If you wander outside System Wars, I am sure you have seen the new trailer for Trackmania (the console version).

Also, you may have noticed Sony's big E3 2009 game, Modnation Racers, is also coming out very soon.

They are both racing games with fully user created tracks!

Trackmania (the original PC game (you can download the demo at the site)), became one of the most popular games in the European continent, with millions of people playing online, making their own tracks, or playing ones others made. And with LBP proving something that deep can work on a console, Sony has hired a new developer to create Modnation Racers!

Ironically enough, Trackmania was also headed exclusive to the Wii (and DS) at the same time.

Looks like there is going to be a battle brewing....

So what do you guys think? Will the king retain his throne as he conquers the console space, or will Modnation Racers manage to beat it and take the crown?

How will Trackmania's level sharing work on the Wii? The only level sharing I've experienced on the Wii was Brawl, and that wasn't very good.

The problem here is the online on the Wii is not as good as PS3, because MNR will bring online racing, sharing and other stuff, like rating tracks, cars or avatars.

And in the trailer all I saw is making tracks, it is impressive but in MNR you can costumize both your avatar and cars in addition to tracks.

I don't know about you but I like the look Of Modnationracers more.

Trackmania Nations Forever is the best Free game ever. MNR does look pretty good, more so the editor seems simple, while still having some nice customization to it. TMNF has a bit more complicated editor, but its still easy enough, and you can get some incredibly crazy good custom maps. If it werent for the custom maps, and the ease of being able to play them, TMNF wouldnt be that great, I admit to that. As for the Wii version, its seems like it will be ok, as TM lover, I prob wont be getting it though. I have United on my PC, so I don't feel like I'll be getting my moneys worth.

I had not bothered to look at trackmania before now. That blew me away, not the graphics or anything. When I was a kid I loved this game called Stunt Driver. It was the first game I ever played which allowed the gamer to design their own levels. I have not played any game like it after that point. Trackmania is the closest thing like Stunt Driver I have seen.

If you want to try Trackmania, grab Trackmania Nations from Steam. It's great, has pretty low system requirements and free to boot. There's also Trackmania United for PC which does cost money but has a lot more content. The Wii game is basically a port of the PC game with one less environment, but more blocks for at least one of the environments and some new editor tricks going by the last trailer.

The trackmanias on pc are great fun, some incredibly unique, twisted, mind**** tracks within the time trial gametype in the game. Havent really looked too much into this wii version, and im unsure what to think of how well it will turn out compared to the pc versions.

Though as of now, im gonna side with MNR when specifically going up against trackmania for the wii.

Right now I'm leaning most toward split second.

realisim and trackmania should never be used in the same sentence....you need to watch a few vids to see why. trackmania is, in absolutely no way, a sim. mario kart is more realistic. as for the topic....if were just talking about TMwii vs modnation then itll boil down to both the community and the online systems of both games. trackmania wii will probably have a fantastic editor (if its anything like the PC version anyway)...but beyond that..hard to say. if its going up against TM united forever on the PC......yea....thats not going to end well for modnations. TM has had years of a fantastic community building wonderful and terrible..but terrible is vetted) tracks and tis online systems and its ability to distribute tracks is an absolute masterclass. its a lesson in how to do it. modnations will probably look better...thats about it. modnations may be a better game offline though. TM is not at its best until its online and working with wonderful tracks built by the community.

risk id imagine...making a PS3/360 version would cost an absolute fortune and theres no proof that the markets on those platforms would want it. data seems to indicate that the PS3/360 market prefer racing sims like GT or forza. or to put it another way...the devs are after the mario kart crowd...a huge crowd on the wii.

Level editing actually looks a lot more crazy (in a good way) on TrackMania, but I'm not a fan of just racers, I like kart racers. I prefer the cartoonish look and attack based racing of kart racers, so I'll probably pick up ModNation Racers. TM looks promising though, I'll keep it on my radar.

I think I will grab MNR in the stead of Trackmania, the community wont be as robust considering how horid the Wii's online is. The more hoops I have to jump through to get to the content the less interested I am, plus the realistic cars plus the whacky physics puts me off for some reason.

In the battle between Modnation Racers and Trackmania Wii the winner is easily MNR.

Better online in every key area, better physics, four player split-screen multiplayer.

Trackmania on the PC kicks everyones asses in terms of level editing but the Wii version doesn't compare the slightest to it.

I'd take TrackMania over ModNation Racers. I like the emphasis on extreme speed and insane track design. Reminds me of F-Zero GX.

In the battle between Modnation Racers and Trackmania Wii the winner is easily MNR.

Trackmania on the PC kicks everyones asses in terms of level editing but the Wii version doesn't compare the slightest to it.

JLF1

I'm not quite sure how physics makes ModNation Racers better. >.>The more realistic the physics, the more...Guess what, realistic the handling and collision is among other things. However, when each racer is going for a different experience, judging which racer is better on the basis of physics is a moot point. Heck, TrackMania isn't even a combat racer.

By the way, you jumped the gun on the multiplayer...

Also, I haven't heard anything about not being able to import tracks from the various PC versions. As long as the assets used are the same, tracks under a certain size limit could be ported over. Judging by the trailers, that limit should be more than adequate for most tracks.

we is there always a need to put the ps3 games down in sw?

edo-tensei

For the same reasons as putting down any other game in System Wars: Because it's fun and gets people riled up and more into discussion.
