Analysis: The Covenant (from the 'Halo' franchise): The Covenant Empire is the most powerful force in the known universe. Their technology is unmatched by any other race in existence. Their army numbers in the tens of millions. They have the power to destroy entire planets, and entire civilizations. Crossing paths with the Covenant spells certain doom. They kill their enemies quickly, rather than take prisoners. ____________________________ Analysis: The Locust Horde (from the 'Gears of War' series): And enemy, not from outside, but from within the planet of Sera's crust. A Locust Horde surprise attack on humanity (from below) wipes out a quarter of the human population in just 26 hours. The Locust Horde may not have superior technology, but they have far superior numbers and countless advantages, such as being able to sink entire cities into the ground. With many different species of fearsome creatures at their command, and unimaginably brutal and cruel ways of torture, the Locust Horde is an enemy to be greatly feared. My answer: the Locust Horde. I swear, they make the Covenant look like Teddy Bears singing on top of a Rainbow on a sunny day :P

Covenant. They are a highly conflicted race that are lead by crazy prophets, that alone makes them engaging to me. The Locust were awesome in Gears 1 and 2, don't know why they got the stepchild treatment compared to the boring Lambent in Gears 3. Also, in Gears 1 and 2, you can methodically wipe out a portion of the Locust at the end of every game. Gears 3 should have felt like the ultimate victory at the end, instead it felt like a cheat button to win instantly and made the entire campaigns of the first two games feel useless.

Thanks mostly to the first two Halos having some whack character models.

Watch it.... I ain't played Gears 3 yet :P But come on.... you saw how awful their forms of torture were in Gears 2.... that alone makes me find the Covenant less frightening, because I would choose instant death over long torture any day. And hey, the Locust are insane too....... they worship worms :P

Don't worry, I'm a stickler for spoilers, I won't spoil anything important. Considering Gears 2 takes place mostly underground for its middle section, I was expecting some more frightening things, but at least they
broke Tai, which I was heartbroken to see because he looked to be a great character that wasn't explained enough. I know there's comics about him, but I don't read comics
. I'm actually not sure what you mean about Locusts and worms (you mean Covenant?) Personally, I like the prophets and what little real-world analogies they provide, with their strange dictatorships. The one boss fight you have with a prophet in Halo 2 made me lol every time I got to
smack the sh!t out of that fool
. If only Bungie didn't make their campaigns feel so gamey at moments, they could have been even better. Nonetheless, I love Halo campaigns and stories, so it's all good on my end.

Seeing as neither are an alien race I'd have to say.... NEITHER!

Locust are inhabitants of the same planet.... the live underground... or do you call earthworms aliens too?

The Covenant are a group of alien races, not a single alien race. The Covenant is a religion.

When I said that the Locust worship worms, that was not a typo, I really meant the Locust Horde. I'm guessing that you did not find any of the hidden notes that were in Gears 2's campaign......... there is a potential spoiler from Gears 2 in the spoiler tag below.
See, in Gears 2's campaign Acts, there are a few pieces of paper hidden in some of the games locations, most of them are Journal entries from Baird (surprisingly)...... ALL the these Journal entries that are found in the Hollow, Baird wrote about how he keeps finding Locust symbols, and that when these symbols are translated, they speak about "The Trinity of Worms" and the Locust worship of Worms. Apparently, the Riftworm (the giant worm from Gears 2) was like a God to the Locust.
Yeah, I really didn't bother getting any intel outside of the first game. Actually didn't know that, but wow, consider me a little more interested in the Locust mythos. Also, go for Gears 3's campaign, it's not bad by any means. It starts off so slowly and has too much Lambent, but it definitely hits its stride in lots of spots. I always tell myself I'll go through Gears again (my HDD corrupted for some reason, so I lost lots of achievements), but I only got through the first again. At least it's the best one.

Two random facts about the Locusts. - They breed by raping female locusts. Females are Berserkers. Think twice about spanking dat ass. - The reason why Lancers are equipped with a chainsaw, is because Locusts have very thick skin. Even chainsawing them may blind you from skin splinters flying in your eyes. Another reason why the COG wear helmets.

To be honest? Hell no. Gears 3 honestly left a lot of series questions open like (kind of spoiler since I'm sure you wanted closure on this too)
why the Queen is a f*cking human being
They also leave some character's interpretations completely open-ended, and not in the good way, including one blatantly stupid mistake that somehow got by Epic's entire story department (lol, those words don't seem to go together well) Also, Jace. Goddamn do I dislike Jace.

I never doubted Gears 3's potential. I heard a lot of people say that it was bad but I do not care, I want to play it........ and although I don't really like the Lambent too much (its annoying when they explode after they are killed), i'm still going for it, regardless. Gears 1 spoiler ahead.
I'm... just CURIOUS....... in the first Gears game, at the end, after you killed RAAM, and you heard the queen talking about how humans are ignorant and how they don't know why the Locust fight the war and why they cannot stop..... in a simple yes or no answer...... does Gears 3 bring closure to this question ?
To be honest? Hell no. Gears 3 honestly left a lot of series questions open like (kind of spoiler since I'm sure you wanted closure on this too)
why the Queen is a f*cking human being
They also leave some character's interpretations completely open-ended, and not in the good way, including one blatantly stupid mistake that somehow got by Epic's entire story department (lol, those words don't seem to go together well) Also, Jace. Goddamn do I dislike Jace.

I did not read the spoiler tag.... you understand .... I hope ...... But i'm still going for Gears 3. Even if the story suffers from plot holes (as most seem to do these days), i'm still gonna play it......

Playing through Resistance 1 right now. Dat pre-CoD feel.

Dontcha just love it? :P

I play a lot differently than I'm supposed to, I put it on Easy and literally run-n-gun. Surprisingly, the Chimera are still pretty resilient. The story breaks up the flow a lot, but I'm not skipping it in order to set up the latter games in the series. Corridors can be bland oftentimes and other times they have detail. I'd put it at a 7.5 or an 8.

Humans are scattered throughout the galaxy in Halo and at times have the opportunity to run from the Covenant. The people of Sera are trapped with the Locust and are more likely to be attacked at any given time. Also, the Covenant may have arguably superior weaponry, but they don't have an assortment of crazed 10-ton monsters at their disposal and rarely use torture on their enemies.

If you had played Halo 3, ODST, or Reach (especially Reach), you would have seen the full might of the Covenant. They are very much to be feared.

Ugh the Covenant would easily win....is that what the questions is asking?

EDIT: More fearsome? generally i would say the locust. However an 8ft cloaked Covenant Elite in a dark hallway with an energy sword can be quite "Terrifying".

Halo has the more dangerous enemies because of their technology but Gears has the more scary/freaky enemies just by appearance. I would crap my pants far more seeing a brumak or a berserker then any brute.
