The PS3 is the last priority for game devs: With "proof"

by "proof" i mean i have a friend who has a coop job this term at a game developer in BC who has told me a bunch of stuff I didnt know about the gaming industry. I can't disclose the developer as if anything got back to the company he would be sued. I dont wanna be a dick

- most game devs HATE the PS3. Its unecessarily difficult to program for. Something that would take an hour programming for 360 will take days for PS3

- because of such a big install base,,, developers always strive to make the best possible game they can for the 360, and try and port it as best as they can for the PS3 afterwards. If there's any graphical inferiorities or glitches in ports, its because they have such a difficult time programming for the PS3 and has nothing to do with the PS3's inferiority.

- If they weren't forced by their publishers,, they wouldnt bother porting or developing for the PS3 at all

- the 360 is the unanimously preferred console by all multiplat developers.

Before anybody even attempts to call me a lemming,,, i dont even own a 360, and have been labelled a PS3 fanboy around here. Im no fanboy, i just bought what I consider the best console, If M$ didnt have such crap hardware and free online I wouldve probably gotten a 360

After 2 years the developers are still being blamed. If the gpu power is simply not there (with or without the cell, the ps3 came out a year later - they should have had a superior gpu - just like the xbox and the ps2 gpus), then the amazing graphics wont be there.

If after 2 years this excuse is still being used, im sure it will e used for another 2-3 years. I honestly feel sorry for the PS3 users for being lied to about the photorealistic graphics they were expecting. I wanted the PS3 initially because of Blu Ray and it being the best looking consolem but graphically it never impressed me.

PS3s 09 is full of undated games that might very well slip into 2010. GOW, GT5, FFV13, Heavy Rain are all unconfirmed and completely undated.

For gamers 360 is the way to go. It has 200+ more games, a better online, more A, AA, and AAA. And its cheaper to purchase. I dont see how PS3 is the gamers choice.

Most gamers this gen chose the Wii or the 360. Cows will never admit that many of the PS3s sold are in the hands of home theater enthusiasts.

Im sorry but you seem like a guy who loves his PS2 and will buy any Sony console that bears the name playstation. I had a gamecube last gen and now a 360.

Loyalty isnt given, its EARNED. Clearly any gamer, not just a lemming, can say that 360 is the gamers choice over PS3.

By the way who ever said the 360 was the console of choice ? because it's easier to develop for ? who cares ? not our problem.

All dev's are paid to turn out the same quality product for the consoles they develop for, thats what they get paid to do, and today's dev migraines over the PS3's dev kit could be tomorrows smiles once they master it.

360 uses PC architecture and thats what most games are developed with so of course dev's are going to prefer what's easier it's the same with any task at a job.

Does a UPS driver prefer lifting the 85-lb box by hand and walking it 2 city blocks or is it easier to use his hand truck and wheel it all the way ?....DUH we know the answer to that.

Bottom line is everyone is replaceable and if any one person or developer doesn't want to develop for the PS3 than that person either loses their job or that company loses money.

Simple as that, so what developers "prefer " to develop for, is irrelevant they must provide software for the hardware that exists in the market, period.

Best example is the Wii, it might not be that hard to develop for but dev's can't do much with it's out of date hardware thats why only first party titles get any descent reviews on the Wii, hence all the shovelware.

Being a software developer I can say that the development tools (which Microsoft have been developing for long time, a very long time) their focus with this console was certainly to make it easier to get the most out of it. But the architecture of the 360 is very much based on the power PC architecture, well it is just a multi-core power pc. Sony have always generally gone for more specialist type architectures, the PS2 was a RISC chip (I could go into more detail but that will do). When you begin dealing with specialist components like that in the Playstations you generally have to rely on what Sony give you to begin your development projects, this includes needing to develop the tools required to create the projects. So it isn't any wonder why the PS3 was more difficult to develop for.

That said though, it has been a couple of years now, and the tools that have been developed are getting better and making better use of the hardware as they learn more about the system. So I doubt that it is any harder to develop for the PS3 now than the 360.

Also something that takes an hour to code on the 360 takes days on the PS3. Mmm, um, a very exagerated claim and without any specifics certainly one that can't be proven. Plus it might be him as a developer as well. It might have taken him days on the PS3, but give that same task to someone else and it might take them hours. It is all subjective.
