It's because of a lack of effort, for the most part. Okay, I'll explain in an easy way. Resident Evil 4, for the gamecube, was considered one of the most beautiful looking games of the time. The Wii is supposed to be 2 times as powerful as the Gamecube. That means, there should be games with graphics twice as good as RE4's. The closest I've seen to this it The Conduit and SSBB. It's really a lack of effort.

A 2x increase in hardware specs does not equate a 2x jump in perceived quality. The more hardware powere available, the more difficult it becomes to actually utilize it.

I thought it was because the graphics are bad, in comparison to the games found on every other platform.

A lot of games look awful considering the platform its on. Compare a game like Modern Warfare for Wii -- to a game like Super Mario Galaxy. One had effort put into it -- the other is a quick cash grab.

That doesn't mean developers can and will use it properly. Notice how the Wii's 1st party games are better graphically than 3rd party games. Nintendo knows how to use the system's power better than others do.

My guess is that most developers understand that Wii graphics can't compete, so they focus on fine-tuning the motion controls (though usually not enough).

If you're a talented developer then having 2x increase in hardware will equate to almost 2x jump in precieved quality, Compare Mario Sunshine to Mario Galaxy. Galaxy has more detailed models, more/better special effects, higher resolution textures, runs at widescreen resolution and at twice the framerate. In many cases it looks like a low end Xbox 360 game. I would say the Wii being 2x more powerful then the Gamcube really showed itself here and the precieved quality jump is about 2x in the case of Mario Galaxy, at least in my eyes.

I think Wii's biggest visual flaw is lack of HD.

The Xbox-like engines don't really bother me, but Nintendo really underestimated the adoption of HDTVs. Even the original Xbox had 5.1 surround sound and 720p support.

It's not because Devs are lazy or else the same devs that make games for MS and Sony would make crap games for those consoles.

The Wii just flat out doesn't have enough power. It' s like the Wii is a Pony and the 360 and PS3 are sports cars, they just don't have a chance in the graphical department.

theres a lot of games that utilize the Wiis graphics. i dont know about maxing out but Mario Galaxy and Metroid Prime...pretty much all the first party games look pretty good as well as a FEW third party games. Definatly not as good as the 360 or PS3 but thats not what the Wii was built for.

Many people think the Wii has bad graphics because of the very little effort many developers put into it. You can clearly see the difference between Nintendo's products (graphically) and third-party products (graphically). It's because Nintendo actually cares about the system, while third-party developers look at the Wii, and all they see is an opportunity to make a quick buck off innocent casuals.

All of Nintendo's products look great, so if you really want to judge the Wii's awesomeness graphically, you should look at their products, and not others'.

I've always thought the Wii's graphical abilities were pretty good, and really nice to look at. i think a lot of people are trying to hard to discredit what the the wii is actually capable of. There's not much difference between the gamecube and the wii, and both are pretty capable of some very pretty graphics, just look at metal gear solid twin snakes, super monkey ball, super mario sunshine, f zero gx and also metroid prime just to name a few. takes more than 'inferior visuals' to put this gamer off games, actually bad game design and gameplay does exactly that.

The reason many people think the Wii has bad graphics, are the comparatively bad graphics to other consoles. That's how things work. When someone raises the bar then the things below it get judged by the new level of the bar. When you hit a certain distance below the bar you then become "bad". Just like "good" graphics evolve over time so do "bad" graphics because it's all just a comparison between the best and what you're comparing it to.

They aren't called Factor 5 anymore, they are now called White Harvest and porting the Rogue Squadron Trilogy to the Wii. But it will take a while to make a new game, with their next games being Pilotwings and some Superman game.

The Wii is an Xbox so how exacly do you expect developers to put effort when they know it won't look anyhing close to curent gen consoles? Wii is only for waggle controlls and play with your family once per week.

akira2465

Except which developers, not publishers, have actually worked on both the HD consoles and the Wii? I can think of the Ace Combat team that made Sky Crawlers on Wii, and Dead Space:Extraction is suppose to be from the same people who made Dead Space. But mostly it's the B or C-teams with low budgets that work on Wii games.

The reason many people think the Wii has bad graphics, are the comparatively bad graphics to other consoles. That's how things work. When someone raises the bar then the things below it get judged by the new level of the bar. When you hit a certain distance below the bar you then become "bad". What you say about raising the bar is true, but when talking about the Wii, most games aren't even matching what could have been accomplished with the Gamecube. The best looking launch Gamecube games are still among the best looking Wii games; double the clockspeeds, triple the amount of ram, triple disc storage capacity and plus whatever small hardware optimizations that were made but no one seems to utilize it. Sure, the Wii will always have 'bad' graphics next to the HD consoles, but it's not at the point where a decent looking Wii game would be considered so ugly that it makes the game unenjoyable (though the unfortunate thing is a very small percentage of Wii games would be deemed 'decent looking').

Yeah, most developers don't use it's full potential (Graphics wise). Super Mario Galaxy looks absolutely breathtaking on some TV's. There are Wii games with great graphics, but most developers figure they can get away with crappy graphics (And it seems to be working for them).

The Wii's power advantage it has over the Gamecube is about 2x more ram and a faster processor. What that means in terms of an actual performance boost is it can play gamecube quality graphics at 480p( 800x600) resolution while the gamecube ran games at 480i(640x480 res). The best looking wii games look how they should which is good looking gamecube games at a slightly higher res.

Look at a game like killzone 2 or gears 2 then look at some outdated Wii game then tell me the Wii doesn't have bad graphics. It's not question, the Wii has the crappiest graphics this generation, games from the psp get ported onto the Wii. The Wii isn't a graphical powerhouse, so don't try and make it seem like one.

[QUOTE="Willy105"][QUOTE="Gangstah-Fresh"]Look at a game like killzone 2 or gears 2 then look at some outdated Wii game then tell me the Wii doesn't have bad graphics. It's not question, the Wii has the crappiest graphics this generation, games from the psp get ported onto the Wii. The Wii isn't a graphical powerhouse, so don't try and make it seem like one. I do that all the time. Gears 2 sure looks detailed. But sorry, the Wii still doesn't have bad graphics.

You can't be serious. The Wii has horrible graphics, crisis core on the psp looks better then anything available for the wii.

The main reason is because it's processor and videocard are no wear comperable to the PS3 and XBOX 360 hardware.

PSP, no, that was a stupid thing to say. Just because the Wii has the worst graphics this gen on consoles, doesn't mean that they are bad.

The jump in power does'nt do anything when it is still just outputing 480p. Sony stated with the PS2 that they did'nt need a lot more power in the PS2 because of the resolution on the tv's. They were'nt far from the truth. The Wii can do a lot of next gen effects but it will still look like a last gen game.

I remember one time I used my old TV on my computer and I played Quake 4. It looked allmost the same on high and low settings.

Not even if they put down more time than "Duke nukem forever" can they make graphic good enough to be compared with Ps3/360, not developers fault hardware for it is crap.

[QUOTE="turtlethetaffer"]graphics twice as good as RE4's. The closest I've seen to this it The Conduit

randomwiiplayer

Lol. The Conduit does not have some of the best graphics on the Wii.

Technical wise, it kinda does. It's best is much better than anything on Wii. It's the art direction that fails.
