The Hardest Game You've Ever Played?

So I recently got Demon's Souls and then proceeded to play it for almost 100 hours. What struck me most was people all over saying how HARD it was suppose to be. Expecting a great challenge I popped the disc in and proceeded to not die once through 1-1. Nor was any other point in the game rather difficult (there's tons of easy ways to kill almost every boss. Even the last one). Now having beat it on NG+ as well. . .I found myself disappointed in gamers who all claimed it was ULTRA HARD (the game is great btw).

This got me thinking: What games are TRUELY HARD? Please Exclude SHUMPS and non localized games that I'll never be able to play.

Some games on gameboy or something lol some are nearly impossible.

Overall? Tie between Ninja Gaiden and Baldur's Gate 1. Both were quality difficulty games.

NG had some insane bosses and platforming. In BG you can die in almost every encounter if you're not careful. One sword spider can own your whole party. Sarevok was crazy difficult, and even the pre-boss fight possy was very tough (arrows of detonation, anyone?)

Demon souls is a very hard game. So dont come with that Truely crap. Other hard games were NGS or NG or NGB just pick oneand.......ummmm im pretty sure I ran into hard games before but I cant remember them.

Why exclude SHMUPs? Anyways a few roguelikes out there take years of replays to beat, I generally don't play much of those though.

Demon souls is a very hard game. So dont come with that Truely crap. Other hard games were NGS or NG or NGB just pick oneand.......ummmm im pretty sure I ran into hard games before but I cant remember them.

Alundra, probably. It wasn't so much hard as the puzzles were just tedious.

Hard is not the same as cheap. What made Demon's Souls so brilliant is that is was a difficult and challenging game without (in my opinion) ever being cheap or unfair.

If you are looking for utterly cheap, unfair, and frustrating games....you can find a lot more "difficult" games than Demon's Souls.

I would also suggest something like Rick Dangerous and Bucky O'Hare on "HARD!".

Those are all challenging, but there are a lot harder games out there.

FZERO GX for the GC. I was able to complete the first two races in story mode and that was it.

Exacly thats what makes a hard game hard. It makes you think before you act. In NG you die because you werent quick enough does that make it easy now since you know why you died? No it makes you rethink things and get better atit.Also remember theres cheap and theres hard aka a challenge. Point is to call demon souls not a truely hard game is just silly.

I agree Demon's Souls had moments that were difficult and it never did really come across as CHEAP as you say. But it was not a hard game. The final boss can be killed with a bow without taking 1 step forward. Both dragons can be killed without ever taking damage. Phanalax can be taken out with fire or Soul Arrows (and in NG+ Soul Ray makes him a joke). Almost every boss can be killed with a manual aiming bow without ever even having to move. That said, I love the game. It's just not hard like everyone tried to make it seem. Hence my quest to find truly HARD games. Thanks for the link!mythrol

Heh, no problem! Also, I agree with you. The majority of the fights, I read about tactics to cheese the fights, particularly with the bow and sometimes with magic. In my playthrough I went 100% melee (except for the boss at 4-3), so I got a pretty nice challenge.

Personally,I'd say Mega Man 1 was harder. It's about as basic as Mega Man has ever been,and there are no items to help make parts of the game easier.

On topic,Contra 4. It's just plain absurd in how difficult it is. There isn't even a save system,which makes the game harder,albeit in a way that's more annoying and dated than legitimately "challenging."

This was hella hard to complete as i remember tho I'm not sure it was the hardest, it was the first game I thought of.

I would definitely have to say Ninja Gaiden. The Alma boss fight literally had made me tearful(I know, pathetic right?)--I had never been so angry and frustrated with a game before NG. I was much younger at the time though and the Xbox controller was easily the most uncomfortable controller I have ever had the displeasure of holding(it was entirely too big for my hands). I'm probably capable of beating it now though.

Dude you can have your opinion on whats hard,but to call someone unskillful cause you think your some gaming god cause you figured out some things on your own. Well im hoping it was on your own with no guides at all since thats what I did with the game I went in blind. Is just downright wrong and makes you look silly and cocky which by the way is a very anoying personality trait.

No it doesint it just shows that you found a way to beat the bosses. Finding out things doesint exclude the hardness of a game. Hell thats the point of it. A hard game makes you think instead of going rambo on it. Also yea NG+ is a step up in difficulty. Iv seen top 10 hard list long ago it doesint change anything.

Starcraft & Broodwar campaign(one of the hardest frustrating game I've played)

COD4-There No Fighting in War Room(veteran)

Ghost's 'N' Goblins, Deadly Towers, Shadow of the Beast series, and Demon's Souls.

Did you try NG+ entirely in body form? That is ****in' hard. You get invaded a lot making you die a lot, turning your world tendancy to all black, making it even harder.

I was invaded 6 times while killing the red dragon.

The hardest game I have ever played was the Battletoad game back then for the Sega Genesis. The actual gameplay wasn't all that bad to be quite honest but the platforming aspect of it was just a totally different story. I was never able to get the timing down for it, and as a result I always failed when I get to this point of the game!
