I would understand if he actually was right, thing he isnt, since those installs take from 1-4 minutes.

Im pretty sure TC was talking about downloading things and installing them (firmware, demos, PSN games) in which case he would be right.

did not sound like it, unless MGS 4 is available as a PSN title

it seems like he has an issue with both, i can understand the downloading and installing things with PSN (i hate them too, especially all the firmware!!:x) but MGS4 install is about 2-3 mins, its actually a good thing for me lol, i use that time like a commercial break during the super bowl lol.
I have a problem with the time spent on downloading and installing demos(Since that's all I've been doing so far.) But I seem to be getting use to it.(While one is downloading, I kill time on my 360.)
But yeah, that's the only problem I have so far. If it's only installs, then I'm fine. But downloading and installing is a bit of a pain.

I agree and the worst part is I play more demos and watch youtube more than I play the actually games.
also Star Wars the FU demo comes to psn and xbl this month.
I wish the MGS4 cinematic installs were at the beginning instead or where they are. I would rather get it all out of the way in one swipe. Installs are fine if they make the game load faster and play better; just think about a computer game with multiple discs that you would have to swap out every so often. I'm pretty used to the idea that I'm gonna have to wait at least 30 minutes before I can play my new game, so I do it like Ron Popeil "Just set it and forget it"dimebag667
They are where they are because of an space issue. The Game Data without the re-installings would most likely be over 7gigs
seriously how long does it take to install updates for certain stuff. i've been waiting about a 2 hours for each episode of siren to be completed. it's so stupid, and i want to play the game asap. same thing happened with mgs4, where i have to wait more than 15 minutes to install the next acts. it's just so inconceiveable. at least the wii and 360 have faster updates, and they don't require installments to play games because it loads right up.caliente_hot
Wow, 15 mins really? I'm starting to think you don't actually have a PS3, and never actually played MGS4.
Its an 8 min install at the begining and 3 mins between acts. 1 min for the last one.
2 things bud, MGS4s installations didnt take 15 minutes EACH more like 7 for the first and 3 for the other following 4 and siren is a full game, please have patience, or get a faster internet connection, but I understand your frustration, when a demo comes out on the psn store it sometimes takes me an hour or 2 to download it while if I were to wait a month it'd only take half an hour :S
I see a lot of people complaining about how the PSN downloads are slow, but I've haven't had any problem with download speeds even during peak usage times. I don't know if it has to do with how close you are to whichever sony server you're downloading but its quick for me (I'm in the midwest). Firmware updates only take maybe 5 min max to download. And if you can't wait 5 minutes, I have no sympathy for you, unless your takes 30, then you've got something there. But I've download demos and movies off the store and they all downloaded pretty fast. Maybe a stupid question in this thread, but does anyone else have good speeds like me?clsnbrdr616
http://www.speedtest.net/ whats your speed ? 5 minutes is quite fast for the update...

now that's just bull right there
Yeah, I have all my consoles wired and I do notice that the PS3 takes the longest to download things.

I'm not very good with kbits, so you'll have to tell me how that rates. :P

:P Yeah I guess that's 1102 KBytes/s. I have a 1MB cable modem and it has always been fast (and it's surprisingly like 7 years old, lol). I mean I feel bad for anyone that's having slow download speeds (which seem to be a lot), but that's why I've been confused on slow downloads for other people. The thing is, I've heard people with even faster modems then me having really slow download speeds. That's why I'm thinking I must live closer to one of sony's servers. I'm not network savvy in anyway so if anyone else has an explaination please share, lol.

Might not be the distance but maybe its just the server you happen to be using is not as popular, hence the extra bandwith...
Also the people with faster 'modems' might have ADSL which like never actually reaches its advertised speed...

NA, midwest, nebraska. Now I have a question for you, do you have good PSN download speeds/times with those rates? :P

I never thought of that. I'm in the midwest, so maybe there is more strain on east and west coast servers (with the bigger cities) then ones in the midwest?

Yeah, I've see that before. Had a friend get a different company than me (that was cheaper) and wondered why his wasn't as fast as mine when they "advertised" the same speed. lol

Mine is supposed to have a supposed 10 Mbps download speed, I guess you must have alot of available bandwidth and I don't :S

Funny because each act when I play MGS took 5 minutes at the most...
i cant say that ive ever had problems with the PSN store in terms of speed. seems fine for me. dont have any games that require a big install for my PS3 so i cant comment on that.
firmware updates are slow though in my experience. it seems that even if sony just make a small change..they still requite the entire firmware to be redownloaded again. that thing is over 100MB. a long downloaded is understandable for a big update or if u havent updated in ages. but the latest version (1.42 i think) still took some time to upgrade from 1.41 and 1.42 just made a few changes to PS1 and 2 playback. not exactly a complete overhaul.

It probably doesn't seem like a big deal until you see the 360 download and install updates literally hundreds of times faster.
