The only way anyone will choose the Series X over the PS5 is if MS prices it $400

It's sad that MS's only gameplan is to just make the thing slightly more powerful than the competition. I'll tell you right now that no one cares about raw power. We've seen it time and time again where the most powerful console doesn't sell well. Usually it's because of the price and if MS launches with the most expensive console again, everyone will turn to Sony. Casuals don't give a shit about power nor exclusives...it will come down to price.

Would be interesting if MS is willing to eat some hardware cost to get people into their ecosystem. Seem unlikely though

It's a natural upgrade for people that are currently on the XB1 just like how PS5 will be a natural upgrade for people on PS4. It's the best way to ensure you're keeping your library of games, DLC etc.

I’m really thinking that the Xbox Series X is going to be $500 USD and I’m certainly fine with paying that for it. If they manage to price it cheaper then that then I most definitely wouldn’t mind that either of course.

I mainly play on PlayStation so the PS5 is a day one buy for me, but eventually I’ll buy an Xbox Series X too.

xbox will do fine and the ps5. there is only 3 competitors in console gaming so it's not that much competition. 4 if you include pc gamer but there not a console gamer.

people will buy what they like

I'm in there day one, they made a very appealing system this time around. Between MS and Sony I make my choice based on where I'd like to play my multiplats that gen, Xbox has a huge edge because I'm all nostalgic for Halo now.

It's so wonderful to have money to burn and not having to worry which one to get but having to choose which will be first and end up with several because there are collector's editions.

@lifelessablaze: Its bizarre that you should say that making xsx more powerful is MS's only gameplan. It wasnt even a plan...they had no idea what Sony intended, they just aimed higher.

Price is important yes. Very important...but the only gameplan Sony has is to produce more sp story driven games. That's the only reason I have to get a ps5, and as much as I'd enjoy another handful of 3rd person open world games, it's not reason enough to buy a console.

Let ms reveal what those 18 studios have been working on, and that along with better BC, gamepass, better controller, better online with better offers, ms points, play anywhere and a more powerful console mean I'll gladly pay $100 more than a ps5 which just sounds muddled so far.

I'll eventually end up having both, but for me the question is which one to get 1st? I'm guessing that is the question of majority of gamers rather than which console to stick to.

@sealionact:

But the question is:

Is everyone else going to see it that way? With the huge success of the ps4, the only way I can (possibly) see the SeX being more successful is for the price to be either cheaper or the same. Even then, Sony have it's blockbuster exclusives under it's belt.

@ermacness: Why does everyone have to see it that way? Some will buy a ps5 for those games, some will buy an xsx for those games, most will buy one or the other for a combination or variety of reasons. Exclusives dont sell consoles on their own, their have to be more reasons...and right now ms are offering more reasons.

People will buy the XSeX that enjoy Xbox IPs. Cost won't play a roll in their fan base buying one. It will simply dictate WHEN they buy one.

Microsoft has poised the XSeX to be competitive. They have their long running IPs, impressive hardware, backwards compatibility, consumer friendly XCloud program AND they have a bunch of upcoming unknown IPs in the works from all those studios they recently bought.

I applaud Microsoft for learning from their mistakes with X1 and late 360 lifespan.

The more competitive Microsoft is, the more competitive Sony must become. This is a win for both camps. Competition breeds a striving for excellence from most companies.

Yeah that bold part make no sense what so ever.

If they didn't know what sony intended how could they aim higher?

That second bold part is even more pathetic is just fanboy bullshit,it 2020 online play doesn't save games from socking ass,and MS has a truck load of those.

And the 3rd part is a collection of garbage opinions + one or to facts.

For example better controller, that is based on taste and more people like the DS than the xbox controller for generations now, adding better BC as some kind of selling point when the switch and PS4 non have BC and scorched the xbox in sales, new consoles are about new games not old ones.

Better online again taste, but services are about the same shit, and have about the same offerts as well.

About the only thing i can give you is gamerpass because as of now has newer games, but you don't know if sony deside to run newer games, after all gamepass is a copy of PS now.

Oh plase you gladly payed $100 more for the weaker shittier xbox one and like it.

Who are you fooling.

@tormentos: Seriously dude, this is adults talking. I know your first language isnt English so I'll at least explain phrases that you're not familiar with. "Aim higher" doesn't necessarily mean higher than a competitor. Aim higher with your life, your ambitions, your products. Ms aimed for a 12 tflp console, Sony aimed for a 9.2 tflp console then overclocked it.

I cant even follow your raging answer...the second part you put in bold has nothing to do with MS online. It was about what Sony is offering in answer to MS. They're doing what they've always done...1st party exclusives. More story driven exclusives....more of the same type of games that Sony produced this gen.

The only game that dared to be different this gen was Dreams, and that sadly flopped.

Out of that list above, theres two genuinely good games. Is that enough of a reason to buy a console? Because Sony are behind on every single other aspect.

