when I'm using a shotgun and aiming at a guy's head, I want to blow it clean off, none of this blood-spurt-but-the-head-is-still-intact shit
*cough*GTA5*cough*
it should be in chunks scattered across the floor

The violence in TLOU was important to the game's atmosphere and tone. It was important that it be very realistic. It doesn't have to be in a game like GTA.

Soldier of Fortune 1 & 2 still have the best "video game gore", imo.

If you aim a shotgun at a guys head at close range and shoot it, it isn't gonna be intact.

Can't wait for technology to reach the point where we can see the actual brain pieces spurting out of the guy's head.

That doesn't sound good does it?

Pfft unless you live in the States, Sony and ND stealth released a censored TLOU every where else, least GTA5 has parity. http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-08-05-naughty-dog-confirms-european-version-of-the-last-of-us-censored

Very few games do that. TLOU is one of the few. Frankly, the level of gore in that game made me uncomfortable, though that was undoubtedly Naughty Dog's intention.

You can see pieces of brains going out in SoF II.

Resident Evil 4 also allowed to blast heads into pieces.

Yeaaaah that wouldn't fit well with GTA at all and it'd make killing pedestrians even creepier, imagine running someone over and their head popping open when they hit the ground, it'd be too messed up. I know the old games have dismemberment but that was so cartoony that it hardly counts. Plus Rockstar already topped TLOU's level of violence with the Manhunt games and look how the ratings boards felt about that, GTA's controversial enough as it is.

Someday the gaming industry will have as much freedom as the movie industry...

GTA is supposed to be more toned down in that regard. TLOU needed that violence to sell how hopeless and cruel the world was, I don't think watching limbs fly off as I drive into people at speed would be very nice

I enjoy me some gore on occasion. It's cathartic. Not every game needs a lot of realism though. For isntance, Max Payne 3 seemed pretty authentic... I ocne saw a dead dude keep running for about ten seconds before he went headfirst into a wall.

But you're both talking about hitting random pedestrians.

it did nothing to me but i always preferred TLOU kind of violence if it has guns in it. This is what i want from Uncharted 4. I want them to reboot the franchise in a much more serious tone (not like the shitty tomb raider 2013). Put a strong villain like Vaas and i could be excited about a new uncharted once more, if not, im not even renting it...

Max Payne 3 type of violence would've been nice too.

i don't care about gore one way or the other but a head shot should be a kill... always. nobody is going to be running around with a bullet in their head.

Haven't started GTA 5 to comment on its tone.

But, Rockstar game, post San Andreas, 2013, and somehow the tone of that game isn't serious enough to warrant the violence be a bit more brutal?

I do agree with the general opinion though. The Last of Us's details on violence do not translate to every violent videogame. It's a matter of tone.

yeah oddly enough this is one of the things bugging me the most about gta.  Even when you stab someone the gore isn't really there.  It really feels weird when you're playing a psychopath like trevor and buckets of blood aren't spilling, maybe in the PC version.

Are you kidding me? That would be fvcking hilarious.

Pretty sure I read something about dismemberment in GTA V somewhere, I've played the game at my friend's house, but it doesn't seem to be anywhere. The torture scenes with Trevor however were perfect. It was satisfying.
