The playstation controller has lasted 3 gens now GOAT?

So I was thinking the playstation controller has lasted 3 gens It has to go down as the greatest controller of all time It's amazing how sony got it so right the very first time, If you take ur fanboy hats off for a minute im sure you could respect the accomplishment of the controller lasting 3 gens, Keep in mind it wouldnt have lasted 3 gens if the majority of owners were not happy with it

I just can use it very well with shooters. Halo would not work well on the PS controller. It is nice though, but the 360`s just feels...better to me.jfkunrendered

Agreed.  I love the look of the sixaxis and prefer it over the 360's controller.  However, once that 360 controller is in your hand it almost makes you want to turn your console on and start playing anything.

Very good point.I am so glad that they kept it virtually the same.'If it aint broke dont fix it'!

You should actually take your hat off and thank Nintendo for that controller... Sony just put some thumbsticks on it. I like the DPAD, I don't like the triggers or the thumbsticks.

I never much liked the design myself. The four shoulder buttons and the placement of the analog sticks just didn't work for my hands. I could play games, but not all that effectively. But that's just me.

The controller "lasted" 3 gens because Sony didn't come up with anything different. :| I'm, personally, not a huge fan of the PS controller - the 360 controller is vastly superior, IMO.HeedleGlavin

I agree. I like how it is a little heavy, it's balanced perfectly, and the thumbsticks feel great. If only it had an SNES dpad, I'd be set for life with that fellow.

I really don't see anything special with the playstation controller. It's alright, does the job, but nothing OMGAMAZING.

The 360 controller is OMGAMAZING, it just fits so well into my hands. But the Dpad sucks.TheSpidren

 So if they got it right the "first" time, why did they add rumble and two analogs sticks. Not to mention the controller is nearly identical to the SNES controller.

Sony has stolen plenty of stuff from Nintendo, at the very least they could have taken ABXY...

And the analog stick placement on the controller is crap, a completely unnatural position.  I don't consider it an accomplishment, I consider it "casual gamer appeasement."  As the casuals would hate to relearn their buttons/hand position for their next installment of GTA and Madden.

What you said doesn't really make any sense. Because they didn't change it for 3 generations makes it great? Keeping in mind they were going to change it to that boomerang looking control. But yes I have to admitt (at the time) it was a great control. Xbox control wasn't to my liking but the 360 control I believe is the best out of the bunch. By your logic if MS keeps their control design for another generation or two... it too should go down as one of the greatest.

I don't personally like the PS gamepad... and they didn't get it right the first time.  First they had a tiny tiny controller with no thumbsticks, then they made it larger with indented thumbsticks, then they made it a little smaller with the thumbsticks we know now and added rumble, so on and so forth.

They've done quite a bit to the controller but they never fixed the stuff I thought was wrong with the design: Face button placement, shoulder button placement, and THUMBSTICK PLACEMENT (this one is especially annoying since it makes me hurt when I play FPS games on it).

Favorite traditional controllers: Gamecube and 360

Agree completely. The Gamcube was one fine controller in my book. Second best traditional controller imo, next to the 360. Wii-mote is just in a different ball park.

When the main thumbstick is not in line with where your thumb would naturally lie it means that the controller is not good. I dont ever use the d-pad for gaming unless the game necessitates it.

360's is the best by far though. The Wii controller feels pretty good as well unless I'm playing SPM and I hold it sideways, not a big fan of that layout.

My hands cant stand sony's gamepads , They are so small , my Thumbs getting pain after 10mins of gameplay

Gamecube controller was terrible for sports games... pass instead of shoot almost everytime.

I don't know about the analog sticks... I played fight night round 3 on both systems and Playstation feels much more smooth to me...
