After Halo 3 hits, it will no doubt sell out enormously, maybe even just about going beyond the Wii.

Of course the Wii is hitting casuals and selling out like hotcakes, and it will continue its height of gaming popularity. Problem is that casuals may not be willing to put 50$ for each game. I'm not sure how good the attach rate is, but I'm pretty sure 360 has that beat, but don't quote me on that.

So we're looking at a Spartan Effect here, a one hit kill that supposedly MS will claim victory for the end. However, they're right, it will end, for them. Unless there's a Halo 4 and Gears of War 2 planned, there are going to be some big problems with the 360. MS relies too much on Spartan arms, and overall its like the Mario of Nintendo.

Now we're on to the Wii, Nintendo's new prized system. It's definitely on a good route, going on to sell out tons of systems, giving it one of the best potentials for the most variety in games. With games such as Mario Galaxy and SSBB. It could be possible for them to at least get a good amount to Halo 3. That is unless those two games turn out to be huge quality games. But I doubt that.

Here comes the dark horse, the always underdog, don't deny it they always are, Sony and their Playstation 3. There aren't many systems sold thanks to the high price. However, there is something interesting. PS3 has a pretty big attach rate. Something around 1/3 of PS3 gamers have Resistence, if I'm not mistake, which is pretty damn huge.

Now, Sony actually has the best chance to turn the tides in their favor thanks to the Spartan Effect.

Halo will be huge, but Sony will try to game flood the holiday season. Heavenly Sword, MGS4, Rachet and Clank, Warhawk. The variety of games may entice gamers, maybe even a price drop to put smiles on peoples faces. We can't deny that there still that 120 million people (assuming) that bought and more are buying PS2. There is no doubt that this is a huge amount of fanbase that won't fizzle quickly. It is possible that if E3 goes right, Killzone actually is a game (ha ha), and they straighten up, they might actually take some wind away from Halo 3.

With the combined forces of the Wii and PS3, it might be hard for 360 to reach anyone else with their other games this holiday. It's all about Halo for the 360.

Halo is a big game, but if you think it will single-handedly bury every other game and console out there, you're reaching. Next, how is Sony "always the underdog"? I think PS1 and PS2 clearly dominating the competition with relatively under-powered machines would beg to differ. Nintendo is the underdog, if anyone is.

In not one way has sony every been the underdog. maybe the hated favorite, but never the underdog. well they were the first time around, but not when both PS2 and PS3 were launched. They definantly werent the underdogs.Nintendo is the underdog.

Anyway there is no Halo on 360 now, and many 360 owners have bought other good games. And its not like 360 doesnt have a diverse library right now, or coming up. 360 will have more than Halo 3 when Halo comes out, and after it comes out.
Second, whats so doubtful of mario galaxy and smashbros being AAA games. Both are good franchises, hyped games for the wii, have major improvements from previous games. they both could end up being really good games.
The 360 could stay around for the longhaul, the library is really good.

No pimps at sea is what the non-believers call a "joke game" from Bungie, like World of Starcraft from Blizzard. It started up after the release of Halo CE and is regularily brought up in april fools jokes to confuse those who don't believe in its awesomeness.

I'm a big Sony/Nintendo fan.

There's no denying that Halo will have an impact.

That game has sold tons just at release, it'll be insane.

The only one that has a chance to do anything is Sony and the possibility they will deliver with Home and Killzone and MGS4. All they need is for Killzone to be real and playable and fufill those promises to have a chance.

Sony is the underdog because every gen they are laughed at and put down by the media/fanboys, for stupid reasons. It happens every gen. Even the Dreamcast fanboys were a lot worse than lemmings. I remember, they were horrible gamers, that made up anything to make Ps2 look bad. We all know how that ended.

smg, ssbb, and mp3 are all killer apps.  The three combined are as good as any lineup leading up to the holidays.  It's not like those are the only wii games coming out in that time.  You can argue otherwise but its really a matter of taste.  So the hype for the wii will ultimately prevail.

There are 7 other spartans than John(Master Chief) that are still alive(even after the Halo2) , Bungie can always make another series based off of them or something else.

Sure it will have an impact, but it won't be the crushing blow some people are making it out to be. Halo 3 is going to be more of the same. That's not a bad thing, but its not going to have some new amazing feature that will pull people in who didn't care about the first 2. The 360 price tag is less than the 3's, but its still steep for people to pick up for just one game. I like shooters and online console gaming enough that it might tip me over the edge and get me to finally buy a Box, but I'm a pretty HC gamer and even I need a push. Halo will kick ass like it kicked ass before, but I doubt it will just end the whole console war with one haymaker. I'm sure GTA will sell more than Halo 3, especially since its on both platforms now.

There are 7 other spartans than John(Master Chief) that are still alive(even after the Halo2) , Bungie can always make another series based off of them or something else.Fruity_Fantasy

Ah, a non RTS (Halo Wars) based on the Fall of Reach storyline would make my day.

smg, ssbb, and mp3 are all killer apps.  The three combined are as good as any lineup leading up to the holidays.  It's not like those are the only wii games coming out in that time.  You can argue otherwise but its really a matter of taste.  So the hype for the wii will ultimately prevail.

I think those may be the only Wii games that matter this holiday season

Those would be the only games that matter to everyone.  There are games coming that are potential excite trucks: a lot of people like them a lot, a lot dont.  I'm thinking wiimusic, project HAMMER, one piece adventure, NiGHTs2, Alien Syndrome, Resident Evil4 remake, Manhunt 2, mySims, Scarface, Forever blue, Boogie, others.  (I realize some of those probably wont release until after 2007, but at this point its not clear which ones).

My take on the Spartan Effect:

Everyone knows that SONY owns Sparta... God of War III is going to be huge, its going to make Kratos a house-hold name... Then Kratos is going to kill Miyamoto, Bill Gates and that British guy that does alot of PR for SONY... He will use there blood to form a new videogame system called the Kratos 300 (i hope you get the movie reference lol)... Everyone will buy this system or face anhilation at the hands of Kratos... then BAM Miyamoto Bill Gates and British guy are back to life and have somehow become Gods (The plot twist will have to wait for GOW4)... Then Kratos will set out to smite them - and yeah, thats the premise for God of War 4: The Effects of the Spartans

I hope there will be some third party action (of the variety that doesn't suck) this holiday season for Nintendo.  I need something to play on teh Wii  !

The Effect has nothing to do with history. But if we put it that way, then fine. Halo 3 will succumb to the Spartan Effectn and 360 will ultimately fail to a higher console. Thanks.

No just no.

After Halo 3 there still is Halo Wars and Peter Jackson's Halo Project. And whos to say Bungie can't make outstanding games outside the Halo universe (or a spin off in the Halo universe)?

Gears of War is planned as a trilogy.

Mass Effect is planned as a trilogy.

Too Human is planned as a trilogy.

Thats pretty solid. Then they have Fable 2, Alan Wake, Bioshock, etc. Â
