Yeah at leats $1,000 for a work able rig or $199.chaoz-king

At least $1000, plus at least $400 for a PS3...all of that so you can get the same (if you like subpar ports) experience that $199 will get you (well, add $30 for a hard drive).

I got Far Cry 2 on PC and regretted it. I had to go in and manually change some of the games config files just to get it to run in an un-windowed state. Furthermore, there is no Surround Sound on the PC version. It looks and runs better than the 360, but in the end, I would have rather purchased the 360 version. (Not the inferior looking PS3 version, which can't compete with the other versions despite the mandatory install.)
Another reason console gaming is a good idea... you can't trade in old PC games. God, if I could trade in SPORE, I'd do it in a New York minute.
It seems that around here the majority of the people don't seem to like the PS3 at all.
However, the Xbox doesn't really have anything that the PS3 doesn't have. The Playstation Network works great, and since it's free, in my opinion, it's worth a lot more than the paid for Xbox Live service. Anyway, not a very big deal. Not to mention, a lot of times Computer networks are free, sometimes you do have to pay however.
Secondly, just about every 'exclusive' Xbox game eventually gets ported to the Computer. I'm not trying to down the Xbox, I'm only defending the PS3 here, which actually has some exclusives, that will never be ported to the Computer: LBP, Resistance, MGS4, etc. So, if you have a computer, you won't be missing out much on 360 titles.
Thirdly, blu-ray, which right now may be expensive still, but I think that it will eventually drop down in prices, it already has somewhat. Hopefully the PC will be getting a pretty cheap bluray drive soon as well. That should help lower the price of the movies.
Fourthy, I don't want you guys to get the idea that I'm downing the 360, because I'm not, but when it comes to reliabiltiy, and this is probably my most important issue, the PS3 is much more sturdy than the 360, I've heard so many stories of 'the red ring of death' that I would be terrified to ever buy a 360. I mean, some computers die quickly but I would wager that most of the time they are much sturdier than a 360.
This is just my opinion, don't flame me for it.
the x360 build quality sucks no doubt, but everything else, its better. It seems that around here the majority of the people don't seem to like the PS3 at all.

I have a PC and still use my 360 WAY more... infact, i'd rather have a 360 over PS3 and a PC anyday, because the majority of the PC games come to 360 and the majority of the PS3 games come to 360, so you win both with that console.I'm an avid gamer, and have a 50" 1080p LCD tv, an Xbox 360 Elite and PS3, as well as a high end computer, and I only use my PS3 for blu-ray nowadays, simply because most of the games on there I either dont care for or can play on my 360.smarb001Same here. Except for the giant tv part.

why, oh, why does this persist? it's NOT true. despite its lost exclusives, it's still in second place as far as games go.Â
Let's see Geow, Mass effect, Halo 1 and 2 came out on PC. Also the world league of competitive gaming or whatever is called put Geow 2 in their calendar of activities. This league supports competitions on a PC, and them putting Geow 2 on their calendar...... you figure out the rest. The PC benefits from the existence of the 360, with some great games being converted over. Likewise the 360 benefits from getting ports from the PC where other consoles don't. Why see this as a negative? I'm not interested in using my PC for games as I use for other purposes. Its one of things that attracted me to the 360 in the first place.
If you have a PS3 AND gaming rig that's fine the point is valid. For most people where gaming is a recreational pastime and not an obsessive hobby, then having the both is probably an unnecessary expense.PS3+Gaming PC > Xbox? Sounds right. Why do people always include the PC when it's a seperate machine?
Compare the 2 consoles for what they are, not what others offer. As it stands, Xbox library > PS3.
BTW, isn't it funny how these topics appear days before the Holiday shopping season begins? Maybe if Sony spent more time on research and development and less time on cheesy viral marketing, they might actually avoid being shelacked by the 360 in holiday sales in NA...AlphaGamer469
Are you actually accusing me of being a Sony affiliate? Lmao, you should have seen my posts about a year or two ago. It was all negative towards Sony, as I stated in my original post, I really got angry with Sony after the PS2.
Fair enough. I will tackle each of these points from my own perspective. So far I own a Xbox360 and Wii this generation and I would not mind at all adding a PS3 to the collection in the future. The main reason for my choice of the 360 over the PS3 was for backwards compatibility on exclusive titles that I missed out on the original Xbox (even if their backwards compatibility list is lackluster).
First, I primarily use my consoles for single-player and offline multiplayer. I've only used the Xbox live service for the one-month trial and it was a very satisfying experience. I might be willing to pay money for it in the future, but I mostly play multiplayer-online games on my PC (Examples counter-strike and starcraft).
Second, currently I'm in college so my funds aren't very high. I own a laptop that was purchased in 2006, but it can only play 04' and older games at the highest settings. Therefore, if I want to experience a game like Oblivion on my computer without worrying about the performance lag and system crashing I would have to put it on the lowest setting available. The Xbox360 is an alternative to this problem. At a much cheaper price than a High-end PC, it can give me a experience closer to what the developers originally intended without making too many concessions.
Third, blu-ray is certainly one of the advantages the PS3 has over the Xbox360.I can certainly see myself buying blu-ray discs in the future if more computers become compatiable with them. If we are strictly talking about gaming, however, It won't have a significant effect on my gaming experience.
Finally, yes it appears that Sony and Microsoft have switched sides this generation. I had to buy two PS2s last generation. The first PS2's disc reader died, but the second one is still going strong. Both of them couldn't read PS1 games after a few months, which is a problem that many other PS2 owners have also had with older versions of the console.
Even I can admit that I was hesitant before buying my 360 last year and in fact did research on the internet to see whether the problem had been fixed. The 360 that I eventually bought came with a Falcon Motherboard, which supposedly has helped to fix the RROD problem. I haven't encountered the rings yet, but the thought is always in the back of my mind.

