I was kind of curious what you guys the gamers want as far as features/hardware/price in the next consoles from MS, Sony or Nintendo? Here are a few things that I want....

1. Higher quality gaming experiences. Yes, Im talking to you IW and Treyarch. We dont need a new CoD every year!

2. 720p and 60 fps standard non of this 540p crap like in MW2, Reach and other games!

3. 500 GB HDD minimum

4. a larger digital distibution service...i.e. STEAM

5. dedicated online servers especially if Im paying for XBL or PSN!

6. Learn from Sony's error. $500 has to be the ceiling for the retail. Nobody in their right mind will pay $600 for a console.

  1. Never going to happen
  2. Didnt Sony promise this? Never going to happen
  3. Lol, never going to happen. Took them 6 years to reach 320GB
  4. Bandwidth caps.
  5. Nope, up to the dev/publisher
  6. So 500GB, 720p, 60 FPS, DD, for less than $500? Is this a joke?

this isn't that difficult- hes asking what you'd like to see from the next-gen consoles.

- i dont want to pay for extras. with online and DD becoming a bigger deal on consoles it should be possible to have people who do want those extras to pay for and download them seperately. so i want a console that, out of the box, just plays games online and off with an online store. thats it. reduce the price accordingly. i dont want to be paying for DVD or blu-ray licences (thats about 30-40 quid of the consoles price i think) as i have exactly 0 interest in having those features in the console. with them made as paid for extra features, the manufacturer can either get a specialist company in to do those features or can spend more time doing them properly also. - put and end to the traditional controller. its old, its limited and it was made for different types of games than what were seeing today on consoles. i dont want to see a console with it at all next gen...i want new stuff and new ideas. - more ram. ram is cheap. i dont know why manufacturers keep skimping on it. if the 360 had 1 less CPU core and even just an extra 256MB of ram it would clearly be the more powerful console. its cheap and it makes a huge difference in what devs can do. even if ninty are aiming for just PS3 level of performance then id still like to see at least 768MB of ram..preferably 1GB. if sony and MS are doing the usual 10X as powerful i want to see at least 4GB of ram...but preferably 6GB. - use of more industry standard parts. weird architectures and custom built weirdness should be over now. in the end its us, the customer, who pays for it. sony seem to be thinking that now...using standard CPUs and GPUs in the NGP which is great. even ninty are half poking the idea...the 3DS using something kinda standard compliant. hopefully the wii2 will also keep weirdness to a minimum hardware wise (at least in terms of getting good performance..the controller is a different issue). basically instead of thinking "max performance..cheat lie and steal for max performance" they should be thinking "i want to make a good and easy to develop for DX11 or openGL4 box" or something like that. - 720P back in as a requirement. this gen sony and MS initally had that as a requirement but dropped it when they discovered that neither box is up to the job of delivering it consistently. this gen it should be back and stick. i expect ninty to also have the same requirement. again if there aiming for Ps3 and 360 levels then they should be thinking "were goign to do what they tried but do it properly this time". im sure behind the scenes ninty are well aware of where devs were happy with the PS3 and 360 and where they really relly hated them. the wii2 shouldnt have the same complaints. 60FPS optional though. - game prices do not rise. a new gen is not an excuse to hike them up....its 60 max. - id also like to see a more tiered pricing structure from publishers. at the mo its basically 60 quid or nothing which is very limited. then they go to the other extreme of 15-20 quid for online stuff. theres a big bracker for 30,40 and 50 dollar games thats only being served by the second hand market really. not ever game has to be the 60million blockbuster...make a game for 20 million thats a bit more niche and sell it for 35 quid. find a neglected niche (hint hint space sims) and try and fill the gap some some good stuff. trying to appeal to the mainstream is important..theres money to be made there. only focusing on the mainstream is again limiting though. - bit of a pipe dream this....but release dev tools for everyone. id like to see this from all 3. of course control the official content but let people play with the hardware themselves also. they dont have to be the same as what licencees get of course..but something would be nice. MS sorta do this with XNA...thats giving people the same access as arcade developers. sony did let people play with the cell in the PS3 but then removed it. ninty of course lock everything down. - no installs. thats PC territory and makes consoles that bit more complex to use. get the storage tech right in the first place. - patching is a necessary evil on consoles due to online play. however theres no excuse for bug fixing...they should be as close to bug free as possible at launch. crash bugs, performance problems....the manufacturers and publishers should be claming down in it. this gen QA has slipped on consoles. - speaking of QA...the consoles need to be properly tested. RROD on the scale that it was on is simply not good enough. not being able to fix it until the 360S was released is not good enough. sony dont get off scot free either...early PS3 models also liked to bust their chips. not good enough. ninty do get off scot free here...the wii has generally been bullet proof in terms of reliability :P. just a couple of minor issues with dual layer discs. there will always be some failure but it shouldnt be any higher than 1%. thats whats demanded of most electronics and consoles shouldnt be exempt.
