So much for the 'and its a cheap blu ray player!' argument

It was when it launched, $600 PS3, or $1000 Blu ray player. I think it was a no brainer to buy the PS3.
Here's a question. Have you ever been black friday shopping? Everyone knows that electronics are in extremely limited quantities and the chance a normal shopper will get one is like 1/1M chance. Everyone knows the competition is still among consoles and the Wii may still be the one to beat.

True but a lot of these players dont update themselves, i mean the PS3 does and in one update added Bluray Live 2.0 im sure where as most likely this player doesnt have as much functionalities if you will compared to the more expensive one.So in essence the PS3 is still a mighty fine deal :P mainly due to the fact its much more able to keep up with the blu-ray standards which change as time progresses.
Er...if only Black Friday shopping were that easy. I challenge TC to go out on Black Friday, actually obtain one of these $78 Blu-Ray players, and post pics + receipt to prove it. Good luck with that.
I agree, when Bubba Joe Sixpak is down at Wal*Mart this xmas and decides he wants 'one of them new fangled bloo ray dee vee dee players' and he sees $78 for one player, then 299 for the PS3, which do you think he's going to pick? Especially given the current economic climate?
Nice try, that arguement was used a year or two back.
Obviously these days you don't buy a PS3 just for the BR, but it's still a great additional feature.
Guess it's not so obvious to TC.

nothing special, most people on here
cows,sheep and lemmings
still use the same excuses as before

No....Just....no. That Blu Ray player doesn't have an ethernet port, and isn't upgradeable via firmware, if I recall, thus making it pretty much useless. You get what you pay for. I have a Samsung BD-1600 that also streams Netflix, Blockbuster, Pandora, You Tube, and more. I think I saw it on sale for $150 somewhere, recently.Nice try, that arguement was used a year or two back.

You're absolutely right. Because buying the PS3 just for BluRay is a rip off. Considering there are faster, generally better stand-alone BluRay players on the market now, than the PS3, that are also less expensive.I think the PS3 Slim is going to destroy this Christmas. Which kid would be unhappy with a PSTrey Uncharted 2 bundle?
No kid would be unhappy to get a PS3, because it's better than nothing.I think the PS3 Slim is going to destroy this Christmas. Which kid would be unhappy with a PSTrey Uncharted 2 bundle?

Blu-ray players have way cheaper than the ps3 for a year + now, but people still buy it. It is just like the ps2 being a cheap dvd player when it came out.Its the $78 Blu Ray player:

[QUOTE="mr-krinkles"]No kid would be unhappy to get a PS3, because it's better than nothing. Well I don't think a kid would be happier getting a 360 or a Wii for Christmas. PS3 Slim is where the hype is these days.I think the PS3 Slim is going to destroy this Christmas. Which kid would be unhappy with a PSTrey Uncharted 2 bundle?

lol when i was living in chicago black friday was madness, down in the states we did it up rightwise. up here in canada the closest thing ive experienced was boxing dayand that is still pretty tame, same in australia. in south america they didnt bother with sales; everything was just dirt cheap all the time, and usually not worth buying.
that said i dont know if a lot of people are still buying the ps3 for blu ray purposes, but i could be wrong.
Oh Man, you people still don't get it yet. The biggest and best thing about having a Blu-Ray player in the PS3 is not for the stupid blu-ray movies. It's the massive storage space of the disc that game developers can utilize to make massive size games, or G.O.T.Y. edition games including all DLC on one disc. Get it ONE DISC, not 4 or 5 like will soon be needed for the 360, as it is there are already talks that Bethesda could make Elder Scrolls 5 a PS3 exclusive because of the size of the game. So please give it up already there is no logical argument for the 360's behalf, it's stuck using the old DVD 9's and that just isn't enough anymore. Aside from all that other stuff, ya' know the Free online Sony has, the built in Wi-Fi, rechargeable controller, The new 400gb capacity Blu-Ray discs, The upgradeable internal laptop hard drives to above 500gb. The 360's a dinosaur already. Its the $78 Blu Ray player:

Wal-mart $78 Blu Ray player am confirmed.
You honestly think the average bumpkin is going to care about firmware updates for 229$ less? No he just wants a blu ray to go with his 26" Insignia brand hdtv
but ppl like them usually get 360 or wii because they are easy to mod.[QUOTE="Jacumov"]but ppl like them usually get 360 or wii because they are easy to mod.http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/34000912/ns/business-retail/
