The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D Sells Out

So apparently, the 3DS's first big game is a big, big hit, if we are to go by UK sales numbers and anecdotal accounts.

They say nostalgia sells, but rarely does it sell this well. It would appear thatThe Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3Dis a huge hit, with modern gamers apparently itching to get their hands on a prettier version of a thirteen-year-old game. I can hardly blame them.

The game is currentlyAmazon.com's top selleracross all videogame software, hardware and peripherals. It has also reached second place in the United Kingdom sales charts after releasing in the country this Friday. Although it's not first place, this is relatively huge news -- I don't even think I could use up one hand by counting the number of DS/DSi games that ever made it to number two, and considering this is the less widespread 3DS platform, that is a huge achievement.

Compacting this are anecdotal reports around the Web thatOcarina of Time 3Dhas sold out in several US locations, as well as the entirety of Japan. Our own associate editor Jonathan Holmeshas reportedthat his local GameStop and the two Target stores he visited were completely out of copies. It's possible Nintendo undershipped copies to manufacture hype, but it seems to be doing the trick!

Yes, it's a polished port of a thirteen-year-old game, but it seems that, more than a decade on,The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Timeis still one of the most influential and respected titles in the world. I am okay with that.

What do you guys think about this? Do you think Ocarina's release indicates an upward future trend for the 3DS? Do you think it will cause a hardware sales spike for the system?

Of course it will cause a hardware spike, it really will get the ball rolling. The game is totally sold out where I live in,, im sure this will get peoples interest in a 3ds.

You know what sucks? I can't get a CD, simply because the game doesn't release here until much, much later.charizard1605

Also I believe the CDs are set by Regions so if you can't Register because the Game isn't out then don't fret, You still have a chance cause people that register in England, Japan or the US don't effect your chances.

At least that's what I'm assuming.

All I have to say is I'd better get my goddamn CD. I registered my game and I haven't seen a damn thing about it yet. If I don't get my CD, HEADS. WILL. ROLL. :twisted:

I already have two copies of the game (VC and GC LoZ Collector's Edition), but this is definitely must-buy for me as soon as I get 3DS....... soon. The graphical upgrade looks pretty significant for me. And I'm not sure about how they will give the OSTs out, but I kinda wanna get that too.funsohng

I played the game today on my brother's 3DS and we then compared it to the N64 original which I have downloaded to my Wii. The difference is night and day. The people who claim it's not much of a upgrade couldn't be any more wrong. Everything is clean and crisp, the lighting is improved, things that were chunky looking on the 64 are properly rounded, all the parts that were blurry on the 64 now have plenty of texture, etc. etc. The remake may not look as Twilight Princess or Wind Waker, but is waaaaaaaay closer to those in overall visual fidelity than the N64 original.

Dude did you close the window? or click ANYTHING after the Registration. Cause when I registered my game fully I waited and a Pop Up came up saying I qualified for the Ocarina of Time CD and I had to click a link (lol) to get redirected to the Order Screen.

Did you know there is a limited edition with a yellow/golden case and minimap? Or something like that. Kind of a lame limited edition but I never heard them say that there would be one.

the 3DS has been starved for a big-name Nintendo game. Finally one arrives, albeit a 13-year old port. That said, Mario 64 was also extremely popular on DS so I can see OOT being extremely popular on 3DS.

Can't wait to see the rest of the big guns come out this year-- Mario 3D, Starfox, Kid Icarus, and Mario Kart. The 3DS is only going to get more exciting from here on out ladies and gentlemen.

Well software hasn't taken off too much on 3DS, but third parties are doing okay. 160k to 350k for most titles ain't bad considering its two months old, and the smaller budgets.

I'm hoping Nintendo ships regular stock of the title. It could be a system seller until Icarus and Fox, Kart and Super Mario this fall.

My store I work at totally underestimated the launch, and we only have about 3-6 3DS customers total, and it sold over 30 copies sunday. We still have a few left, but not a lot.

I even had someone the other buy a 3DS coz Tetris 3D was announced for an October release, go figure.

I'm predicting SW and it's mass "3DS is a failure lets just say it" threads are going to be shocked when not only does the 3DS have the best handheld library of 2011, the best first party line up of 2011, but also picks up a lot of steam without a price drop and outsells the competition very well at its current price.

God Forbid the panic that will ensue as consumers fight for 3DSs if GameFreak and Nintendo release 3DS Pokemon Grey or the Ruby/Sapphire remakes next March (Pokemon gets annual games now, so it's either DS, or 3DS from this point on)

The question is who is going to sell more? This or the CE Remake

3DS will only have 10-15 million customers by then, you're comparing OOT sales to a remake on a platform with 8-10 million potential Halo fans on an overall platform of possible 60 million or more by November

Now, comparing it to the Metal Gear Solid 3 3D remake in sales, yea that'd be a good comparison

No official numbers. His statement is as credible as me saying Nintendo told me NSMBW sold 100 million copies.

And only Nintendo games have beaten CoD in sales. Those aren't nearly as impressive even if they were true.
