I thought everyone in gamespot has a computerIt seems that around here the majority of the people don't seem to like the PS3 at all.
However, the Xbox doesn't really have anything that the PS3 doesn't have. The Playstation Network works great, and since it's free, in my opinion, it's worth a lot more than the paid for Xbox Live service. Anyway, not a very big deal. Not to mention, a lot of times Computer networks are free, sometimes you do have to pay however.
Secondly, just about every 'exclusive' Xbox game eventually gets ported to the Computer. I'm not trying to down the Xbox, I'm only defending the PS3 here, which actually has some exclusives, that will never be ported to the Computer: LBP, Resistance, MGS4, etc. So, if you have a computer, you won't be missing out much on 360 titles.
Thirdly, blu-ray, which right now may be expensive still, but I think that it will eventually drop down in prices, it already has somewhat. Hopefully the PC will be getting a pretty cheap bluray drive soon as well. That should help lower the price of the movies.
Fourthy, I don't want you guys to get the idea that I'm downing the 360, because I'm not, but when it comes to reliabiltiy, and this is probably my most important issue, the PS3 is much more sturdy than the 360, I've heard so many stories of 'the red ring of death' that I would be terrified to ever buy a 360. I mean, some computers die quickly but I would wager that most of the time they are much sturdier than a 360.
This is just my opinion, don't flame me for it.

My brother has a 360 and we both have a PS3. I agree the PS3 is the much better buy, when it comes to quality, exclusives and reliability Sony has delivered. By the way my brother hardly touches his 360 and he bought it mainly for Halo 3, but COd4 destroyed that game, and he dislikes Geow.WalterPaladines
Let me guess, you live in the State of Denial, right? I wonder why the 360 is smacking the PS3 around in holiday sales if the PS3 is supposedly such a better buy...

truth is, it doesn't really matter imo. Both consoles have their pros and cons and are very similar in the end. Which is also why I find this gen a rather boring one..

When you say anything remotely negative about the 360 this is the kind of response you get. I do personally agree wiht you TC, I have a PS3 and fairly capable gaming rig and have yet to be disappointedIt seems that around here the majority of the people don't seem to like the PS3 at all.

