Now there are alot of rumors going around that the PSP2 will be announced in either E3, Gamescom, or TGS. My prediction is that the new handheld will be digital distribution only. Yes I know that the PSP GO was a failure but if Sony improves on it then it could be a success.

Here is how digital distribution could work-

The PSP Go had 16GB to store games, this is a step forward but 16 GB is not enough, the PSP2 should have 32GB or 64GB so that it will store a huge amount of games.

All PSP games have to be on the store, One reson why the PSP go failed at this is because games did not go on the PS store fast enough

In the PS store put in sales for games just like what stores do

Stores really do not like the idea of digital distribution because they will not make any money on games, that is why some stores refused to buy PSP Go's from Sony. So to fix this stores would have these small game boxes( like the old cardboard gameboy game box). Inside these boxes would be a PSN code which will allow you to download that game from the PS Store.

Any other ideas?

Maybe Not SD cards but the Flash cards that Sony makes would be good. They don't take that much space so it will still make it really portable.

Those are some nice ideas. Patapon 2 is actually sold in a regular game box but instead of a umd, there is a download voucher inside. I saw it in a few stores. As for the memory,I think a good starting point would be 32gb. Thats more then enough space for some people. But despite all these speculations and ideas, what Sony really needs to do is keep the price low. No more then $200 is a good price point imo.

To me, most consumers have little or no knowledge of what "digital" gaming is, other than movies on demand and that sort.

I realize digital games are on the horizon, and I have purchased a few, and Steam is a great service.

However, if they want to make profit, have both options available. The average consumer will feel better knowing they have a "tangible" game disc as opposed to doing everything online. Especially if they are casual gamers. Digital services are a nice add on, but they stunt prices. For instance, almost every game on Xbox's "games on demand" I could find else where for WAY cheaper.

this is by far the best idea. I heard wait times downloading games onto your psp go were a huge annoyance. Assuming that Psp2 games will be bigger, better looking and higher res. it would be even WORSE. This would also cut load times which were a massive problem with the psp. On a handheld I just want to play now.. Im not sitting around waiting for games to load, that defeats the whole purpose of the handheld is to distract you short bursts in boring situations

Likewise. Call me old-fashioned, but I really prefer to have a physical game over a licensed download. Plus with the way PSN prices are compared to retail, PSN prices very rarely drop. Persona is about half price if you buy the disc over the download.

It 's still too soon for a DD-only PSP2. In fact, I think it's still too early for a PSP2 in general especially with the new big boss bundle coming out. That makes it obvious to me that Sony still wants to focus on the PSP. I think it would be a much smarter move for Sony to meet the competition half-way. As already mentioned, maybe they could replace the UMD's with flash cards (even though backwards compatability would be great) while maintaining and improving the digital download. Therefore, Sony would not alienate those with poor, or no internet connections at all.

I like to have my games on my shelves at home. But I do like DD but it still took me 5 hours to download Portal from Steam but I think that was their servers because many people were trying to download it since it's free until the 24th.

The right way to do dd is to just have it straight from the get-go as standard.

I mean it was 4.5 years AFTER the PSP launched when they released a system that had absolutely no benefit to pre-existing, or even future customers. Nothing was there to encourage someone to upgrade, and it had less of a libary than the old system.

Had the PSP Go been their next system I'm sure it'd have done great. All new games would have immediately been added to the store, nothing would be missing, and there'd be no devs on the fence about whether or not to ever release a dd version of it.

Of course the pricing was way out of whack too....

The problem of PSP Go DD is fact that PSP platform is not DD-only. If platform will born with DD-only from the begining, people will not have a basis to complain about. If Apple's DD-only model for software success, everything other will

But i support bigger storage idea, supposely PSP2 will have better hardware, this mean bigger games that eat storage.

digital distribution is such a scam. We do we as consumers have to pay the exact same price as someone in a store. You don't get a disc, box or manual and yet we still have to shell out 40 dollars just like buying it in a store. They could have sold every game for 20 bucks and the pspgo would have done just fine.
