The Greatest Console Of All Time Is 25 Years Old Today

25 years ago, Nintendo launched the Super Famicom in Japan today, and in the process they launched what would go on to become the greatest console of all time. The SNES would go on to become legendary, and to this day, it hosts more games that show up on Greatest Games of All Time lists than any other console. The SNES library was a thing of beauty, that covered mostly every single genre that was then known, and it represented the pinnacle of 2D game design, and game design in general- an argument can be made that game design has never achieved the same highs since.

There were so many great games on the SNES:

What were your favorite ones?

Wi U is only 3 years old. Plus it plays all them classics and Wii games.

I enjoy Super Mario World, Super Metroid, Chrono Trigger, and some Kirby Super Star.

Whats funny is i have a very small SNES collection, but i have a bunch of these. Most my classics are on eShop now, i dont really have anymore NES, SNES, and N64 games anymore.

I was confused for a second because I already made the G.O.A.T's 25th birthday thread last year, but then I remembered that this is a world where James Harden won the players' choice MVP, lol.

Anyway, Mega Man X-X3, Mega Man 7, Super Metroid, Chrono Trigger, ALttP, Sparkster, and Super Castlevania IV are my favorite SNES games.

I still remember the Christmas morning when i opened my SNES like it was yesterday, i also remember how hyped i was, nothing like that nowadays.

Just wanted it for Street Fighter Turbo, and it was worth it.

Chrono Trigger = best JRPG

Yoshi's Island = best platformer

Super Metroid = best 2D Adventure game

My father bought it for me. It was a surprise. I was so hyped about it. I woke up at 3am that night just to play Street Fighter 2. My mother saw me and knew I wanted to try it. She said "go, have fun". Best days ever.

The Wii isn't even 10 years old yet though.

I think my favourite game on the SNES was the one where you were doing stuff. I had a lot of fond memories doing said stuff.

The SNES was godly. Good times a small child playing it. I actually enjoy the games now more so than I did back then, especially Super Mario World.

The SNES is easiy GOAT, so many awesome games, though you forgot to mention Super Punch Out. The PS2 also has a really good library but few games from that era have aged well. The reason SNES games are still as great today is because several of them perfected 2D gameplay.
