No, Dreamcast/N64/PSX
Graphics and animation improvement would be the era you just said.
Dreamcast fits into it's own gen really, it was launched when PSX was still going, it however had many titles that looked superior to the next gen Gamecube/PS2/XBOX consoles.
Gen 6. I had way more fun with the PC, DC, GCN, Xbox, and GBA than I did with the PC, 360, PS3, Wii, DS, and psp in gen 7.

I realize im the only person in the world to have hated Goldeneye..I thought not only graphically it was horrible, but the controls were horrid at best. Halo perfected the genre on consoles. We still use the control system today..and Halo also really started the competition trend with FPS on consoles..Still the best HALO made to me.
I think gen 7 was better than gen 6 really. The gen that introduced true open world games, that took online gaming much further, the gen that, for better or worse, created many more options both aesthetically (3D anyone?), and also physically, allowing new ways to play a game with motion controls and the like. Gen 7 was truly better than gen 6 in my eyes.
Gaming has gotten significantly better every gen and that will continue with the PS4/Xbox One/WIi U.
The only downside is that now we have online fee's, lots of yearly rehashes and DLC, but you can avoid those for the most part.

I know that :) i just choose to think of the Dreamcast as a generation of it's own.