I agree with you 100%.
i dont have a gaming pc, but i still think the ps3 is an overall better package than the 360..
though, i love ToV, hating halo3, and wanting Gears2...
thought the experience might be different between the two, when it comes to gamer preferences...
i just prefer the ps3... :D
plus, i dont worry about RROD, but i dont think thats much of an issue these days though... im getting gears2 eventually, im hoping it wont disappoint...
Â
QUESTION: if your connection lags sometimes even with COD4, is Gears2 worth the MP? i've been hearing awfully many complaints about a number of issues...
[QUOTE="Tragic_Kingdom7"]Why are you always dissin' the ps3? You have only have one and yet you hate on it. i have seen your posts in other threads....why hate on something you own and seem to play according to your sig...doesn't make any sense at all. The 360 may have more quantity..but not quality. You won't find burger king games on the ps3 if you know what i mean. I own 30 blue-ray games and 10 psn games and it has been the best purchase i ever made on a game system...I only got it in April for Gta4 too...so 40 games and a ps3 in around 7 months is pretty damn good, especially when all the games are top notch imo! Wow. So you can't be negative about a console you own? I'd rather have a console and see it for what it is. You on the other hand seem perfectly content to bash something you don't own and probably have had little experience with. The thing is: It doesn't really matter if 360 shares some games with the PC. Not that many people game on a PC, so with the PC/360 games counted and a few 360 exclusives, the 360 undoubtedly has the more fleshed-out library. So that means 360 offers more games for cheaper, which makes the 360 a better buy in many people's eyes. Throw in a more integrated online service and the fact that PS3 tends to get inferior multiplats all too often and I can definitely see why more people choose 360.
I don't game all that often because I'm very busy with college, so I'm perfectly satisfied with PS3's more limited library, but to people who want to get their hands on as many games as possible, buying a more expensive system only to be more limited in what games one can buy doesn't seem all that worth it in spite of some of the technology and dependability that the PS3 offers. Tragic_Kingdom7
Not many people game on the PC? Its cheaper to game on a 360? That not entirely true and somewhat naive. True the up front costs for a gaming PC are staggering compared to a 360. One the other hand, the games for the 360 are much more expensive, online is not free and you may have to shell out money for other features the 360 doesn't come with. Furthermore, you get what you pay for. PC gaming is superior to the PS3 or 360. As for people not gaming on the PC, last time I checked there were 11 million Wow accounts. Piracy has probably hurt the industry more than the consoles.
The TC makes some good points. Many of the console exclusives found on the 360 can be found on the 360, which are far superior. The PS3 on the other hand does have more exclusives not likely to go anywhere else, but the console's price is stiffer.
"Xbox doesn't really have anything that the PS3 doesn't have."
Wrong. I'm not flaming you, but facts are facts. Saying "It's just my opinion" when discussing facts is intellectually dishonest. What does Xbox have that PS3 doesn't? Ample RAM, for one thing. A $200 price point for another. Let's look at some of the other things that the 360 can offer gamers that the PS3 can't.
Streaming Netflix, custom soundtracks, compatibility with universal remotes, media center integration, the ability to install games, low power mode for downloads and controller recharges, the ability to select Marketplace items for download from xbox.com, and we havn't even started talking about what LIVE offers above the bare-bones PSN.
LIVE has multiple layers of screening, which makes playing online head and shoulders better than PSN. You can find players based on Zone, Tru Skill, region, and reputation, and can submit several types of negative feedback effecting undesirable players on a variety of levels. What's more, everyone on LIVE has a headset, meaning that if you play an online game, you're practically guaranteed to have the ability to chat. It's really amusing when PS3 enthusiasts claim that the ubiquity of chat on LIVE is actually bad. Sony made a huge mistake by not including a headset in with their console, and is one of the reasons I don't even consider multiplatform online games on PS3. Another reason is that the vast majority of Multiplatform titles look, run, and play better on the 360. This is reflected by sales, with a few notable exceptions (Tomb Raider: Legend, for example... the exception that proves the rule. It wouldn't even be news if it wasn't such an anomaly.)
So while you may like the PS3/PC combo more than the 360, DO NOT authoritatively claim that the PS3 has everything to offer that the 360 does. It lowers your credability, even here in System Wars.
It seems that around here the majority of the people don't seem to like the PS3 at all.

Agreed, plus the noise of the 360's fans are really loud lol.Jack-o-Thompson
Bah thats not even an issue now, you really need to look into NXE and 1 of its many cool features is downloading your game to the hard drive. Quick 3min download and no more noise. Oh its the 360' fans arent that noisy it was the stupid disc spinning that sounded like a jet taking off.
LOL, TC...going by your argument, the 360 is the better purchase...
Â
See, when you buy a PS3, you also need to buy (or upgrade your existing hardware)Â a PC...just to get the same gaming experience 360 get right out of the box.
So you need to spend $400-600 plus...hmmm...lets say $1000 for a computer. You end up paying more than $1000 to play 360 games.   Â
Â
You end up paying lots of money to play subpar ports...or you can spend $199 + $30 (hard drive) to get the real thing (you don't need xbl to play games, so don't go there).
Â
Hmmm....if the PS3 is so great, why do you want to play 360 games?

