actually the PC becomes last gen every couple of months when it becomes out-dated.

Â
Actually, I believe all that would do is make it more next-gen than consoles.Â
You know why, cause u can upgrade that s**t to make a direct 9 card to a direct 10 card, and poof, ur in a new gen of gaming, add a core 2 duo to that and some overclocking and u got something that will look beautiful compared to console counterparts. Try upgrading a console, oh no wait, u have to buy a new one to have a next-gen experience. But likewise, a gaming pc would set you about $3000 to have games looking better than the ps3 (and u thought $600 was expensive) but in 4 years, ps3/360 games will look like crap compared to pc counterparts. (oh and the wii already looks like crap compared to any counterpart, lol)deadlyliquidxxx
Upgrading you PC is no different then buying another game console. Besides the price that is. Getting a new processor, motherboard and graphics card along can run you about $800, unless you buy cheap crap. PC games look great, but many of them play like crap. Lots of lag, lots of bugs, lots of patches. You'll spend more time trying to get the game to play right, then actually playing the game.

I'll play.
Wrong. A current high-end rig will keep you ahead of consoles visually until the end of their life cycles. You don't have to upgrade if you don't want to. But if you do, a high-end rig from the middle of these consoles life cycles will be leaps and bounds ahead visually with games. A console running the same game will be at roughly equal to a PC at medium/medium-low settings by that time.
Wow, the PC gamers deal with the most ignorance on this board. mattbbpl
Â
Kind of like how I have to deal without gaming in HD (wok7) and 'monthly' upgrades so I can keep up to date.
Â
A little comparison. A $200 midrange enthusiast level video card will provide graphics that are on par with most consoles. So when it comes to total price. If I buy 20 games for the Xbox 360 or Playstation 3, it's going to cost me $1200 a year at $60 a pop. But if I buy 20 games for the PC and a $200 video card every year, it's going to cost me. $1200. The same price.
Â
Because PC games are cheaper. And in fact, I made my comparison based upon paying $50 for PC titles. STALKER cost me $39.99. Â
Unless you're PC is 4 years old. Otherwise, the PC is next gen. What people fail to realize is that a $1500 PC will keep your going for 4 years.NarwaffleNot if you want to game. I built my computer in 2005 and here it is two years later and I can play very few current video games due to my outdated video card.

but it will still be behind the current PC limits, making it outdated and last gen. now if you'll excuse me i'm going to run away from this topic in order to avoid being proven wrong.[QUOTE="Narwaffle"]Unless you're PC is 4 years old. Not my point. If you bought the top of the line GPU, then you're set. I'm still getting by on a 6800 (nearing it's 4th birthday) and I can still run games like CNC3 with a solid framerate without sacrificing too much detail. Â
Crysis, nouf said. (but then again, to play it at max u need a core 2 duo and nvidia 8800gtx, that should set you out about $1000 minimum.

No need.
Touché.
But those cycles are closer to 1-2 years :)Â

$3000??? Maybe if you're buying a G5 like I had years ago. Top of the line Powermac G5 at over $4000 Canadian with more plus tax plus I added on more GB and got more ran and blah blah
Just edited it on it. Wanted to get Half-Life2 but they don't have it on Mac apparently
But come on dude $3000 no no no....it's more expensive then a console however and then add on prices for upgrading like two years later let's say for games like Crysis but $3000 is way out thereÂ

$600 for an XBox360 or PS3 will keep you going for 5+yrs.
:|
It will. But by that time, the latest PC Hardware will have surpassed both systems in graphical capabilities. In fact, I think it already has. The new 8800 GPUs can produce graphics that look better then anything on the PS3 and the 360. I'm walking too close to the fanboy line here, but it's true. PCs are for enthusiasts. Someone with a powerful PC is obviously serious about gaming, and knowledgeable enough to build their own. I'm just about to buy a bunch of new components and build myself a new PC. I've also got a Wii, and I can see why consoles are so appealing. Put down a few hundred dollars and you get a system that you don't have to worry about for 5 years. But the customizability of consoles (or lack of) just can't satisfy the PC enthusiast inside me.
Gotta love it how everyone avoids my price comparison when they talk about PC being out of date constantly. TekkenMaster606I've learned it's not worth the trouble. We did this just a while ago and asked why a PC would cost such a ridiculous amount and they threw things out like 4GB ram for $400, SLI 8800s, Top of the Line Sound Cards, etc. I'm amazed that they didn't go totally nuts with Windows Vista Ultimate, Solid State Drives, and Network Accelerator cards.

Â
Yeah it will keep you going for 5 plus years... with pretty much the same graphics every year. Whereas with the computer you could run out and buy a new Direct X 10 card and install it in your system.
[QUOTE="Meu2k7"]Halo all-round is a joke :P pretty much, ut >>>> halo You got it, Halo is like the Wii of the FPS world, sells a ton, main-stream, but quaility? haha slugish based, unbalanced weaponry with poorly designed and abusable maps. Anyway back to the topic, you can upgrade to a top-end GPU / CPU and processor for the price of an Xbox360 or PS3 , so its not that expensive anymore to be a PC Gamer.

And none of that is needed. It may help performance but even I know when something isn't needed for gaming. I know Blu-Ray isn't needed. 1GB of RAM is suitable for getting great peformance out of most games on the market today. And a $200 Radeon X1950 pumps out great looking visuals. I'm getting full AA and AF out of STALKER on a single card...

its son fun when people compare the ps3 price with a high end ALIENWARE case with watercooling =p.A non gaming PC with a PCIE mobo and 1.5gb of RAM coupled with a nice 6300 C2D costs 374... Now add the 8800GTS that costs 287 and you have a nice system of: 667...
A PS3 costs 660... True_Gamer_
Â
Bingo. And forget the Core 2 Duo 6300. Just get the E4300 and overclock the hell out of it.

Core 2 Duo = 180
http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=80858
8800 gtx = 564.99
http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=321102
Total = 744.99
More like 750 minimum
EDIT- for the 4300 its 166.99
http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=80865Â
So total, a core 2 duo and an 8800 is 731.98

Ha! PC's are un-reliable and damn expensive if you want to get decent games running smoothly.
Since when did the PC have such a good selection of games anyway?

The graphics in every console get better with time, thats a fact, but you have to upgrade your pc a lot to take on new games, say .... I couldnt possibly play Crysis on my pc the way its meant to be because I havent upgraded it in about 2 years, what I'm trying to say is that PC gaming will get much more expensive than console gaming with time.libthegod
 This is subjective as hell..

BTW, I love the 300 spoof!
So basicaly hermits are saying if i got a 8800gtx, 2gigs of ram and e6600 2 duo cpu i wont have to upgrade for another four years for games to run at medium on a decent resolution, I really doubt that.
Im thinking about getting a new computer, I got a laptop at the start of last year but it only has a Duo 1.66 cpu, Ati Radeon x1400 and 1 gig of ram, Its alright but its not build for games.
Im thinking about getting the 8800gtx, 2gigs of ram and e6600 2 duo cpu but really i dont think it will last me 4 years until i want to upgrade again, Im now looking at getting the R600 or 8800gtx ultimate, 4 gigs of ram and a quad core cpu- the top of the range quad core.
If anyone can give me an idear if any of these pcs would last four years at least on a medium setting with little to no slowdown or if i cant give me an idear how long that quad core coupled with 4gigs of ram and r600 or 880gtx ultimate will last.
actually the PC becomes last gen every couple of months when it becomes out-dated.The Wii was outdated a year proir to its release with RE4, the PS3 and 360 where outdated before they released too. My PC has lasted me 2 years and i can still max out almost anything on the market. Also your games have horrendus value, Quake 1 a game 11 years old still has players online and great mod support. To add insult to injury console game prices are terribly overpriced for what they are and for how long they last compared to the PC.
