Console orientated genres aren't that widespread on PC, who would have guessed.

In other news, RTS and simulation is still uncommon on consoles.

So you mean PC doesn't have tons of console centric games coming out for it? :O

Then again I'm sure the consoles have lots of RTS, simulators, TBS and WRPGS!

I don't deny that but if someone's a fighting game fan there is little for him on the PC besides SFIV.

There are barely any notable fighters, platformers, shmups and other arcade type games comming out on the PC these days. And I also don't see any notable JRPGs, 3rd person shooters and even action adventures comming out on the PC. If they do come, it's mostly cheap ports from the consoles.

And don't say I'm hating on the PC. I'm just telling the truth.

nameless12345

Not in the mainstream, yes. Reality though is different.

Arcades, platformers are thriving trough indie devs, with games like Beat Hazard, Chicken Invaders 4, Grid Wars, Machinarium (they are incredibly fun, and lenghty, try them out asap) and others i can't recall at this moment. Don't let them fool you, some are better then your favorite high budget game.

Fightings games were never the domain of the PC, but the fighting genre is small, right now. There haven't ben many fighting games recently exclusively for consoles except like two or three. I'm talking about 2010/2011. Rest have ben ported over here. Including Blazblue. There's also MAME, google it.

But we got mods, and modders. So don't really need anything. We can play a thousand different games, and different genres of games by buying one popular mod friendly game.

nameless12345

And my comments are proof that consoles are not ideal for everyone, like some people here suggest...

All you are doing is taking things that are equally applicable to both PC and console, and trying to spin them as saying something negative about PC, and only PC.

I really don't think it was worth creating a thread for such a easy to pick apart argument.

There are some doujin fighters and plenty of Final Fight-like fighters too.

On the other hand if you like simulators then there's not even one this gen consoles. Some arcade-sims there, but even those are extremely extremely rare (like 1 or 2 this gen).

Don't see the problem that you're seeing with PC's. I've been playing NEO-GEO games for the longest time on my PC. That includes games like Metal Slug, Last Blade, Samurai Shodown, and King of Fighters.

As for other arcade-y games, we also have awesome platformers like Super Meat Boy, and tons of free puzzle games like Bejeweled and the like that you can easily find right on the Web, unlike the ones you have to pay for on the consoles.

Everyone should know the overall bastions for each platform:

Consoles: Action, Action Adventure, Sports Simulation, Party games, Rythm games.

PC: Adventure, Vehicle Simulation, Management Simulation, Strategy, MMOG.

The funny thing is that consoles aren't really getting many of those "console genres" you listed, it's all about shootan games on consoles now. Like, how many notable 3d platformers have come out on the ps3/360 this gen?

You make it sound like those genres are still rich on consoles. In the last five years, they really aren't. It's all about the shootan games nowadays, and triple A titles that are generally multiplat. Side scrolling fighters seem to be the one exception - the PC is actually rich in the department of platformers and shumps, or what you would consider as 'arcade games'. Reason is simple, independent development, mods, distribution even Flash.

PC games usually get better versions of console ports. Case in point: Assassin's Creed 1 and 2. If you neglect the inane DRM, the graphics are eons ahead of what's capable on consoles. It's the same with Dragon Age (designed for the PC, obviously--we're talking about Bioware here). If developers aren't lazy and optimize their ports well, the PC version will always be better than the console version.

Troofs:

this is on my crappy PC with a resolution of 1440x900, all other settings to the max. I'm touting an HIS 4670 1GB DDR3, 4GB RAM, and an Intel Quad Core Duo (in essence, a bad prebuilt HP m9500t with a custom graphics card I bought from a friend for $400). If you can experience this with a low-end gaming PC, computer gaming already wins the battle.

PC seems to be getting more of those games due to indie releases. Bit-Trip Runner and Beat released on Steam recently. VVVVVV and NighSky are neat indie platformers (there are more like Gumboy, Gish, The Maw). Not to mention SMB sold the most on PC. Aquaria is one of the best action-adventure games I've played this generation and it's PC exclusive. Recettear, Mark Lueng and Chantlise are exclusive indie JRPG's for the PC. Fighters like BlazBlue and Street Fighter are making their way onto PC. PC also has plenty of Shmups but I can't vouch for their quality (mostly hardcore Japanese ones from knowledge).

All in all I can see the PC is faring better with those 'console genres' than consoles are faring with 'PC genres'.

Melty Blood would be good example.

Arcade games? If you ever went around IndieDB, you'd see a ton.

You also have too look at the Japan front, which in all honesty, have tons.
