It will come good, make no mistake about it. I know no company has won the war 3 times in a row, but I think it's a different industry now to what is was in the 80's. So mainstream is gaming right now, that the brand name alone will bring Sony back into the picture. A friend in my lectures said to me the other day he was going to buy a PS3.
When I asked "are you serious? you're in college, where are you going to get £425 from?" he said "It's the playstation, I'll get it." which is my point. The name is carrying it. I don't know about over in the US, but over here in the UK I can't see Blu- ray being the reason people buy the PS3, Home seems very exciting, but I still can't see the PSN being as good as XBL. As for games, its neither here nor there for me. 360 has the most games right now, and as for the drought the PS3 is experiencing. It'll overcome that soon enough.
Whether the PS3 will win, I don't know. But theres one thing for sure. It'll gain a huge percentage over the next year or two. I think this gen is going to be the closest ever.

I agree. I still think it will win. But instead of the ridiculous market share Sony possessed last gen, I feel the market will be split almost equally among the 3 companies. But I believe the combination of Sony's brand name appeal, the bundled Blu-ray player (now that HD-DVD is nearly finished, I believe the market for Blu-ray will only increase), and the list of games that has made Sony Sony (FF, MGS, etc... etc...) should be enough to give them a slight victory over the others.

This gen is great, you're right.

All 3 are working hard at getting some great games out, although I think all 3 need to work harder still.

MS need to reduce the price for XBL, Sony need to reduce the price for the PS3, and Nintendo need to work much harder at securing 3rd party titles for their Wii or else it will be the GC scenario again.

Sony will win unless the Wii can carry this momentum forever, which with the coming drought, I just don't see happening. PS3 has no where to go but up, it is still in the fewest territories. It still hasn't had even one of it's biggest games released. (Wii fired off Zelda, so it's unlikely we'll even see another Zelda game on the System, Xbox 360 had Gears of War), PS3 still hasn't had a price drop. March will be much better for Sony, you'll see. And while it may still not outsell the Wii, I have a feeling it will top the 360. But by the time April rolls around no one will be looking back at February NPD numbers anyway.

Agreed. They won't be the market monster that they were last gen, but they are likely to be the market leaders again this gen. Their machine is best built for the HD movement that has been increasingly gaining momentum and they still have a great game lineup that has helped to build Sony's reputation in the first place.

It's likely to be a good gen for gamers no matter which console you own though. I owned all 3 last gen and was pretty disappointed with the xbox. I think that the 360 is off to a much better start. They just need to stop coming out with frickin shooters for every game though.
