PS3 needs to sell 2x the 360 worldwide for 8 months for it to pass the 360 in a year. It currently is selling upwards of 5x the 360. (I know it will drop to a more reasonable ratio) and the whole 8 month thing I mentioned, didnt even take into account Black Friday, in which the systems can jump like a million in that single weekend. Last year the Wii sold 2 million on black friday (the 360 selling 700k and PS3 470k, this was when the 360 was half of PS3s price BTW).

Right now, the PS3 is selling like the Wii. if its selling this much (800k in 2 weeks, 1 million in 3 weeks) right now, and its not even holidays, immagine how much of the gap could be closed this holiday! Not to mention, the japanesse release of Final Fantasy 13 during CHRISTMAS! That game is going to have a Halo 3 level launch over there (to put it in perspective, FF10 launched in japan with a 5 million PS2 userbase in japan, and sold 1.9 mil its first week, IN JAPAN ALONE).

Im going to go on record saying that if things go the way they are going right now, the PS3 could close the gap by the time the holidays are completely over, or at the least, be within 1-2 million. You can put me in your sig, do whatever, but put me down in the books right now.

Also, the 360 and PS3 are currently TIED in TOTAL AAA at gamerankings, and the PS3 is winning in AAAE (and thats even INCLUDING PC/360 Multiplats!!! as 360 AAAE). But that has nothing to do with this thread, just throwing it out there just for the spirit of System Wars:P

its doing it right now. Black Friday Weekend alone, will remove a nice chunk of the gap.

it was a spike in sales, it will sell great and maybe outsold the 360 monthly basis from now on but it won't surpass it in total sales...

I can see that happening, especially at this rate, the Blu-Ray player is really drawing non gamers into it as well.

You're assuming that a sales spike will be sustained in this market. Chances are it won't

the whole 8 months thing, I calculated based on what the 360 is selling right now. if the PS3 sells around double that worldwide each month, it could pass the 360 in about 8 months (but il say a year just to play it safe) . if it sells 3x the 360, it will take around 4 months (but il say half a year, just to play it safe). But that estimate I just made was assuming this was all happening during normal months, and did not take into account the holiday spikes, one of the biggest ones being black friday. During the holidays, userbases can jump like 6 million very quickly. Last september, the 360 was at 21 million, and around november I remember reading MS press releases that they were aproaching 25 million. By the time the new year rolled around, they were almost at 30. Oh, and that Natal article, I just copypasted that crap off of N4G.

I think you are right my friend. I think people will be blown away here by how many units the PS3 moves over the holidays. and now that the economy is improved from last year and we are "officially" out of a recession i think people will have more money to throw around this christmas and that will help PS3 greatly.. MS put themselves in a very tight position.. they are now the same exact price as the PS3, the only selling point of the 360 was its price relative to the PS3 and now they are the same price anyone with common sense deciding which console to buy will buy the PS3 by default. I think this is a turning point and the PS3 era has begun. say what you will about Kaz Hirai but that guy deserves many kudos! when Kaz hirai took over 2 years ago things have been getting better and better on all fronts for the PS3. greatly imrpoved PSN, slew of AAA exclusives back to back to back, slimmer more cheaper model now, Kaz really brought the PS3 back from the brink of disaster.
