The MAIN point of publishers (the developers are mere emploees in most cases) is to SHIELD NA+EU+Japan from piracy because there is no point of countries that wouldnt have bought the games anyway....

So the RICH west is the one that loses POTENTIAL income to the publishers through piracy....so if the net is tamed through ANTIDEMOCRATIC laws and controlled then piracy will die....

However the renting industry provides thousands of copies of games for miniscule cost at NO risk to the pirate....

Torrentspy dies

TPB is immortal

Demonoid reopens under new admin!

You aren't going to kill piracy in any industry but I personally think you can reduce it by removing restrictive DRM that hurts the honest customers while not affecting the pirates at all.

Well its one thing to say PC piracy is dieing and its another to say PC piracy is overall increasing in every country just not in the US.

Thats why some people want to do just that, give games away for free. Publishers can get money from in-game advertising.

Do you have any idea how much it costs to develop a game, software, or a movie? This often isn't about greed, it's about breaking a profit, many companies fail to do even that, and you sure aren't helping anything. Spin it anyway you want, but it boils down to theft.

Great going.

Piracy can never go away... and it really doesn't matter since piracy has never "killed" any form of gaming and isn't in the process of killing any for of gaming. Piracy only seems like a big deal because of big-time developers whining about their crappy games not selling.

No it's not his opinion, it's fact. Using software without a valid license is considered stealing under the law. And just because some people agree with you doesn't mean you're right.

physical property, yes..

but i dont really feel obligated to support anyone unless i think their digital product is worthwhile to me..

all the games i play the most i have paid for..not everyone can buy every game.. and as a developer i would rather that a larger audience played it ...the money would come in from actually creating a quality product..sure some people will steal it but id rather have that than the vile relationship between PC gamers and most developers... the truth is that there are way too many games for everyone to purchase and a lot of those people are addicted to games, they like to experience new and interesting types of games and they simply cannot buy it all, they buy what they respect the most and hope that others do the same..

You do anything at all and you are as guilty as the people you shake your finger at. Dont play angels because im sure everyone here at one time or another has "shared"....

Physical property and digital property aren't different from each other. Just because one is easier to steal does not give you the right to steal it. And because you don't feel obligated to support a product that is not worthwhile to you, does not mean you can take it for free. Wow you guys are actually trying to justify piracy. You could be the lawyers for the massive amount of crooks needing a way out in Brazil. "Well obviously, this poor bugger didn't think the diamond was up to snuff, so he decided to steal it from the jewellery store in the middle of night and sell it in the black market, so he could finally afford that holiday home in the Bahamas. I rest my case!"

Just to point out that's not a good example as it's a personal reason why people don't give their personal details away and it's a commerical reason why people wants to "share" stuff. As for the rest, preach on, man!

steam = hard to crack = way for dev to get lots of sales. people like to download games, looks a bittournets and they can now do it legaly, plus cd keys make online imposable in many games if its already in use.

OK...Here is the difference...

You cant just go to TacoBell and TAKE "share" food from them. WHY?...Because its not up to the employees to do that , UNLESS that employee has permission or is the owner of that product. Same for any store, restaurant, ect ect..

NOW....you have a friend that has a game, or movie, or music or program and that "FRIEND" lets you borrow it "share" its up to that person as that person is supposed to OWN that product. And IF that person doenst own the product after buying it...THEN, I would not support the company any longer....

IF I buy something....ITS MINE...I dont care what the labeling says in fine print. I dont care....And millions of others feel the same way. Its our opinion....OUR choice what we want to do with our products we have bought...

physical property, yes..

but i dont really feel obligated to support anyone unless i think their digital product is worthwhile to me..

all the games i play the most i have paid for..not everyone can buy every game.. and as a developer i would rather that a larger audience played it ...the money would come in from actually creating a quality product..sure some people will steal it but id rather have that than the vile relationship between PC gamers and most developers... the truth is that there are way too many games for everyone to purchase and a lot of those people are addicted to games, they like to experience new and interesting types of games and they simply cannot buy it all, they buy what they respect the most and hope that others do the same..

Guys I didnt say "Global piracy is dying" thats impossible in countries like Russia/China etc....I said western piracy is on the run and dying which is what it seems that happening....

As for that "physical" comment you couldnt be more wrong...

Im in my 3rd year of law school in UK university and theft is:

Appropriation with intention to permanently deprive....

If there even 1 thing missing then its not theft...
