  • Characters
  • Changing thrends in the industry
  • Or anything else you find worth naming

You name it. List it here

To me personally I find that the Sonic games have just fallen so far over the years. The DS ones are decent though.

Square Enix as a company that has just been a continuously let down compared to what the former to used to be in my opinion. Going on year 4 of this generation and what do they have to speak of? Very little in comparison to their past.

I still enjoy Sonic so I wouldnt say he's "fallen" more like he's tripping here and there. Square Enix in my opinion were cranking out crap since the oh so overrated FF7. Kingdom Hearts 1 is the only good that comes to mind though FF10-2 was ok. If I could add anything here, Id say lack of originality is hurting gaming as well.

The fall of a Nintendo as a majority when the PS1 was released.

The fall of a Sony majority when the Wii was released.

The day we started with fake screens and fake gameplay video's.
Paying for online adsupported service.
The major hardware problems with 360 should be in this list.
The copycats (WoW and WW2 era).
Releasing unfinished games (patches).
The sales of Clover studio and co.
The curse of the moviegames, and the shovelware sales back in the days.
I'm really tired but that list could go on and on and on. Probably that's why i didn't read You typed modern. If i would know that, i would make another list. Luckily i can fall asleep peacefully now covered with warm ignorance.

Ow and i hope we will go back to solid state storage for games now that it has become much cheaper.

I will judge Square when FFXIII comes out. Otherwise I'm very pleased with the love they've been showing all the consoles and handhelds lately. And FFXII was my favorite FF.

FF12 right? Yeah I liked how the gameplay was new for the series. Square should really consider making more live action rpgs.

I think gaming as as good as ever....so no fall from grace IMO.. I think what i do miss is that there is NO Blackisle and that my favorite genre(First Person Shooters) are in dire need of an innovator....the games are still great, highly polished, but very few games are moving the genre forward in any productive way...

In fact i want that same concept for most genres. This gens biggest flaw is that nothing has truly moved something forward Are games better than last gen yes....they are more refined and more polished overall(minus those that need patches)....but no one game is a revolutionary game.....

Sony's fall from grace is by far the most staggering. Going from nearly 70% market share to less then 20% is just insane.

The only good Sonic games were done in 2D. SE has quite a few AAA handheld games this year.

I am disappointed in the direction Nintendo has taken.

Square ENIX has been cranking out crap since prob around FF11. FF7,8,9 ARE the ULIMATES in the series, especially ff7. If you think FF7 is overrated, everything else must be super overrated.

TWEWY, Crisis Core, Agito, Parasite Eve, CT port. KH for DS and PSP, Dissidia. These all look like promising games. It's a shame they can't make their 360 games work out, so many bugs. Otherwise I hear LR was pretty alright.

What the HECK is up with square enix? I used to buy games based on seeing the little "Sqare Enix" logo on the box. Now I actually have to investigate and consider when buying Square Enix games? That is just wrong. Also, we need Black Isle back. If I ever win the lottery, who cares about personal gain, I'll just hand over all the money to the Black Isle head and say "please... save us... please........"

Biggest fall from grace is 3D Realms... How is it possible to be working on a game for eleven years? The original Duke Nukem 3D was so awesome. But right now they're working on a game that's still using the Unreal Engine.

Black Isle made alot of PC RPGs that are considered some of the best games of all time (Fallout, Baldur's Gate, Planescape: Torment). I'm currently playing through some of these right now for my first time and even 10 years after they came out they're still amazing! But for some reason Black Isle isn't around anymore... And another thing with Square, now that you mention KH3! What is up with Square Enix and spin offs lately? We got KH spinoff coming to PSP and KH spinoff coming to DS... ok, cool, but WHERE'S KH3? It seems lately instead of actually making the next game in the series, they instead want to remake/spinoff their big franchises instead, which I hate!

Midway Games (Mortal Kombat in particular) - - - - - - - - Maker of many of the mid 90s best games. Mortal Kombat along with Street Fighter revolutionized fighting games and brought us into Golden Ages of arcade gaming. MK spawned a couple of major movies. NBA Jam. NFL Blitz. And developer & publisher of many more. In the end, they turned into a terrible studio, trying hard to scrape at their former glory. Desperately trying to milk their old franchises, while lacking the talent necessary to help those IP's take evolutionary steps forward. In their sad demise, they were sold for $100,000. with $70 million worth of debt. SEGA (Sonic, especially) - - - - - - - - Sega was once bizarro Nintendo, proclaiming that they'd do everything Nintendo wouldn't. I remember a time when if you wanted to play games with blood in them, SEGA was the console for you. They brought us Sonic, VF, and scores of other titles. They have now effectively killed Sonic approx. 10 years after they killed their final console. SEGA hasn't been this irrelevant since the mid 80s. Rare (Joanna Dark, especially) - - - - - - - - It's simply impossible to not consider Rare's fall a fall from grace, as they were THE BAR. The standard in the late 90s to which all other developers aspired to be. Team defections to new games studios took away some of Rare's critical brain and talent trust. They still have the same coding talent, but only half of the vision, it seems. They've not been a AAA developer since the late 90s...and the feeling of lack gamers have without the real Rare is real, as gamers continue to get excited about Rare games...while continuing to be disappointed. And yea, Perfect Dark Zero was far, far from what it's predecessor was 10 years ago. Nintendo (N64 relative to marketshare) - - - - - - - - The N64 as the follow-up to best-selling 16-bit console SNES was not a failure in exclusive game library, which boasted some of the very of that era, but failed to retain the massive amount of developers that made its parent system such a success. The N64's cartridge approach was shunned by developers who found a much cheaper CD medium that worked just as well in the PlayStation...and after they left, many never truly came back to Nintendo. Even a decade later. The design choices and arrogance that created what we knew as the N64 cost Nintendo the huge marketshare they spent 2 generations building, allowed for Sony to become the dominant figure in console gaming for nearly 15 years and costs them the best in 3rd party support to this very day. And whether Wii and GameCube owners/fanboys will admit it or not, Nintendo consoles have been hurting for good 3rd party exclusives ever since. Look no further than the N64 as your reason why the GameCube went through and the Wii goes through such long droughts. And why the 3rd party market for Wii games is so unimpressive. Sony PlayStation 3 - - - - - - - - The console that was once heralded as "uber" proved to be anything but. The summary of many disappointments, the PlayStation 3 appears to be on the same track as the N64 was: good console with some really impressive software...but a console that will cost Sony the marketshare that they too spent 2 generations growing. A console that pushes developers to other consoles and away from theirs. Indeed, the PS3 is following up a pair of Sony consoles that sold literally in the hundreds of millions. At this point in its life, it's lost roughly 70% of the marketshare the PS2 had at this point in its lifespan...with little signs of doing significantly better. As this generation turns towards the finish line, Sony and its fans are forced to wonder what went wrong and why. High prices, weak marketing, difficulty in programming, tough economic times, Blu-ray diode delays and superior competition (relative to lastGen) are where to look. The PS3 is a jack of all trades...but a master of only Blu-ray playback. Factor (4.)5 - - - - - - - - Maker of fantastic games in times past, this studio decided to make the garbage that was Lair. The losses suffered financially from the Lair investment eventually killed the company this Fall. A reminder that the high costs of development this gen mean that one big failure can mean even long-standing developers might buckle.
