@ReadingRainbow4: I played that one and I have fond memories of it. Wasn't that a fuchikoma there, though? See, sometimes we can find some common ground. It's not like I'm writing off Japan. I just dislike formulaic JRPGs with homogenized animu style but that's it.

that game had such awesome combat, sticking to walls and dashing sliding all over the place, I'd love a modern take on the gameplay in that.

Ghost in the Shell is NOT Weeaboo, it has no underage looking characters in high school drama, nor colorful! It's an Anime more manly than Dragon Ball Z!

@funsohng was once Weeaboo in the PS2 era, but he found greatness in Western Media in terms of TV as Anime become too focus on being for weeaboos ;)

If this was an Ergo Proxy game and not Ghost in the Shell, I be all over this game. Also Ghost in the Shell was never a Weeaboo to begin with when the first movie came to the Western.

Ghost in the Shell predates Deus ex by nearly a decade, and the first Ghost in the Shell video game was released 3 years before Deus Ex.

@FireEmblem_Man: It's a mystery to me why there aren't more dark, edgy, perverse games in Japan taking cues from classics like Akira, GITS, Neo Genesis Evangelion, etc. It seems that the collective mood has shifted away from these towards something typically described as "weeaboo".

How is that Ghost in the Shell label as a Weeaboo? Anything that comes from Manga isn't Weeaboo at all.

I love the Ghost in the Shell franchise for the movies, the two seasons of Stand Alone Complex, the Stand Alone Complex movie, and the recent Arise series. That being said. I first saw it was a Ghost in the Shell game my jaw dropped (like this is awesome kind of initial response), then that high went to a low-low when it showed itself to be a rather unremarkable looking competitive shooter. Fucking hell. My day feels ruined. Anyhow, wouldn't go calling Ghost in the Shell weeaboo simply because it's Japanese. I find it very accessible as a westerner.

At least they are using the Motoko everyone likes and not that awful new one that looks like an anorexic teenage boy. BTW, this game is being made by some China company that nobody has ever heard off, so it's not exactly "weaboo", which is a term that describes people obsessed with Japan.

You guys who use that idiotic word to associate ANYTHING even remotely Japanese need to find a new word to misuse.

Most people slinging around the term Weeaboo actually have no idea how to use it properly.

You're a prime example of someone who doesn't know what he's talking about. The word is meant to describe someone who only sees value and worth in Japanese media and art, not someone who might happen to like a Japanese game or some anime.

Suggesting people are being "confronted" with the misuse of the word is just trolling or plain ignorant on your part. I don't know anybody who frequents this forum that would fit in the weaboo category. The simple truth is, xenophobic posters (mostly lemmings or hermits) have adopted and abused that word with the sole purpose of annoying anyone who even slightly likes Japanese games or even mentions them here.

I would be so into this game if it was a squad based shooter, not some cod all of clone. The entire hud looks very cod-ish.

Meanings aside, weeaboo has just become a derogatory term for anime stuff and people enjoy said stuff. It's used primarily by hermits and lemmings against cows because the vast majority of PS4 games (or at least the games cows hype) are either directly inspired by an anime or have heavy anime themes. I was actually using the term sarcastically here, I'm a big fan of Ghost in the Shell. Using the term weeaboo to describe Ghost in the Shell or something like Dark Souls would be silly, but it's not a far shot to call something like SAO or the Persona series weeabooish.

It really doesn't have anything to do with xenophobia either. Lemmings and hermits use the insult because it usually stirs a response to make fun of anime. You do have to admit a good majority of identified PS4 gamers have anime sigs and profile pics...
