How come people act like only the Wii is aimed at casuals? 360 and PS3 are also aimed at casuals - the SHOOTER CASUALS. You know the ones I'm talking about: the annoying people who buy or ask for a 360 or PS3 so they can play shooters, shooters, and more shooters, the people who think they're "h4rdc0re becuz I play geers uf war all dai lol"
I've got news for you: if all you do is play shooters like Gears and COD - YOU ARE A CASUAL. YOU ARE NOT HARDCORE. Just like those Wii casuals who play shovelware mini-games all day long. Just like the sports casuals who bought a PS2 just so they could play the new Madden each year and NOTHING ELSE. Shooter casuals are ruining PS3 and 360. All the devs want to make these days are "gritty and dark, realistic" shooters. Variety and original ideas are dying out, because all you people want to do is play a 3-hour shooter campaign and then go online and play boring, repetitive multi-player. "zomg wow, I can't wait to play Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare 2 World At War Again, where I fight the same campaign in the same gritty, 'dark' environments, then I go online and just play deathmatch over and over and over till the next sequel comes out, then I start the whole thing over again!"
This is the reason this generation will never be better than the PS2-XB-GC era: variety. Last-gen had much better variety than this one - even 3D platformers were just as huge as they were in the '90s, but they're virtually dead now. This gen started very promising, but after Gears came out, that's when we got screwed. Bunch of meathead soldiers killing aliens in dark environments and soldiers fighting in blown-up cities. Oh wow, I just described every big console shooter released in the past two years.
Am I the only one who notices this? I feel like I'm taking crazy pills!
