So Streets of Rage 2 was released today on XBLA. It includes online play and only costs $5. The majority of the sheep (judging from the Wii board) don't seem to care about online play at all. For reasons beyond comprehension, they seem to much rather pay $8 and do without online play. In fact, it seems as if any hint, suggestions or mention of adding online multiplayer to VC games is considered taboo and trolling. :?

Anyone here care to explain this phenomenon?

All the VC games are too overpriced. For me i wouldnt want them to change the classics too much, but like the additions you mentioned (online, co-op) that actually benefit the game, its a great addition.

the only real way to play it is with a genesis controller. With a 360 controller it just doesnt feel right, and im not happy how xbl messes with the games, just leave it as it is.

I don't think they would have to change the code or anything either for the games. It seems like an update to the emulator would do the trick. It's just puzzling how many of the sheep in that forum don't see VC games as overpriced.

I dont know how they dont see it either. I have two VC games, but only because i wanted the internet browser. I had points left, so i bought Super Mario Bros for 5 bucks, and Donkey Kong Country for 8. Rip Off.

From what I've seen, they go on and on with their flawed perception that since the actual carts are more expensive the ROM price is right. But they don't seem to grasp that it's not the actual cart they're getting with their money, just the ROM and that's not expensive at all.

But if this isn't clear enough proof for them of the rip-off of VC costs, I don't think they'll ever acknowledge it.

It depends. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I guess the overhaul that they gave PoP worked out pretty well.

xbla has diffrent prices ... and vc games dont cost much .... get a life

$5+ For a game you can get on the computer for free, and with nothing new added to it that could help the game benefit (such as online, co-op) is a rip off.

No surprise. Nintendo milks their customers far more than M$ or Sony. I just wish I hadn't have bought SOR2 on the Wii virtual console a while back... :( silly me.

I wonder what the breakdown of the pricing structure is... Like who's getting how much? And how is MS able to get away with charging a whole $3 less? I don't know, maybe they somehow fund it with the XBL subscriptions they get from users.

It seemed like a good idea at the time. I was pretty tempted to purchase it on the VC myself when it was released. I remember how they flamed me there when I suggested adding an online component to the emulation. :?

I agree the VC games should be cheaper but i disagree that you should mess around with the classics by adding stuff to them. For those that also go on about ROM's and such well i could download alot of games for free on my pc, i guess paying the store price would be classed as too much if i can get it illegally for free right?.

If there's a game I can find on both, I'm probably going with the XBLA edition because usually it's cheaper with stuff added which is always nice. What makes VC so great is the fact that people can get all the Nintendo classics. I don't think they are overpriced considering you might not be able to buy the full game. The fact that your complaining about a 3 dollar difference is ludicrous. The people who like to bash the VC price are either very cheap and don't like to dish out a maximum of 10 dollars, when an XBLA game can also get up to about 10 dollars, or they are fanboys. Also, saying that the VC version is better is just fanboyism and you know that. It's obvious the XBLA version is superior.

Well the problem is that there aren't many games between the two platforms that be compared directly to one-another. There's Sonic the Hedgehog ($5 on XBLA vs $8 on VC) but that was a single-player only game, though the XBLA version does add achievements and leaderboards (somewhat useless I admit). Sonic the Hedgehog 2 will be released sooner or later (still TBA) and it'll run XBLA users $5 vs $8 on the VC and it too will incorporate online muliplayer.

depands what sega wants ;) as i dont think nintendo controls its prices... they just set the standard as for xbla isnt it up to the publisher to do it? or microsfot... about the leader board etc... i thought nintendo did that with mp3 so i dont think it is as useless..

That's the thing though. I think Nintendo could add online functionality to whatever emulation program they're using and leave the ROMs untouched. So there would be no 'messing around with the classics.' This is the same kind response that I get from the Wii boards. I'm stressing that it'll be an option and that the original games will remain untouched. The XBand and current emulators can do this too with not too many problems.

I doubt SEGA or any other VC publisher sets the prices, Nintendo does.

You've got a point. Console and arcade emulators on PC tend to have online support(most of them using this "Kaillera" system). So why shouldn't Wii VC games have it in some form? In any case, I think VC titles are overpriced for what you get in their current state. (However, I am considering a purchase of Paper Mario...if there are no emulation issues. Maybe I'm better off getting an N64 copy to ensure that it runs properly.)

The Virtual Console has over 100 games on it, by the end of this generation it'll have like 600 games or so. Of course the few that also appear on Xbox Live are going to be better on Xbox Live then just the original games that appear on Virtual Console, but the Virtual Console is still the better avenue for retro gaming because it just has way more classics on it. I would trade my 360's live arcade for a 360 version of the Virtual console and this is coming from someone who has both systems.

Or not all sheep own a 360. Unlike you, they won't run out to buy a 360 to play Streets of Rage 2.
