I ve heard this statement over and over again, and its just redicoulos because the people that use it have no idea what they are talking about.

The truth is that Gameplay=graphics. If a person wants to experience true next gen gameplay they need the graphics to go along with it, because good graphics is essential for a good game experience and helps to draw the player more and more into the game. The stupid statement , "I prefer gameplay over graphics" is just a made up sh#$t by stupid sheep fanboys that arent getting the graphics that ps3 and 360 are offering.

I own a PC and a 360. I do not own a Wii. I prefer gameplay to graphics. Get over yourself.myke2010

I also prefer gameplay to graphics and I'm not a sheep. I own all the next-gen consoles plus a pretty decent PC.

graphics though a big part, is not the only factor or the necessary factor. it adds to the enjoyment of the game.

Not really. I just was playing Super Mario World and I enjoyed it just as much as any pretty and good playing current gen game.

I still play some of my old DOS games have a lot of fun with them because they have awesome gameply.

Great gameplay can make bad graphics forgivable

ONLY gameplay can make a game amazing. Graphics can make a game better, but no matter how good a game looks it still depends on gameplay to make the experience fun.

Like I said in another thread, Tetris and Mario are far superior to most modern games due to outstanding gameplay.

Games that rely on graphics do so due to limited gameplay.

Many games can be AAA w/ poor graphics but NO games can be AAA with poor gameplay.

Now You seriously belive that that gem with medicore graphics would of worked? Good graphics contribute to the overall feeling, of the gameplay and that is absolutely necessery.

I wouldn't agree with that - most Infocom games are more enjoyable than a game with graphics but no gameplay (I can't think of an example of one at the moment).

China Warrior had mind-blowing graphics for its time. That made it an awesome game, right?

Graphics HELP a game to be good, they don't MAKE it good. If I want pure visual splendour, I'll watch some movies or something.

The graphics in Bioshock don't effect the gameplay, they effect the atmosphere.

And there have been games with great atmosphere before now... It's just getting easyer to make games with great atmosphere, because of how powerful graphics cards are...

Point taken, but Text Adventures still ruin your "Graphics=Gameplay" argument.

Here's a question for you.

Would you rather have

a) A game with mediocre gameplay and mediocre graphics.

b) A game with great graphics, but glitchy and not at all entertaining.

c) A game that entertains greatly, providing the right amount of challenge, and keeping the gamer hooked, but has blocky and monochromatic graphics.

By your reasoning, b) and c) are equal, but when I look at them, I see b) as being "Bomberman: Act Zero", while c) sounds like Frogger, Donkey Kong, WARP, or Area Flat 2.
