3D, holograms etc.

I hope that gaming doesn't abandon its past completely though, I still want to play 2D games and less technically compelled and invovling experiences too. I hope the industry can keep all the options open and not let them die.

Just what I was thinking. Either that, or a helmet you put on and it puts you inside the game, until you take the helmet off.

this seems like the most logical step to me. Would allow gamers to overcome physical button limitations. We all know probably tens of thousands of words and a virtually limitless amount of word combinations... which can be alot more efficient than hitting hotkeys.

At first i could see voice controls helping to bridge the gap between controllers and keyboards... but eventually allowing us to exceed those limitations.

Somebody will probably make

touch screen tvs

holograms

or

you walk into a small room then it looks bigger inside like the tardis then you play eg. your in a football pitch and you can do multiplayer or single match and you can see other players and you play a match at the end . The ball disapears and the players do then you walk out.

This is basically a 10times improved version of kinect and 3d with no galases

probably come in 200 years

i got this idea from some show called galactic football

I'm not too sure about touch screen TVs. People are already too lazy to get up and change the channel if they can't find the remote. I don't see why they would want to get up and go to the TV screen to touch it.

I don't think motion controls are really taking us anywhere else, they will become integrated into normal controls and maybe touch screens may find their way onto tradional controllers but they aren't replacing gamepads any time soon. 3D will remain optional as long as glasses are required, there are too many people that do not like it or cannot use it.

True. I dont expect it to kill the gamepad but i expect it to be implimented in the same sense next gen alot like how N64 brought along the analog controller to mainstream and then in PS2 / GC / Xbox eraas a standard control scheme among all consoles.

I think, overall, motion control is a gimmick. So I'm hoping that the "next big thing" in gaming has nothing to do with motion control. Motion control is trumped by a regular, no-frills, old-fashioned controller.

It'll be at least 2 more generations before that even hits technophile's radar. I got to see a demo of a 3D hologram from a company that has contracts from some big names to develop the tech, and it was still just one color.

True in certain sense. Motion controls will really be big when we get traditional genre games that control in 3-D and not simply the old 2-D trick that the mouse has been pulling for over a decade. Now they are just popular tacked on gimmicks.

I think it would be cool. If they continue with Motion Controls and adds in voice controls. Well Voice Control is still sort've in its infancy because it takes a lot of programming to get the voice controls right some games last gen with voice controls were horrible.

The Famicom in Japan the second player Controller had a mic so you can talk and in the Japanese version of Legend of Zelda you can say something to kill the Pols Voices. Then a 3rd Party created a Headset for the NES where you talk and the characters get hurt the AVGN tested it on the Duck Hunt he said the F word and it actually worked killing the Ducks in Duck Hunt.

2D might techinically be dated but I don't think it at all hinders the ability to create great games. Same with not using super advanced tech for every game. I mean, this gen has seen a kind of resurgence in 2D, I just don't want that to die because of the flashy new things tech lets us do.

The future of gaming is the Microvision!

Each game on the Microvision had its own peripheral and as we all know you can't play every game with motion control (Wii-more/Move), you can't play every game without a controller (Kinect/Eyetoy) and the same with the traditional controller... But what if the consoles had more than just one way to be played? That is the future and we are seeing a glimpse of it right now.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

PS3 has Eye-toy, Move, Dual-Shock and 3D

X360 has Kinect and traditional controller

Wii has the Wii-mote, traditional controller and Balance boards

On top of all this add the peripherals of games like Guitar Hero/Rockband, etc.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This will radically affect the game development of next gen games because devs will no longer have the need to think how to make the game work with certain type of controller because the controller will be made for the kind of game that they will be creating. 8)

Yes I know there are many problems with my theory, this is just a simple thought.

How about focusing on the actual games instead of the way we control them? Or is the industry so creatively bankrupt, that we have to slap gimmicks on top of everything to make the experience appear fresher?

Controls should be something we don't think about, as they are just a means of getting the game to do what you want it to.

I definitely agree with the last part of your post and that's something people have forgotten these days. We shouldn't be thinking about our controllers when playing just like we shouldn't think about putting one foot in front of the other when walking; it should feel natural. When I used to play World of Warcraft hardcore against other players and used at least 40-keybindings, I never used to think during fights "hmm how do I do this again?" I thought of doing something....and it just happened.

Imagine every game coming with this little box of smells that plugs into a designed slot on your console and during gameplay it gets sprayed out. Of course it would probably only have enough smell to last maybe one play through or so.

Lol theres a really good nvidia demo which trys to make realistic hair, the only problem is it looks like theres no gravity so it just bounces too much
