We've just had a look at a verified email, sent from Xbox LIVE customer support, claiming that a recent update to Xbox LIVE is preventing "a very small number of Xbox 360 owners from playing retail discs". The email, which was verified via this twitter post from Xbox Support http://www.kotaku.com.au/2011/05/breaking-will-the-latest-xbox-live-update-affect-dvd-drives/

That sucks, at least they sent him a free xbox slim and a year of gold.

the dvd drive in mine is broken anyway. Piece of garbage it was.

That's specifically for beta testers as they're the only ones who have the update. Everyone else remains unaffected.

They probably did something wrong because mine works fine with the beta update.

Mine is to the point where I can't even play most of my games. I can only play some but I have to install them for them to run without giving out.
