The problem with "Just wait"ing

There's no doubt that the line "Just wait" seems to have become the most valuable part of any PS3 fans arsenal, and, while most laugh at it, it still seems to be accepted as some sort of excuse.

Um. Why?

If something is going to launch a considerable time after something else and claim to be way better... It should show. When the original Xbox launched, technologically it showed it's strength in providing better graphics than PS2 from the off. And even then, the Xbox couldn't win.

Sony doesn't seem to realise that if you're going to give someone else a headstart and you intend to beat them, you have to be performing much better than them from the off to stand any real chance of catching up. And unluckily for them, the Xbox 360 got off to a better headstart than they imagined.

It'll take some doing for Sony to come back and achieve the market share that the PS2 had, and I don't think "Just wait"ing is making the problem any better for them at all. Not by a long shot.

Yea, I'm gonna have to agree with that it should show. Then again if they do show that it's over the time there wouldn't be many ways to deny it, in fact it would prove that waiting payed off.

Gow2 looks awesome for a PS2 game and was a ton of fun too, but it doesn't look anywhere near as good as Halo.

And Lair uses progressive mesh, that is (according to Factor 5) impossible on the 360. It still doesn't look any better then games like Gears.

Like I said, does Halo look any better than MGS2?

Also, Jak 3, along with many other ps2 games, used bump mapping. Your point is invalid because, 1. the ps2 is capable of bump mapping, and 2. bump mapping didn't make Halo look any better than MGS2.

I think the original halo had some amazingly sharp textures for its time, perhaps still better then what the PS2 could do now. The lighting and bump mapping also made the visuals a big step up from the PS2 and Dreamcast.

This is the problem with the "just wait" slogan. Say for examplewhen the PS3 finally releases good games and drop its price, that doesn't mean the other two consoles won't have any good games to release and that doesn't mean the other two consoles won't have price drops aswell. I was trying to point out that the Xbox did not show it's hardware advantage over the ps2 immediately when it launched. It took time before Xbox games really started to outdo ps2 games. I chose MGS2 and Halo, because they came out in the US within 3 days of each other, and looked very similar.

But anyways I still don't think it was that far better. Yea Halo looked great but not that much as some hype it. Even in the other poster's pics you can see that it did had the edge on some textures and less jaggies but still it was't that much I'd say.

i agree that sony have made a huge deal of mistakes. But a lot of the "Just wait" actually stems from fans themselves. Sony think the launch was alright. I'm not sure, analysts say that the ps3 is going just as good if not better than the 360 at this stage.

This thread fails for one reason; you could apply the "Just wait" notion to any console.

mass effect which i thought would probably be GOTY07 with gta iv will probably see a release in early 08. I'dprefer them to delay it just to make itextragood.

The 360 costs less than the ps3 but its sales have slowed down considerably. Hasn't it been stuck at $11 million for a LOOONG time now. For its price i thought it'd have sold about 2 million in uk alone since that drop. £199 is how much the core sells over here; which is about how much the ps2 was before sales exploded.

The reason why i dont have a 360 is the same reason i dont have a ps3 yet. Not enough quality AAA's. Difference is that i know there are key titles that probably wont eversee the light ofday on a 360 and secret first party sony titles which'll obviously stay exclusive. I'drather wait than waste money on trash Gran turismo,and gran theft autowannabes.

The character models in the mgs2 shot have higher poly counts with more details (the hair, the guns, the backpacks, etc.). The Halo screen had a more expansive environment, and more vibrant colors (not that the color choicemattered at all).

I think the jaggies were dependent on whatever was used to capture the shot. No last gen game was as clean as that Halo shot.

Both shots were very similar from a technical standpoint.

Im sorry but i bought a 360 6 months after launch and its game collection was Awful.I was and STILL AM playing the Xbox title Halo 2 becuase the present 360 entirety of online games suck. Gears is good offline, But online was just a joke so they could put Xbox Live on it. you're right that every day that the 360 trumps the ps3, the ps3 loses more and more userbase. But you're wrong to think that things cannot change. The snes was released 2 years after the genesis and genesis games easily looked better than snes games out of the gate (...and throughout its whole life actually). For a variety of reasons, including the nintendo name, the snes beat the genesis in sales over the whole gen (50 million to 30 million). There are enough similarities now with the ps3 for it to become the next snesGunSmith1_basic

In my personal opinion PS3 will have the better graphics between the 2 cause of its later release after the 360. Just like last Gen, Xbox had the best hardware, but PS2 had the sales. Things will be the same, but the outcome will be diffrent this gen, I dont think they will sell more than the 360 or Wii, simply cause of its very "expensive"...they should have kept it simple, why Blu-Ray player???....thats whats costing them right now. without blue-ray, the console would have been in the 400 or 450 range or less, more marketable.

I agree to a certain point. I knew that Ps3 was going to be hard to develop for. But what has it been 7 months? Why are multiplats still looking better on the 360. Why are their so many delays? Where are the exclusive games? Sony needs to get their act together at E3 and deliver on what they said they were going to deliver on. Also speaking of just waiting on the Ps3 what about the PS3. It's been out for nearly 2 years is Microsoft ever going to fix the problems? I will not buy a 360 with the current hardware issues its having now.
