The issue with Gamespot's redesign...

So I took a quick screenshot of the main Gamespot homepage after noticing that the entire view-able page was taken up by adverts upon initial loading:

I had to scroll down a full screen just to start reading the actual site content.

I mean come on!

No wonder people use ad blocking software for Christ's sake.

The main issue I've found is that it's become much slower than before now.

yep def this.... slow load times are a pain... but im sure they will sort it out.... still early days

I'm rather enjoying the new site, but there are some legit things I'd like changed over time.. . . I think after some tweaking it'll get where it needs to be.

It is absolutely aweful what was done to the site! Here is a list of some of those aweful things:

- You get prompted by the site every minute or so to download a .js file from site (in IE 10); in FireFox you repeatedly get a warning about a Java Script taking too long

- The Site, videos and pictures load much slower - video playback has even become choppy. I now watch the YouTube versions of video reviews just to avoid your stupid video player.
I am on a maxed out Alienware M18x R2 and have a Fiber connection, so no it is not my environment causing this

- It is too cluttered with pictures and graphics; you have to scroll down several pages to get past all the "eye candy"

- I spent 10 minutes clicking the "load more comments" button until it took me to the first comments made on an article. Add a "Go to Page X" buttons or revert back to the old style

- One can no longer browse reviews easily. Most people look at the list of new reviews and right-click them and choose to open them in new browser tabs.
But Guess what? This no longer works because everything is flash. Flash does not let you right- click and open in a new tab.

Fix or revert back to the old site or I will head onto IGN and keep it locked on IGN

I despise this new site. Utterly horrendous. The boards aren't as active and everything except tracking is worse.

I was trying to find my comment that I posted in the Bioshock Infinite re-review (Score 4). So many people commented on the review so it took forever. I was one of the first to comment so I had a lot of replies that I wanted to read.

Yeah, SW was pretty inactive in the last few days. But today, I'm seeing a bit more activity, so hopefully, people are adapting to the change, instead of going away.

Some people hate it, they say it takes away revenue from people who depend on ads, and whatever.

I say, **** that. Even at gunpoint, you'd have a hard time convincing me to expose myself to those annoying ads.

Perhaps a period of adjustment then?

Over the last few days, the GS was nearly unusable for me. Today, it's a bit more stable, fortunately.

In any case, it was a pretty rough transition.

BTW, you can fit much more bookmarks on the toolbar by right clicking on one then properties, then leaving name blank.

Think better question is can they even tell? I think ad prices might have dropped due to it's release, but they should find better ways to attract people...

My first problem of how painfully slow it is. GS is no longer my primary forums any more because of this.

Haha your screen must be super low resolution. On loading the home page I have all the adverts still but I still see 4 or 5 article headlines (below the videos)

I have no idea, all I know is, I'm not giving up any convenience for the sake of people who make money by being an annoyance. I have "non-intrusive" ads allowed in AdBlock, that's all they're getting.

Honestly I've pretty much gotten used to this new design, there's still a few things I want but It's not as bad as I once thought.

I want Sigs back.

The ability to see what threads I have replies in, and which ones I've previously commented in without actually visiting the thread itself.

It's still way slower than the old GS. Hopefully that get's fixed soon.

I only don't like the fact that it's a lot slower.. gamespot used to be super fast and easily accessible. Pretty much the only reason i came to this site over IGN or other sites that had a more confusing navigation. But this just now looks silly... looks more presentable yes.. but let's useful overall.

Nah, he has lower than 1600x900, mine is that and I can see some of the pictures below and mine shows more of the sides of the beyond ad.

I love this new design. Rid of the stupid level ten rule. Why the hell would I want to wait for months to reach level ten just so I can post something I thought of months ago?

This. Hopefully it's just a launch thing. Way more errors so far than the error-fest that was the old site.

It would make sense. The boards are pretty hard for me to follow, at least, because there is no longer a link to just go to the unread posts. I don't like posting in a forum and then having to hunt for the page and find my place to see if there were any replies.

@John_Matherson: always thought the 10lv was stupid and a weak ass attempt to prevent trolls

Yeah trolls are going to troll either way with suicide accounts but making it level 10 is just too far fetched and unfair for those who actually have things to say. Level 5 would've made more sense but either way, glad it's done.

Yeah I was thinking likely 768 too.