No, services are not "about the same". Sony cut the number of free games in half for psn, and this month they were so abysmal that Sony fans are petitioning to get them changed. Gamepass is part of services. So is play anywhere....its already streets ahead of what Sony is offering, and now ms have announced that xcloud will be part of Gamepass.

Of course all this cant be good for myopic (look it up..) fanboys like you, but it's great for gamers who just want a good deal.

Now go get your shoe box.

I am expecting $500 myself, willing to pay it. They have a 2 year payment plan option that includes 2 years of Game Pass Ultimate, deducting that value the system comes to around $480 through that option.

Well MS is currently offering more now, and the lead only grew in favor of the ps4. Right now, the only thing the ps4 pro have over the x1x

are exclusives. If the SeX cost more than the ps5, unless Sony completely shoot themselves in the foot, this holiday will more than likely be more if an uphill battle for MS than Sony.

I think the Pro and XoneX are great examples that more power at a higher price point doesn't always sell...especially when there is a cheaper alternative that provides a very similar experience (PS4 Slim and X1S)

We also have to remember that the economy around the globe isn't very good right now, I don't see a lot of people dropping $500 plus on a game console this year. At least not as many as in years past.

I think if the PS5 is $100 less expensive it will sell better, regardless of power. However I think if the X1S and PS4 get a permanent price drop to $199 I think those will be the biggest holiday sellers.

Sheeeit.

If I didn't have a PC I'd go with the Series X just for the form factor. With that design it should be quiet. Plus Game Pass is awesome. So is cross play/save.

I'm sure I'll end up with a PS5 at some point so I can play 1 or 2 games. Sony sucks.

@ermacness: Its up to the individuals obviously....but like I said, price is very important. Xbox lost a lot of sales by launching at 100 bucks more expensive, and x1x was more expensive than pro.

Personally I dont think exclusives convince more than 10 - 20 percent of gamers....which is why they generally sell to less than 10 percent of console owners, while the biggest games are nearly always 3rd party AAA games....as long as a console isnt missing out on those, most people are happy. Price and other features account for more sales, as a recent poll told us.

That's ~25% when RX 5700 XT actually need 560 GB/s memory bandwidth to scale from RX 5700 while your beloved PS5's GPU is gimped by 5700/5700 XT's 448GB/s memory bandwidth bound.

XSX w/ Gamepass Vs. PS5 w/PSNow. XSX is def more attractive unless PSNow can match Gamepass. Gamepass is a huge selling point for XSX at whatever the price along with the BC Team. At this moment we don't know much about PSNow for next gen and Sony can't rely on same model as PS4 with the Pandemic still going on and people not working.

@lifelessablaze: Not true. Xbox Series X will be my primary console regardless of price. It’s more powerful by 30-35% and has a better CPU and Ram.

So yeah, I am definitely choosing the Xbox Series X. Which makes you fake news. Eventually I will get the PS5. But Sony only has a couple exclusive games I enjoy. The Last of Us and Spider-Man. Days Gone was ok and Death Stranding I will play when I just want to relax and f-around too. But outside that, nothing too interesting. God Of War? Dumb. Uncharted? Tomb Raider is light years better. Bloodbourne? Retarded. Order 1886? Awful. Zero interest in Japanese role playing games outside of FF which are all on Xbox One X and look better too. So Xbox Series X will be my one and only next gen console for at least a couple years. Maybe until the midgen refresher consoles come out.

I'll be there day one for both consoles. I've liked enough of what I've seen and the potential to get both at launch. Interested in MS's 1st party to be honest... it will be interesting to see what the new studios can do. Hell, even if MS just pushes them to make cheap canon fodder for their game pass at least one of them should be a sleeper hit. Honestly though, I think that MS is coming to the knife fight with a gun this time around. It should be interesting to see how SONY responds. That show was weak as hell, but I know they are both playing a game of cat and mouse wanting each other to reveal their hand first while each trying to look as though they are out in front.

I went back and forth with whether or not I'd get an Xbox at launch, but they have me sold now if for nothing more than the fact that I see them going all in and actually trying to compete.

They could be $1,000 each and it wouldn't change my mind either way. To me it isn't about the money. On that note I'm guessing they both launch at $500 as the most likely scenario.

$500 just seems so unlikely. Aside from their fist gen, the Xbox brand hasn't really been big on taking losses on hardware sales. And this beast of a machine must cost more than $500 to manufacture.

Um no. The Xbox controller is the more preferred controller. A quick google search will prove that.

Nah most of Sony's exclusives are over-rated. Those alone won't give them a huge lead again next gen. Things like 25% more power, Smart Delivery and Game Pass will mean more to gamers next gen than a few cinematic exclusives from Sony.

@briguyb13:

Yeah how many times more powerful the XBO X is over the switch?

We know which one sold incredible and which sold like shit.

Man didn't you learn anything from the original Xbox? By far the biggest gap ves the PS and nothing happen.

I wonder what the excuses will be once the PS5 start to pull away in sales.
