I'm sure we have all read the IGN Preview of the Wii version, and when I first read it I had mixed feelings. I thought it was cool, an adult title that earns the term "adult" through gorey deaths and whatnot, I love violent games because it is a great outlet for anger and frustration, but I am a pacifist 100% and in no way a violent person. To me the manhunt 2 debate is at it's core about when corporate responsobility ends and personal responsibilty comes in, and in some ways this is a murder simulator, and it has the potential of causing harm, but is that enough reason alone to ban a game?

To make a comparison I am going to bring up the pronography industry. Many of the same things about Manhunt 2 can be said about hardcore porn. Hardcore porn is meant to simulate sex and to glorify it, and by masterbating we choose to actively be a part of the experience. And a lot of people to this day believe that by watching porn that people can become sexual deviants or rapists, yet porn is an outlet for sexual frustration felt by some and usually keeps them from becoming rapists.

The major complaint against the wii version is that due to its controller design you are a more active participant in the actions that unfold on screen, but the thing is, the player doesnt have to execute the enemy in an extremely violent manner, the player can take the dude out in a less violent form if they choose to. It's all fantasy and people old enough to purchase the game are able to seperate fantasy from reality.

This game shouldnt be banned because banning a game means that we are giving the government the opportunity to decide what is artistic and that is a direct violation of the first constitution and no matter how small of a violation of that right may be it is unamerican.

I actually glanced through the post and I have to say, pressing a couple of buttons to kill people, even if you have to make the vauge motions with your hands in no way shape or form comes close to simulating reality. That would be like saying in Red Steel you can really learn how to fight with swords.

Yeah but I dont think all of those countries have freedom of speech, and I didnt say we would loose an american right I was just saying that it would be unconstitutional, and in this country when we equate corporations as human beings it is a form of losing a right.

This guy seems to be the king of the anti-Manhunt 2 threads.

I agree with the tc. There are tons of racing games on the market and tons of steering wheel peripherals but I don't see people saying that those things cause people to kill others with automobiles by simulating their favorite racing game by racing down the road. I guess people will say that boxing in wii sports makes them heavy weight contenders.

I am, it's official.

I'm just tired of seeing this pop up in a new thread. There's a thread dedicated to this so why doesn't everyone just post in there.

Oh wait...

...this is a forum. I forgot.

Who cares about waving the wiimote around like a crowbar. People have been killing people with "per se" weapons for years. If you really wanted to kill someone in this manner, chances are you would have thought of it when you saw your pop's ax or pitchfork hanging in the garage. No one is going to magically get the idea to do this when they wave the wiimote, unless they are a young impressionable child, and they shouldnt have access to the game anyway due to the rating system.

Well one is Australia, and I believe Germany will ban it (they banned Gears of War). Japan and England are other possible places.

These countries, which have banned games before, are democratic societies with freedom of speech. I'm afriad you are making too big a deal out of a video game. If I really, really worked on it, I'll produce a list of CDs, albums, paintings, books, articles, magazines, and video games banned IN THIS COUNTRY for centuries. And guess what, we have grown more progressive and powerful, not the reverse. I'm almost insulted you have little understanding of our legal system, and you give Manhunt 2 too much credit for being so "symbolically important to liberty"

I'm not giving the game any symbollic importance, hell to me it's like the hostel movies and I cant stand those movies, what I'm saying is that saying Manhunt 2 will make serial killers out of all those who pick it up is just not logical, and yeah, sure it may be banned in other countries that are democratic and have a form of free speech but my point is that having a freedom of speech clause and banning something is a contradiction especially in this country where it is so strongly cared of. True this country has banned albums, books, and other forms of media, but does that make it right? Yeah, sure we have progressed, but to what? A society in which we vote more for pop singers than presidents, has the least efficient educational system, health care that is nearly unaffordable by most who need it, and a corporation is treated like a human entety, is that really progress?
