind of rad.

Agreed 100%. Geralt voice is incredibly boring.

@PonchoTaco: That's also true but I was talking about GOTY nominees only. Still though, it's been a good year for the big 3 it seems but however, I do find it odd that there's no Legend of Zelda Wii U not listed on Most Anticipated Game 2016.

Also Splatoon should be GOTY with Super Mario Maker.

The Witcher 3 has a ton of nominations, but I don't think I've ever been more "meh" on a game with such high praise as I am with TW3.

Speaking seriously, only two surprises: Mario Maker on the GOTY ballot (albeit their GOTY ballot reflects mine exactly except for Rocket League in place of MM), and no mention of Helldivers in any category.

Feel like the indie game of the year nominees deserved to be up for game of the year. At least some of them. Undertale should have been up for best narrative over a few of the crappy nominations as well.

For Game of the Year I see it coming down between Witcher 3 and Bloodborne. I see Halo 5 winning everything except soundtrack.

@mesome713: You are right, it was announced for 2016 when it got delayed. But Nintendo later released plans for 2016, and LoZ WiiU wasn't one of the games planned for 2016. It only got confirmed once again today. Before Direct, people had their doubts, and this is a predetermined list of games coming in 2016. Nintendo sent mixed messages about Zelda's date.

thats one way to stop halo from getting GOTY, don't even let them vote on it. What a terrible list. but what can you expect from a jury panel that consists of wired, yahoo, usa today, vice polygon, pc gamer, LA times and other terrible sources

It's a shame they are lumping indie games into their own categories and keeping them out of GOTY nominations. Ori, Rocket League, and Undertale provided a better experience than some of the games listed for GOTY. Such a shame.

Also FWIW The only game on that list that's good IMO is fallout. the rest were trash, it's sad how these bad games are considered the best. But hey in a generation where katey perry, taylor swift, and just bieber are considered good musicians, i guess i can see why

The three best-written game narratives this year, Steins Gate, Higurashi, and Undertale, all got snubbed. But it's not surprising, because game awards almost always make terrible/mediocre choices when it comes to storytelling/narrative awards.
