As the title suggests the PC is still very quietly moving onwards through the changing landscapes of gaming and still holding its own. So consider what it has to offer in terms of quantity and quality of games, the still unrivalled online experience(yes xb live gamers the pc makes your chosen online service look slightly limp), MMOs, and the yet to be trumped mouse/keyboard FPS control method. I could mention xb,ps3 and even Wii exclusives but the PC has 'em too WOW anyone? So i think the PC could be regarded as a contender for King of platforms!

And remember the 3D stereoscopic gaming and HD has been around for a decade or so already on pc!

Consoles are worth owning for exclusives (though the only one I *really* love this generation is my DS), but the PC has always been my primary platform. It's not the be-all end-all gaming platform, but it's certainly the closest thing to it, imo.

The humble PC? since when has the PC been humble at all. Its "hardcore" users are the most elitest *****s. No other platform audience have I come across more people talking about things they have no idea about and are convinced they are correct.

Is the PC the best platform. Yes. Humble? nope.

Console's get all the press, have massive marketing budgets, and corporate promotions.

The PC has none of this.

Yet when you look at how flexible the PC is, the ability for some of the games to be modded, incredible gaming deals that are available through digital distribution, it is easy to conclude that the PC is quite viable.

On the downside, most games are mutli-platform which means not much changes in terms of technical progress. Consoles have long, long technicalcycles and therefore they are holding back some of the progress that existed prior to Microsoft releasing the Xbox and especially the 360.

But this fact also has an upside for PC gamers. It means they don't have to upgrade as often. In fact, you can play just about everything fine with an 8800GTX video card from, what about four or five years ago?

I would never claim a platform to be the 'best', as I think personal preference will always dictate such allegations. However, the PC is definitely the most flexible platform. When you look at the indie scene, the modding community, and the bigger variety of games that are truly unique, the PC at least deserves sympathy for offering a stage to developer talent that isn't backed by million dollar publishers. It's truly a unique gaming platform.

The 'humble' might not necessarily refer to the audience. I'll agree PC gamers aren't the most modest and humble people out there, but when you look at the indie scene and the modding community, and the fact that basically anyone with talent and ambition can try their luck on the PC before anything else, the PC could very well be considered a humble platform.

But that isn't part of the console, a console costs 'x' amount. I could do a Falcon Northwest or a $4000 SSD...and that would actually be a part of the machine, and not an accessory.

I already have a computer, and one that I am pretty satisfied with. My point was to merely show that to say a computer could cost you upwards of $5000 is not totally unbelievable.

To say that a console costs 'thousands of dollars" is not true because the console costs 'x' amount. It is the accessories that add up, just like with everything else though.

Maybe its just me, but I have never been as good with a mouse/keyboard as I have been with a well designed controller (in my mind the "well designed" controller is the 360 controller). Does the controller have to compensate for not enough small and calculated movements? Yes. But I prefer the way they mold to my hands...and I have never had to look down at my controller to find where my hands have gone to after furious button pressing. I have with my keyboard...and one reason I went and bought a backlit keyboard.

I guess if you go by "Most amount of categories won", then probably. PC offers a lot to any crowd. However, subjectivity will raise it's ugly head repeatedly when regarding different things.

Im sorry, but no. Only enthusiasts that don't game, rather just go for bench scores spend more than five grand on a computer. Gaming enthusiasts usually spend around $1000 give or take. And I;d liek to point out I said enthusiasts too, most PC gamers can get away with spending $4-500 on a rig. And with the little extra money spent over buying a $300 console comes huge advangates that consoles simply don't have. So of course you pay more for a superior product.

Yes, it's just you. Everyone has his preferences, but it is a fact that the mouse/keyboard provides superior accuracy and movement, and the article proves it.

It's all irrelevant anyway, seeing as you can just plug a controller into your PC.

Arguing about the display is pointless, since you can use a monitor with DVI+HDCP or a HDTV for either platform. If you already have one, you can use it for either, and if you don't have one, you'd need it for either one anyway.

My computer cost me around $1200, and excluding all the things that make a computer, well, a computer (only taking gaming into the picture) I have yet to notice anything on a gaming computer that makes it stand out from my $300 360S...except for maybe superior disk drives.

Is this rather subjective? Yes. But it is all I have to go on. Just as you do, because I would never consider a $500 computer to be better than my 360S.

So consider what it has to offer

I have considered what the PC offers. Its advantages in graphics, control precision, and openness aren't enough to draw me away from the ease of use of consoles.

I never understood this. If you're a gamer, and you love to play games, then why wouldn't you be willing to put in a little more effort for a superior experience? Hey lowe, how's that new XBox? It's pretty crappy, but it's really easy for simple. I love it. Yay.

Because in my opinion the marginal improvement isn't worth the marginal cost (in time and effort). What part of that wasn't clear?

[QUOTE="w4rrior17"]Im sorry, but no. So of course you pay more for a superior product.R3FURBISHED

Did you built your current rig?

I did...and had a friend who knew more about all the components help me because I didn't want to botch anything by doing it myself.

PC definately is my favorite platform :) But unfortunately most games that interest me just aren't there for the PC. For instance: BlazBlue Continuum Shift and SUPER Street Fighter IV are not available on PC. (Capcom stated that they won't release SSFIV on PC because of Piracy...) PC has old BlazBlue Calamity Trigger and the old Street Fighter IV... but nobody plays those older versions lol Fighting Games are dominant on Consoles - and it's my favorite genre. Nobody gives a sht about the older versions of Fighting Games being on PC. (Like older Melty Blood or Guilty Gear Versions that aren't worth metioning) And newer Fighting Games will never be released on PC. Arcana Heart 3? Never. Continuum Shift? No waiii.. Super Street Fighter IV? Not Going to happen.. Marvel vs Capcom 3? Not going to happen any time soon... I think PC is the best platform - It's the most versatile by far and a true Multimedia Center (unlike PS3 or 360) But there are just TOO many "Console" Exclusives that I don't want to miss. (Nearly ALL Fighting Games are on Consoles) But games like Red Dead Redemption, Uncharted, Super Mario Galaxy or Valkyria Chronicles are just too good to ignore. That's why I prefer Consoles over PC for gaming: It has a much better Game Library. Nearly anything the PC has and much more..

OK. So you know about the whole custom pc thing. Yet you don't think a custom $500 PC would whoop your 360's ***? And we're not talking about preference here, you were specific in stating that a $500 computer would lose out to your 360. That tells me we're clearly talking technical here. In which case a $500 custom built wins every time.
