The Persona 5 5/5 Event Thread: Are They On The Road To Glory... Or Ruin? (UPDATE: Stream Link Inside)

In less than one day, Atlus finally take the wraps off of Persona 5, and we find out when this game finally releases. The May 5 event for Persona 5 is a major one- Atlus is going to take over the Tokyo Tower, a major landmark, and they will bathe it red and black as the final promotional footage and release date for the long awaited title are finally unveiled

So, when exactly is this event? How do we find out when Persona 5 will at last be in our hands? This image countdowns to when the stream proper begins- you can refresh the image to refresh the timer.

So... what can we expect at the event?

• Persona 5's Japanese release date
• New footage and trailers
• News on the Persona 5 OVA
• News on the Persona 20th Anniversary Celebration- possibly a Persona Collection for the PS4
• Lots and lots of shenanigans

The natural question that follows is- if we can't realistically expect a Persona 5 release date to be announced for the west, then why do we care?

We care because Atlus staggers its games between Japan and the west by roughly two months on average- and an even shorter six week period for Persona. So, while we may not get the exact release date for the west tomorrow, we will at the very least know the window in which Persona 5 will be in all of our hands. Also, in the event of (yet another fucking) delay, the stream tomorrow will let everyone know.

So... the ball is in your court, Atlus: are we on the road to glory? Or ruin?

I hope they keep their "promise" of a release date this year.

I think the EU release date announcement will come about 2-4 weeks after the NA release date announcement, which itself will be 2-4 weeks after the Japan release date.

As for what the EU release date in, I am pretty confident in thinking that it will hit Europe the same month as it hits North America.

After watching the trailer I can safely say that Persona games are not for me ... my god. That's OK though, I'm guessing most of the games I love aren't in Persona's fans wheelhouse either :P

It's crazy!

Expecting for the western release for pc to take over ps3 spot. PC/PS4 October window. Year unknown.

Atlus have not developed in house on PC in... I think 20 years? Hell, simply putting Persona 5 on PS4 in addition to PS3, for which it was originally announced, delayed the game by a massive two years. Do you really think they would take on a third SKU for no reason?

It is likelier that the PS3 release is relegated to being digital only in the west, while PS4 gets pushed as the main retail one (in Japan, I imagine both SKUs debut at retail).

Good point I just think that these days it makes more sense as we have seen with other games. It shouldn't be too difficult to port ps4 version to pc. The delay might have been for that also. The hype is there and steam can be very attractive for studios like Atlus. Plus Sega is taking over and they have been on a make war not love tour on steam lol. Handing out a bunch of freebies. They really want to focus on that platform what better way then to bring Persona there.

I really do agree with the sensibility in putting Persona on PC- I do, trust me. But Sega, while owning Atlus, have openly stated that they will not interfere with how Atlus conduct their business (apparent in the fact that Persona 5 has had three separate delays since it was originally announced), and Atlus themselves aren't too hot on PC- not only have none of their previous games appeared on PC (no Catherine, no Persona 3, Persona 4, Etrian Odyssey, Shin Megami Tensei IV, Dragon's Crown), but also, unlike most Japanese publishers that backport some of their older games to PC when they want to dip their toes in the water, Atlus have not even experimented with putting their older games on the platform yet.

So while I do agree that Persona 5 on PC makes a lot of sense, I am also almost entirely confident that it is not going to happen- yet. In the future, one day, Persona 3, Persona 4, and Persona 5 may even release on Steam- but Persona 5 will not be on PC for now, especially not day and date with its console debut.

Game's gonna be great, my second most hyped game of the year.

I'm all up for a Collection of Persona. I'm playing the remake on psp and boy is it good, a little annoying with the random fights every 2 steps but fun.

@Kruiz_Bathory: Oh, you're playing the original Persona game. Well, if you like that one, then Persona 3 and 4 will blow your socks off lol. The original Persona games aren't even the reason this franchise is so popular (and play completely differently from how Persona is now as well). Hopefully you get around to Persona 3 and Persona 4 soon!

Also, a two month stagger for Atlus games between Japanese and North American release? I'm not so sure about that. SMT Final/Apocalypse is still TBA and (according to Wikipedia) a Q2/Q3 release. SMT4 was the shortest staggered release with a two month gap between Japanese and North American release. Strange Journey was 5 months. Soul Hackes 3DS was 8 months. Persona 3 on PS2 13 months, P3FES was 12 months, P3P 8 months, Persona 4 was 5 months and P45 was 5 months (partially held back by Vita release), Persona Q was 5 months. Devil Survivor on DS was 5 months and Survivor Overlocked released a week before the Japanese version. Devil Survivor 2 was 7 months on DS and 4 months for Record Breaker on 3DS.

So, if we're going off previous data, I think the stagger could be longer than two months. Then again, unlike previous entries, none have had the hype that Persona 5 has garnered, so special consideration might be had about its release to make it a big simultaneous multi-region release, or at least keep the releases close side by side as much as possible. Then again, Sega is at the helm now... it could stagger like Yakuza, I hope not. Hurray for PS4 games being able to be played on any device regardless of region... I still don't speak or read Japanese.

Best we can do, is be vocal about support for this game. Hopefully Atlus/Sega takes notice and realizes it would be a mistake to pass up on the enthusiasm for this game and therefor not to delay its release by much. Anyhow, a SMT: Apocalypse release date would be nice too.

Too late, we will all be disappointed tomorrow.

No. Just consolidate P3P and P3:FES, and put that and P4G in one collection on the PS4.

Even better, remake Revelations and P2 in the modern Persona format.

@charizard1605: I'll take but that's a pipe dream of mine. The only other re-release I would want more would be a Vesperia Complete on Vita.

Also, if we are getting a release date then I'm expecting a CE to go with it. Wouldn't mind if they went crazy like MS and SE and go big; $250+.

Strange enough I couldn't get into P4 but loved P4G. I tried to like P2 but it didn't work well either.
