It really won't be over because they didn't recall the models with high failure rate. If you have had your 360 repaired, there is a possibility it will occur again.
Maybe it's because I don't visit SW much and maybe it's because I'm pissed at the use of the term, RROD (this applies to the TC as well), but it seems like it's over from where I'm sitting, or at least down to an acceptable level. RROD is just a signal of a problem, not a problem in itself. It can be caused by manufacturing errors creating flaws (totally acceptable by my standards provided the failure rate is less than one percent) , inherent design flaws (unacceptable), or general user stupidity e.g blocking ventilation.
So, exactly what is the problem? Unless the latest model has some terrible design, everyone with the older models will have their 360's break eventually and have warranty cover everything.
I've had one fail on me. RROD. My buddy has gone through 3 now. 2 RROD and 1 E74.
Buddy I am living with now his just failed. E74. I would say it's not really RROD problem anymore. Its a E74 problem now. Which is protected under the warranty now. But having to wait 4-6 weeks kind of sucks.

Yeah, he told us his age, also bashes games like Uncharted 2 and Resistance and has never played them.

I got a Jasper and yesterday I touched it after playing for 6 hours. it wasn't EVEN warm. so they pretty much solved the problem AND of course it can still break, just like any other electronic stuff.

It's never going to be over if Microsoft keeps re-packaging old crap chipsets as new bundles. I doubt the Jaspers are having problems but since old Zephers are still showing up in boxes for sale of course RRoD or E-74s are going to keep showing up...Those crap chips should have been scraped for a loss years ago.
RROD of course isn't over but it's far less of a problem then it used to be especially when every console on the shelves are 360's with the new jasper chips and the chances of it failing are about as great as the PS3 or any other console.
The new 360 models make it less of a problem then before. I heard Sony hasn't made the YLOD go away yet. :D

The ps3 failure rate is only around 10% or less while the 360 is 60%
Don't quote the Game Informer figures as if they are factual, because they represent only a very small subset of the overall userbase. Not to mention, a subset of the userbase that would almost certainly have the absolute highest failure rate of any group that owns a 360 or PS3. That applies to both the Xbox 360 and PS3 figures.
As long as I keep getting a 360 from 2006 with the old chips in it when my current one RROD's, this issue will never go away. Doesn't matter if the new ones don't do this, they don't give you new models for replacements.
