So far here are the reviews:

OXM: 7.8

Team XBOX: 6.8

Gamepro:  3/5

Gamespot: 6.5

Wow! A little disappointing so far. I really expected scores around high 8's or even 9's. But I haven't played it so I don't know for sure what I'd think of it.

But if this is Square-Enix's effort in making a RPG for the western market, they better partner up with BioWare or Bethesda next time like how they did with Gas-Powered Games or opening a new studio in LA, or else they're in for a big challenge against games like Dragon Age, Fallout 3, or other western RPGs.

I still think it looks decent, most of the negatives from several reviews don't effect me that much, and I like the idea of the squad based gameplay, from the RPG-specific sites I use for previews and reviews, its gotten some fairly solid previews, none have really reviewed it yet, but for an RPG fan it seems like it should still be decent, I'll give it a rent.

I'd wait for the ps3 or pc version, because most of the issues the reviewers complained about were technical, and hopefully those will be fixed

Square-Enix pretty much died after FF10. Just about all their games now are not even worth playing.

I expected these type of scores. I'm not sure how the combat is, but the story seems so typical. I mean, damn! It just seems so unoriginal. I have absolutely no desire to pick this game up. If I get any console JRPG this year, it will be Persona 4.

I agree, and I didn't like FF10 anyway. Square and Enix are both amazing developers, and while both seem to have slipped since their unionization, they still put out a lot of great titles. Also, square and enix each keep to themselves in a lot of cases, i.e FF12 likely had nothing to do with Enix, also I really liked 12, but I don't think Enix has developed much since the company combination, especially since passing off DQ to Level 5.

They are spending too much money on FFXIII. They just don't have enough to fund good games for any other system besides handhelds right now.

You obviously don't know the history and reason for The Last Remnant do you. How it's a worldwide release, a western-styled main character with a Japanese styled main character and on the 360. It's a experiment for Square-Enix for making a RPG that mixes western-styled gaming. FF is NOT western-styled RPG gaming. The Last Remnant is, well trying to be with Japanese RPG mixed in.

Final Fantasy is their western market game, they don't need Last Remnant.

I hope if they learned one thing they should make good games, not new IPs that go nowhere.

Granted I am only 10 hours in... but it is actually a decent game. One of the better rpg's this gen imo.

The game is not a instant classic that will be remembered for generations, however it is leaps and bounds better then other offerings currently available on the next gen consoles in the genre. If you read the reviews they are all citing technical issues with the game. However, these issues are quickly resolved by installing the game to the HD.

The one review to look past these tech issues was Famitsu, who rated the game 38/40. I don't think the game is -that- good. But certainly it is a jrpg worth playing if you're into them.

Its because of UE3. It sucks for 3rd parties. It hurt LO's score, and its hurt TLR. The negatives have all been about performance. I hate that engine so much.

I hope SE's new US studio works on high res 2D rpg's for PSN and Live, innovative stuff like TWEWY.

I agree i'm like 50% into the game and most of the issues were solved with installing it to the hdd. The only thing that annoys me is that there is still a fps drop here and there but nothing to serious. The game is great btw I hope people are not thrown of the technical issue and give it a chance its a great rpg, the combat system takes some time to develop but when you get a bigger party together it really shines.

As I said before in other threads, Famitsu has a cozy relationship with major publishers like Square-Enix so take its scores with a grain of salt. In fact, the flop Lair was scored 33/40, while another flop Haze scored 34/40.

I actually heard the game is alright, what bogs down the score is the performance issues.

If you looked at GameSpot's score for example you would see 6.5 and think the game is bad, if you actually read the review on the other hand it is full of praise with the performance being the only major negative factor.

what the...i thought SE developed ffX but Squaresoft developed ff9. I have always thought that SE's best game was ffX. I hope FFx-2 wasn't made by Squaresoft cuz that game was purely just for the fans... and the gameplay sucked.