Yes, like I said in a previous post in this topic, even if the first three issues did not exist I am just simply afraid to buy a 360 for the slight chance of a rrod attack.
I can understand your logic of wanting to play the game on the original machine it was intended for. My main point wasn't that the computer version was better, or even (like so many people thought I meant) that you needed to go buy a high end PC, as I stated in the name of my topic IF YOU HAVE a computer, it seems that everyone is missing this detail. However, I've never actually played these ports, I've only gone by what my room-mates have told me, and that is that they actually prefered the computer versions, I just assumed that the PC versions were actually higher quality the console versions. Two of my room-mates are very avid PC gamers, and like I said, they would much rather play a game on the PC than on a console.
Ironically enough, I've actually argued with them before that a console game just feels more natural, but not to them. I'm more of a console gamer myself, but I figured we were just on two opposite sides of the spectrum, and that the majority of people fall somewhere between, like my third room-mate.
Anyways, this is all besides the point, and the point is, thank you for responding in such an informed way, and responding to everything I said.
[QUOTE="Franklinstein"]Yes you are. But that's ok. Although exaggerated, it's a fair point. BUT-Some people don't want to or don't have a PC powerful enough to play them on a PC, so that point is moot for quite a few people. I know all PS3 fanboys have uber machines and are rich, but some people don't have it like that. Therefore the 360 is a good deal for them.Secondly, just about every 'exclusive' Xbox game eventually gets ported to the Computer. I'm not trying to down the Xbox,

Well, as I said in the title of the topic, 'especially if you have', as in you already own one.
Cows make it sound like the PS3 and a high end PC come in the same pack! PC + PS3 VS 360 = $2000 VS $199 :roll:PAL360
First off, I'm not a cow.
Secondly, in the title of my topic, if you take a little glance up there, you'll see I wrote 'especially if you have', meaning, you already own a PC.
Can someone create a gif of a PS3 quivering in fear behind a PC.
Â
Fwiw, I have several 'Computers'. None of them run Windows and none of them have gaming hardware. Even if they did I wouldn't play games on them, I was a hardcore PC gamer for years and switched, best gaming decision I ever made.

I agree with you. When you are young you dont mind spending the time messing around with PC's and can actually have some fun but as you get older the urge to just buy a console that will simply play every game you throw at it without worry is simply too strong :)What about upgrades? It isn't as simple as just owning a PC then you can play every game out or coming out, you'd need to upgrade and also wait a year or more for the release (such as Halo 2) on the PC. Also the title implies that even without a gaming PC the PS3 is a better buy. Which makes some of your points for the PS3 moot.First off, I'm not a cow.

Regarding 'RROD' it's more or less a scare tactic now.. (which is pathetic, trying to scare people out of buying a console) unless you have terrible luck and buy a 360 that was released with the older chip in it, then you shouldn't have many problems with RROD. I've had my 360 for two years and not had RROD once, so either A) It's one of the newer ones in the production line or B) I'm taking good care of my console.
I highly doubt if you buy new you'll end up with one of the "Time-Bombs" you'd have to be very unlucky, also some people let this roll past them and over-worry even when thier 360 is fine. But only a certain "red-ring" combination means that the 360 is screwed, some people get the red rings and think "thats it it's screwed gotta take it back.." even when the next day It could be fine. Hell someone I knew panicked after getting the red rings because he didn't plug it in properly
Someone also tried purposefully RROD'ing a 360 with one of those new chips in. He couldn't do it, no matter what he did he couldn't get it to RROD. He managed to get just red rings once or twice but it was fine after turning it off and on again. The failure rates of the new models are alot lower and RROD is thrown about as if it happens to literally everyone without fail. Don't get fooled by the scare tactics of sad lonely fanboys, If you can afford it theres not much reason to avoid trying what the 360 has to offer. Even if you do get RROD (how many times have I said RROD?..) then you can just send it back for free to Microsoft.
It really isn't a good enough reason to not get a 360 anymore.
