Do you miss Command & Conquer?
The inevitable "EA are assholes" ending.
Don't like calling a company with facless people assholes,
but yeah that's exactly what they are.
What happened to C&C4 and Generals 2 is a fvcking disgrace and it shows the heads of EA have no clue what is going on in the gaming industry and have no clue what (PC) gamers actually want.
Should I waste my time watching this? Is this just another EA bashing sentiment? From what I've read, everybody at Westwood just up and left once EA bought it out. It's not like they had a chance to run it into the ground like people often claim.

Seems like a well put together history of the C&C franchise, haven't watched the video in full but will do so tonight :)
I only ever played the original C&C game when it was ported to the Sega Saturn. I loved the game that i played the bad side 4 times just so i could blow up the 4 options at the end.
Eh, I'd attribute the decline of C&C to run in parallel to the changing perception of traditional base driven RTS games. It just refused to adapt as a franchise in a way that other RTS studios had. Blizzard doing it the earliest, Relic later. SupCom embraced it and had the flexible macro balance figured out. CA didnt have to do anything because of how that game was structured on the turn based campaign map. The concept of World in Conflict and Sins of a Solar Empire are reflective of this as well with how those games arent heavy on optimizing build orders or APMing the shit out of your opponent before they can get going.
The guys proceeded to form their own studio. Made some okish games, had a cancelled one, several medicore ones and shallow 'old school PC RTS' ones with the 8-bit armies/invaders titles that nobody bought. They had a game released at the end of 2016. It bombed.
C&C was pretty much done and had nowhere to go. Any continuation of it in some form to bring it to some relevance would have been met with criticism. You can make an RTS like Grey Goo and Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak, but the majority of the PC gaming demographic just wont give a crap about the game.
Sad video.
Lolol... The Fake dramatics....
:P
lol at that gif. Real quality thespian right there. Thanks for posting XD.

I'm not 100% sure that it's all EA , yes they have a reputation for crunching and their nasty deadlines but we need to consider another fact which is the decline of classic RTS games , they are being replaced with MOBA which is more "Accessible" .... DOW3 is a good example of that
C&C3 and Kane's Wrath were great fun on the X360. Kane's Wrath had perfect controls with a controller, its a shame no other games have come out that use it. Red alert was fun too, but it's controller layout way a step back from Kane's Wrath imo.
Games aren't important enough for me to consider getting emotional about. If I was, I would have quit gaming a long time ago. If one genre suddenly has slim pickings, move on to other genres.
If I have to lament the demise of a publisher/developer, it would be Microprose because I loved so many of its games.
As for Westwood, I can always relive the past with the C&C and Red Alert compilation package from Origin.
I heard that CnC 2 Tiberian Sun was gone into a development Hell back in the day that nearly bankrupted Westwood.(which is the main reason that EA bought them) is it True ?

Much like what just happened with Relic.
Sega is their EA and Dawn of War 3 is their Command and Conquer 4.
Damn, I really miss command and conquer.
The complete package (original game + expansion) is only $20 in Origin. I think it's worth reliving. ;)
I loved C&C games, but for me, Red Alert 2 Yuri's Revenge was the last one. After that the series lost its magic. Generals, C&C3, Red Alert 3 - all were souless generic rts games. They lacked that kind of trademark Westwood badassery.
I watched this yesterday evening, a really well put together video.
And the video goes over all the stuff that every C&C game added or tried to add.
You can see that Red Alert 3 was at least a decent RTS but that from that point on EA really had no clue anymore what they were doing. And were just following trends, without understanding what made other games popular to start with.
Red Alert 3: every mission was co-op based. Why ?
Command And Conquer 4: the game dropped RTS and base building in favor of being RTT. Why ?
Command and Conquer Generals (F2P): much to gamers discontent, the game dropped a singleplayer and became free to play. Why ?
The last command and conquer game ever was a mobile game that had nothing to do with Command and Conquer... WHY ????
Definitely not that emotional, although a bit nostalgic. It was an interesting video, none the less.
Huh. I didn't know Grey Goo was made by former members of Westwood. I guess I'll be buying that one soon.

The game has very good production values. CGI cutscenes are awesome.
Had the collection set on Windows XP and played the hell out of Generals: Zero Hour.
"Ow ow, I will work!"
