I bought the Assassin's Creed PS Vita bundle during Black Friday on Amazon for $180 and it has finally arrived on my doorstep. I upgraded it to the latest firmware before I got going on it.
Firstly, I am very surprised that the Vita comes with quite a few applications beyond the standard web browser: Skype, Netflix, Youtube, Twitter, an e-mail client, Foursquare, to name a few. While the application selection pales in comparison where a real mobile OS is concerned, I appreciate that these applications are on there, and they cover a good majority of my needs from an Internet-enabled handheld device. Only thing missing is a good banking application, access to cloud synchronization services like Dropbox and Skydrive, and Paypal, but I don't do too much of either anyway.
If Sony can just open up application development to third parties, eliminate the use of proprietary memory, lower the price, and mount some better cameras onto the thing, I can easily see the Vita being a stiff competitor to devices like the iPod Touch.
The PS Vita demonstrates much promise - only if Sony taps into its fullest potential.