Fair enough. I will tackle each of these points from my own perspective. So far I own a Xbox360 and Wii this generation and I would not mind at all adding a PS3 to the collection in the future. The main reason for my choice of the 360 over the PS3 was for backwards compatibility on exclusive titles that I missed out on the original Xbox (even if their backwards compatibility list is lackluster).
First, I primarily use my consoles for single-player and offline multiplayer. I've only used the Xbox live service for the one-month trial and it was a very satisfying experience. I might be willing to pay money for it in the future, but I mostly play multiplayer-online games on my PC (Examples counter-strike and starcraft).
Second, currently I'm in college so my funds aren't very high. I own a laptop that was purchased in 2006, but it can only play 04' and older games at the highest settings. Therefore, if I want to experience a game like Oblivion on my computer without worrying about the performance lag and system crashing I would have to put it on the lowest setting available. The Xbox360 is an alternative to this problem. At a much cheaper price than a High-end PC, it can give me a experience closer to what the developers originally intended without making too many concessions.
Third, blu-ray is certainly one of the advantages the PS3 has over the Xbox360.I can certainly see myself buying blu-ray discs in the future if more computers become compatiable with them. If we are strictly talking about gaming, however, It won't have a significant effect on my gaming experience.
Finally, yes it appears that Sony and Microsoft have switched sides this generation. I had to buy two PS2s last generation. The first PS2's disc reader died, but the second one is still going strong. Both of them couldn't read PS1 games after a few months, which is a problem that many other PS2 owners have also had with older versions of the console.
Even I can admit that I was hesitant before buying my 360 last year and in fact did research on the internet to see whether the problem had been fixed. The 360 that I eventually bought came with a Falcon Motherboard, which supposedly has helped to fix the RROD problem. I haven't encountered the rings yet, but the thought is always in the back of my mind.
Â
Actually i have been thinking of switching lately from my 360 Elite to a PS3 the bit about reliability has definitely been on my mind alot especially since the new dashboard has caused people alot of freeze ups and RROD recently.
I myself have even got a freeze up after i updated to the new dashboard, so i'll probably wait until friday or saturday call around to local game stores in search of the best looking 60 Gig PS3 refurb they have and go swap it out.
Besides i'm having trouble living without Ratchet & Clank T.O.D, Resistance 1-2, and MGS-4, not to mention the later to be released God of War 3.Â

That's why as a gamer it's truly best to be involved in every platform available. There's always something out there on any of them. I want to get a PS3 myself, but I'll wait until the price inevitably drops to under $200. Besides there are plenty of games great games this gen that I still haven't played on the two consoles I own.

*sigh* *rolling my sleeves back*
PS3 probably doesn't have any way to prevent the griefers does it for its free network access? How reliable is it?
Not all of the 360 exclusives go to the PC, however, if they do, do you really want to switch over to your PC just to play a game? It just means you have to have dual machines just to play games & you'll be paying full price for the PC version of the game when the 360 version of that game will probably be $20 or less by the time the PC version rolls up.
I still don't own any blu-ray device & I feel I am missing out on nothing. I'd have to buy a new TV to make use of its features & that's a waste of money.
When the PS3 dies, chances are you'll be out of warranty & have to buy a new one. When the 360 dies, I call up Mr. Softy, they send me a replacement..good for 3 years! I only paid for the Xbox once & I'm going to be on my 3rd Xbox. All it cost me was a little time & inconvenience.
If you have tons of cash to blow on a gaming PC & a console, I'd recommend buying the PS3.
How are cows "hiding" behind a PC? You should edit that to say cows hiding behind facts of life LOL. I have a gaming PC. Give me your best reason why I should drop an extra few hundred dollars on a 360 when I can already play most of its top games? XBL? Oh wait, PC had been doing internet gaming for much longer and has programs like Xfire to do all the friend and game tracking/chatting, etc. I actually prefer the consoles for games like sports, racing, and FPS. So my choice again is a few hundred dollars for a duplicated effort on 360, or a PS3 that allows me to play all the multiplat games I prefer to play on the console + PS3 exclusives I cant play anywhere else.I am SO bored of cows hiding behind the PC.

People really just do not understand quite how many people litterally do not care about gaming on the PC.

Yes you are. But that's ok. Although exaggerated, it's a fair point. BUT-Some people don't want to or don't have a PC powerful enough to play them on a PC, so that point is moot for quite a few people. I know all PS3 fanboys have uber machines and are rich, but some people don't have it like that. Therefore the 360 is a good deal for them.Secondly, just about every 'exclusive' Xbox game eventually gets ported to the Computer. I'm not trying to down the Xbox,Â

I didn't know you represented all gamers everywhere. Damn that must be pretty cool.
Back to reality: Not everyone has a PC capable of playing a lot of current games, so the 360 is good for them.
It's one of the most moronic arguments in System Wars: "The 360 isn't worth it because a lot of their games are on the PC" As if everybody:
A:Wants to play the game on the PC
or
B:Has access to a PC powerful enough that can play a ported 360 game.Â
I have 3 PCs and 2 of them are pretty powerful and I still prefer playing most of my games on the 360 because most of my friends are gaming on the 360 and it's easy to connect to them through live.

A:Wants to play the game on the PC
or
B:Has access to a PC powerful enough that can play a ported 360 game.
