The next MS machine will include a handheld fully integrated with the new console - yes, seriously.
Or not... :P
Haha well that was a legitimate rumor, but idk... I know theres some people saying thats what the ngp will end up doing for ps3, cus u could then use cloud to transfer saves from ps3 to ngp and just keep playing.... In that sense maybe i could see microsoft copying that if sony pulls it off wellThe next MS machine will include a handheld fully integrated with the new console - yes, seriously.

They could, but it will be even harder for them than the home console market.

They're doing pretty well at the home console market.
I think they shouldn't release one, if they were to, now -- instead, wait 2-3 years for the NGP and 3DS to age and then release the Microsoft Portable.

Exactly, which is why i was saying that one or two years ago, when all of nintendos and sonys cards were down and we were thirsty for new portable technology, microsoft could have easily thrown out a portable and dominated against a ds and psp that would be much weaker... But now since nintedo and sony have new cards to play, microsoft would have to wait for them to finish playing those again to get another chanceIt's not too late, but I don't think it'd be worth it. At least not for the specific market the PSP and DS are in where the majority of support seems to come from Japan.
I think they're better off supporting their phone.
Agreed, if they are any smart, they'll stick to console gaming, trying to get into the fight by now, would be a really dumb idea, then again, that's what we all thought about the original Xbox.
I think Microsoft is playing it safe. They don't want to risk loosing their money launching a product that might not sell. Sony's the only company who ever came close to standing up to Nintendo in the handheld department. Nintendo has been the ring leader since... well since the beginning of handhelds and Microsoft doesn't want to get involved. They're probably better off that way.
I read your topic and then I had a good laugh at the Zune, WinCE, and Windows portables in general. I would personally never buy a portable anything (Music player, Phone, Game system) with any sort of Windows OS on it.
I think MS is more interested in the smartphone market and I'd rather see the psp2 having some rock solid remoteplay functionality and the implementation of wireless stream of your ps3 games straight to your handheld. That way, we'll finally be able to truly take our treys to bed as we have been dreaming about all these years.
Why would they want to? Everyone and their dog knows that handhelds are going to struggle to remain relevant in the face of increasingly-popular tablets and smartphones (why would the average consumer spend $250+ on a 3DS/NGP when a $200 iPhone can provide their gaming fix?). They're far better off focusing on XBL/WP7/XNA integration and making Windows 8 genuinely tablet-friendly.
Microsoft is s*** with hardware... any device they could come up with would take a whole new iteration to make it capable of competing. The last thing we need is more platforms with more exclusives.foxhound_foxI disagree entirely. I would rather have MORE active platforms with more differences between them. I really don't like how similar the game libraries of the PS3 and Xbox 360 are. But DS and PSP have almost entirely different libraries, and they're both better off for it.
Bravo! This gentleman nailed it in just the next post.honestly they should stick to promoting WP7 and XNA integration with it

[QUOTE="Firebird-5"]honestly they should stick to promoting WP7 and XNA integration with itralphikariBravo! This gentleman nailed it in just the next post. Except nobody cares about Windows Phone 7... It's largely irrelevant in the face of Android and iOS. If anything, Microsoft should consider releasing some of its games on 3DS.
I think they should stay far away, from making a portable. TBH i would be scared to death to own, use one with thier hardware track record. probably blow up in your pocket lol. I sell cellphones for a living and windows phone 7 is not doing very well either. Who knows thought i would love to read a new sticky, xbox 180 pocket, RRODPBP, + Burnt Pocket Fixes. :)

If anything, Microsoft should consider releasing some of its games on 3DS. savebatteryThat's true at the moment, but WP7 should remain the key role and focus of MS' plan if they ever want to crack into mobile gaming. Personally I look forward to the day I can play any XNA game I purchasedfrom XBL on my phone without paying twice. "Platformance" and "Twin Blades" are a good start.

I suppose they could but I'm not sure what place they would hold in the market. But I do think it the NGP keeps it close or beats the 3DS in sales then Microsoft would be foolish to not at least take a look at options.BreakTheseLinks
Except zune actually works better then the ipod *there are lots of people that prefer the zune software over itunes and find its music playback capabilities to be superior* don't act like mass market pollution *the ipod, line of music players got where it is because of appeal not because of working well* means the zune sucks As it is ipod isn't even about music anymore unless you get the shuffle or nano the main large units are all about apps.
They already entered the portable war with Windows Phone 7 (with integrated Xbox Live and exclusive games).
