The original Killzone had just as much hype as Killzone 2.

It had journalists proclaiming it was worth every ounce of hype.

It had System Wars 100% sure it was a AAA title.

It had cows repeatedly mention how Halo was doomed.

Every little bit of hype Killzone 2 had the first had.

So i have to ask - why do you all expect this one to turn out differently?

It was released on a pretty big userbase that was FPS starved. It was mediocre but they had no choice but to buy it.

Yea pretty much. That and the hype. And Killzone 2 has been getting more hype than Killzone. Compare the announcement of the first Killzone and its release to Killzone 2. Killzone 2 isn't even out yet...

I don't think every journalist and their moma were hyping the first Killzone right before release. I hope Sony does a Super Bowl commercial!

You think wrong. they were. Killzone 1 was every bit the media blitz Killzone 2 is proving to be. The day it flopped was something else on these boards.

People who preview games usually give the developer a free pass on flaws, because most of the time developers or PR will say that they're still "polishing things up", so they give them the benefit of the doubt, even though it's usually a bunch of BS. And you're right, Killzone has too much praise in previews, but Killzone 2 is getting praise from people who have review copies in their hands, so it's safe to say history won't repeat itself, I think.

You don't need to play it to know it'll suffer from the same issues as every FPS that's styled after Halo. The level design will be linear. The teammate AI will suck. The gameplay will be too similar to Halo/Resistance/CoD/*insert FPS here*. I hope Killzone 2 is as good as people are hyping it to be (my PS3 is itching for an FPS), but outside of "teh graphics", Killzone 2 isn't doing anything particularly innovative.

Well it's fairly easy to get AAA these days, especially as a console shooter. We've seen KZ2 in action, it is definitely another run of the mill shooter. It's also pretty. These 2 elements combined automatically earn it a low AA (im not trying to be sarcastic here). So if we factor in: A possibly good story The cover system turns out to be cool The ultra cinematic feel of the single player pays off The multiplayer has a class system, and ranks You got yourself AAA. It's sad, I know. Gaming journalism is broken.

I hope this game flops, and that is a terrible thing to say. I don't have any respect for these devs, and for them to get such a huge budget while smaller and more talented companies are biting the dust is kind of sickening. theyve generated so much hype and all were getting (finally) is a passable, pretty FPS.

Are you sure?I remember it being stated a little while after KZ2 was announced that the first sold around 800k.

EDIT:KZ2 actually looks VERY fun after watching the Gametrailers preview. o_o VERY fun. Like a much better CoD4. Kudos for clan support.

I do not see that many people calling this a Halo killer like Killzone was. I remember some magazine had Killzone on the cover and it said "Halo Killer."

Journalists were not hyping it. One person involved made a "halo killer" comment that doomed KZ no matter what score it had gotten. Fans were hoping it would be good. Sony and Guerilla released a broken game and it flopped. With KZ Liberation the series seems to be on the right track. Less bragging and more proving is why KZ2 is set to be pretty good.

Fairly easy? Haze? Left 4 Dead? Doesn't seem all that easy to me. It's a genre with so many titles its easy for journalists to get tired of it unless it really provides a new feature that blows them away. Resistance 2 just set the bar for multiplayer. Its not easy to score AAA. Just ask all the games that don't score that high.

I didn't get swept up in the hype. I mean, not the point where I don't see a games flaws. I thought the first Killzone was a great game, but of course it had it's problems. I think of things realistically, I don't hype something to be more than what it actually is. Killzone 2 looks like it's going to be a really fun game and since I already enjoyed the first, I think I will enjoy this one. I am particularly hyped about the first person cover system.

What do you mean? All of SONY's 1st and 2nd party devs get a big budget and a lot of time. Lair was a mistake that they don't want to go through again.(as a launch title they had to release it), Other devs are rushed by the likes of big corporate publishers like Actavi$ion and EA, which need to rush games to pay off the stock holders who put pre loaned money into their hands, and it sucks... but what can you do? Sony wants their 1st/2nd party games to make the system shine so they get the big budgets all of them. M$ does the same thing, although they have much much less 1st party publishers and just bribe 3rd parties, for exclusive dlc that pisses gamers off. Sony isn't funding non-sony devs, and private devs are limited by there own bank accounts or venture captilist investors.

My big question is to you why do you want a game to be bad? That makes no sense what so ever, I don't care what system it's on.

Why are you people such rabid fanboys? How can you want a game to be bad? I don't care what system it's one, this just shows your true colors that is all. Killzone 2 will be a great game multiplayer...I was in the beta so I know already. And hopefully single player will knock are socks off! I wasn't here to really know how much was the first Killzone was being hyped, but by judging the PS2 userbase which was the largest at the time, I bet it was worse than the hype for Killzone 2 now. Also I believe that this time Killzone 2 will meet if not exceed expectation, because it's been years in the making and lots of great shooters came out for Guerilla Games to use as a blue print and get ideas from to make their shooter game better.

The media is giving KZ2 good feedbacks dont be a fanboy :|

The media also gave Too Human and Lair good feedback dont be a fanboy

Can you find me a link of that then?

We recently got our hands on this upcoming co-op action extravaganza and didn't want to let go.Lair looks to buck this trend with stunning visuals and some clever uses of the Sixaxis controller. If you think it sounds cool to jump on the back of a dragon and set fire to loads of baddies, you'd be right. both from gamespot, there's also plenty on other sites previews are positive

I expect it to look pretty, but fail as a game.

Well.."I" haveing a 360/Xbox can say this...How HYPED was Halo3 and GOW2? Look at all the hate and complaints about them. This is what I have to say about KZ2...Its been in development for about 5 years now. No kidding, I have a magazine that has it mentioned in it, along with MGS4, GrandTourismo5 and other games that took years to come out..."hate that about sony"

KZ1 came out when shooters were kind of hit N miss on consoles. Everything was kind of newish and not yet thought out...BUT we're years ahead of all that now. Things have been worked out and now for the most part every shooter is about the same. I have no doubt that KZ2 will totally deliver the goods. Will it be a 10/10?...Dont know. I do know I dont like PS controllers for shooters very much as they are all too sensitive and not as accurate as 360/xbox ones..But, we'll see.
