Link. Retailers want it off the shelves, consumers have lost interest, and Sony knows it's time to do something.  The DS wiped the floor with the PSP.  To all the DS haters in the beginning I have one thing to say:

PSP was never alive. It's a handheld made of ports, bad ones at that, and hand wrenchingly bad controls. Though the hacking and emulation community is alive and well.

PS: DA_B0MB ur sig is amazing

That's why it has sold over 20 million units, and has more AAA titles than the DS right? And the reason why DS is beating it in sales is because it's a lot cheaper.

What's the point of a "portable" if it won't easily slide into your front pocket? The whole idea of a portable is to take it anywhere comfortably. It's way too big and akward for that. And who wants to watch movies on such a small screen?

It tried to be everything, but did nothing well.

I am surprised retailers didn't threaten to pull the gamecube and xbox off of shelves. The psp seems to be selling ok to me. One million in december and over 200,000 in January.

Here's the big difference: Sony refuses to lower the price, where both the Gamecube and xbox lowered in price to correlate with their demand. If Sony wasn't so stubborn retailers would have been fine.

The PSP is trailing the DS, yes... but it is far from dead.... it has sold in less than two years what it took an entire gen for the xbox and GC to sell. Hopefully there will be a price drop soon though. There are a few games on there I've been wanting to check out, I'll probably get one soon.

And yet, the PSP is still selling more than either of those systems in less time. 1up is not really a reliable news source anyway, I highly doubt that retailers are threatening to pull a product that is still selling pretty well. 20M in less than two years is not a sales slump.

Either you don't have both or your taste in games SUCKS. post a picture of both. I have both sitting next to me right now, and it took me all of 20 minutes to realize just how much I was missing on my 2 year old PSP that the DS has had for a loong time. it's a difference in philosophy that show's up in the games.

Why would they need to lower the price with it selling well in Nov/Dec/Jan. (that is my point). With that being said , the retailers are over-reacting and being drama queens over something that is going to probably take place this month or very soon anyway.

PSP is still alive and well. What Sony needs to do is just DROP THE FREAKIN PRICE ALREADY!!!! Also developers, STOP MAKING PORTS!!!! Make something original for us already, that's why no one buys the PSP. They can already play the samke game on their console.

you cant call something dead that is still selling. Only blind fanboys can see that the psp is dead. Hell if you want to see something dead, look at the XBOX and Gamecube. Those are officially dead since like 1 of 10000 people buy it nowadays

plus it does what nintendo does best, it appeals to everyone. i love my DS and PSP, but i've seen a lot more people get addicted to Tramua Center faster than any of my PSP games. but the psp isn't dead, as stated by someone above, it has a lot of AA And AAA games, and I couldn't stop playing SOCOM or WTF. and the link doesn't say the psp is dead, but that Sony plans a redisign

Yea saying the psp is only ports is dumb. And I dont see anyone complaining they can play Madden or NHL07 on the go and online.

I have both handhelds, and honestly prefer the PSP.

The DS has alot of great niche games for sure, and some great support from some of my favourite comanies like Atlus and Square-Enix.

What I really enjoy about the PSP though is that I can get a console-type experience without having to have my TV on, or while I'm lying in bed. There really are some great titles, and the release list is picking up steam.

I'm a big RPG fan, so both systems are lacking to me in my favourite area (not counting GBA titles), but for every other genre of game...especially action sports & racing, the PSP blows the DS out of the water. Generally if a game is released on both systems, the PSP version is far superior as well

Lumines was a remake? Field Commander was a remake? Tokobot a remake? Loco Roco a remake? Metal Gear Acid Series a remake? Sorry but you can say the same thing for the PSP.

And games like Tekken: DR, Daxter, MGS:PO, Burnout, Syphon Filter, Wipeout Pure, SOCOM, GTA: LCS and VCS, Killzone Liberation, Ratchet and Clank, Ace Combat, etc, are not remakes but new entires in established franchises.

[QUOTE="BuddaX"]Brain Age was a remake? Nintendogs was a remake? Club House games was a remake? Phoenix Wright? Hotel Dusk? Sorry your wrong.

And games like NSMB, Castlevania, Advance Wars, ect, are not remakes but new entries in established franchises.

Not to mention God of War coming out for the PSP end of 07!

The PSP is dead when Sony announces they are discontinuing it, not before.
