I really hate Sony's controllers. While the other companies spend money on designing new and improved controllers, Sony keeps thier bad design from so many years ago.
The whole design isn't ergonomic. Look at the curves in the 360 and last gens GC controller, or the DC pad. Each one was designed to fit your hand. The PS1 controller, was a generation after the snes, and it shows. The controller is basically a snes controller with two handles and two extra shoulder buttons. Fine for back then, but these days controllers have advanced, and sony is still to lazy to fix it up.
Here's some nice proof for you. Look at the original PS1 controller. Note the position of the dpad, why is it there? Obviously because thats the easiest place for your thumb to rest during gameplay. Nintendo came out with an analogue stick, so Sony jumped on the bandwagon and released the dual shock. However, Sony believed the dpad was still the main control input, so put the control stick in a more awkward position below the dpad.
Obviously, over time Sony was shown to be wrong, the analog stick was very much the main feature of the controller. Both Nintendo and Microsoft made sure to put it int he right place. As you can see, the left side of the 360 controller is effectivly a PS controller with the thumb stick and d-pad in reversed positions. This was done for a reason, ergonomics. Sony's reasons for thier positioning however, is due to not wanting to spend money on updating the design. In the life of the console they've never fixed that thing up!
