The Real Reason Behind EPIC Debunking The Gears / PS3 Story.

is it because it's not true, or is it because they thought lashing out at MS publicly would only further damage the publisher/developer relations with MS?

We all knew the story is true about Epic was unhappy regarding charging for downloadable content.

And we also knew (from Major Nelson burns Epic in the free downloadable content debate) that MS was also unhappy about Epic regarding the same incident.

So, if the issue was big enough for both companies to keep themselves from lashing out at each other publicly, should we then believe a PR debunk stunt from Epic that tells us otherwise?

P.S. please no fanboysim, just asking for your thoughts (i.e. look at the story from the perspective of an intelligent unbiased observer and figure out what it means).

Why is it all fanboy flamebait comes with the disclaimer "please no fanboyism"? Your thinking isn't intelligent or unbiased its convoluted and grasping. The fact is MS and Epic have jabbed at each other in the past (not at a business level, big shots in the company talking trash) but debunking a claim that they are "going to bring Gears to the PS3" is just common sense because its a breach of contract.

You do realize you are referring to a major corporation (MS) and another game developer (epic). They are not children. They will not "get upset" about some silly issues that would make one company (epic) get possibly sued over even thinking of saying they will put gears on ps3 (esp since they have legally binding contracts giving MS full rights over gears 1 and gears 2).

The story isn't true or the devs at epic are idiots who thought they could say whatever they wanted when they are legally tied to MS. I tend to believe the story isn't true because I don't want to believe cliff and team are morons and were told by epic (and their privately held owner) to shut up.

That's not Epic's call. They are privately held and can or will be sold by the firm that owns them.

I'd laugh.

This game here has probably been Epic's most profitable venture ever.

Its like...How many companies who never used the Unreal 3 Engine before...The minute Geow came out. Are now all signing up to use it? We have SquareEnix and EA just for starters who never used it before.

Not to mention they opened up the Consule Market for them for the first time. They now have Unreal for PC and GeoW for Consule.

And you know they are making a small forture on Geow. It still is selling decently. And who knowns...A price drop and it could rise again. 

Geow probably has been the best promotion ever(Or atleast since the first Unreal Tournament) for Epic.  

And too be honest. I highly doubt epic is that upset. By saying MS wants to charge...They can reap even more profit and still keep face.

We may be talking about next-next gen by then....Im have a sneaking suspicion MS will release the successor to the 360 or one will be announced (or rumors of one) around 2012.

PS3 has the potential of lasting around past 2012 at least from a tech standpoint (excluding the horribly outdated GFX card that will be ancient by then).

But MS will maybe work out a deal to make Gears Of War 3 a "next-box" launch game...

If they wanted to do as you said, they'd have made a huge announcement. They didn't. Mark Rein simply replied in a topic on the gears forum saying, quote "that story is complete bull****."

 We all knew they made it up; the story was taken from an IGN blog.

I think part of it was a blatant lie and the rest blown way out of proportion. We all know Epic is not happy with how MS is running their online services for Gears. They wanted to release the maps as free and MS wouldn't let them. Not to mention the Podcast that really unearthed a few problems Epic had. However, I don't believe Epic or Cliffy B would threaten to port Gears to the PS3. It would be a illegal and kill Epic's reputation.Ibacai

It's nowhere near as bad as that, though. They wanted to give them away for free, the microsoft employees who marketed the game for them thought that was a bad idea. Like Mark Rein said, they both just had different ideas of what would keep the game popular online; so they compromised with charging to get them early before releasing them for free. And the cost is very, very small to buy them anyway.

It's hardly microsoft forcing them to do something they dont want to do, or a huge rift between them. Fanboys just blow it all out of proportion.

Even if the Cell and BluRay can last 10years. There is no way in hell its GFX card is. It was already outdated the day it came out.

...i believe if Epic didnt sign a contract with Microsoft then we'd be seeing Gears on PS3 and we wouldve seen an earlier port to the PC. It has nothing to do with fanboys, companies just want to make money and sell 5 mil copies on 360 plus 5 mil copies on ps3 plus 5 mil on pc brings way more money than just 5 mil on one platform.kamuix

Actually gears wouldnt have been made if they didnt sign the contract. MS paid for the development of GeoW. Everyone on the Gears team is paid by MS so they basically paid for the development of the map packs. Thats why MS has the right to charge for them.

if epic can somehow find a way(contract wise) to bring the game to the PS3 there definatly gonna take it. it will make enormous profits and will if epic dont want they they crazy!Morhavoc_IRL

Actually what I really meant to say is that a that time 2012 the RSX will be outdated as hell...of course so will the 360's GFX card. Forgive me I was very tired at the time (32 hour day)

Its just that Sony keeps saying the PS3 will last for 10 years and then some.....

Well thats all well and good I dont have to worry about a PS4 for 10 years, but if MS rolls out a new system in 5 years that outclasses the PS3 in every way (with the HD era more mainstream we will seee HUGE differences in gaming tech) it will probably force Sony to release a PS4 a year or two after that.

Or I could just be playing my PS3 for 10 years I guess..I dont mind upgrading every 5 years, as I have a job and make good money. Im a gamer and 5 years is a lot coming from a PC players standpoint, anything after that is cherry. (PS1 and PS2)

If that happened, I would cry. Much like that sellout idiot from Lionhead Studios who allowed M$ to buy them out and he left the company shortly after, I think it was the president who said they would not be bought out, and look what happened! Looks like that Black & White game for the DS is never coming out, nor will we ever see another installment of that franchise again :cry:
